the range of 30 to 50 words.
5. Section C consists of 3 Short Answer type questions carrying 03 marks each. Answers to these questions
should be in the range of 50 to 80 words.
6. Section D consists of 1 Long Answer type question carrying 05 marks. Answer to this question should be in
the range of 80 to 120 words.
7. Section E consists of 1 source-based/case-based units of assessment of 04 marks with sub-parts.
SECTION – A (1x3=3)
1. A ray of light passes from a medium X to another medium Y. No refraction of the light occurs if the
ray of light hits the boundary of medium Y at an angle of:
(a) 0° (b) 45°
(c) 90° (d) 120°
2. An electric iron of resistance 20 ohm takes a current of 5 A. The amount of heat developed in it in 30
seconds will be:
(a) 1.9 x 104 joules (b) 1.7 x 104 joules
(c) 1.5 x 104 joules (d) 1.3 x 104 joules

Following question consist of two statements – Assertion (A) and Reason (R). Answer this question
selecting the appropriate option given below:
(a) Both A and R are true and R is the correct explanation of A.
(b) Both A and R are true but R is not the correct explanation of A.
(c) A is true but R is false.
(d) A is false but R is true.
3. Assertion(A): Hypermetropia is the defect of the eye in which only farther objects are seen.
Reason (R) : Hypermetropia is corrected by using converging lens.
Ans: (b)

SECTION B (2x2=4)
4. State the rule to determine the direction of a:
(a) magnetic field produced around a straight conductor – carrying current.
The Maxwell's right hand thumb rule states that 'When the conductor is held in your right hand, such
that the direction of the thumb points the direction of the current and the curled finger gives the
direction of the magnetic finger.
(b) force experienced by a current carrying straight conductor placed in a magnetic field which is
perpendicular to it.
Fleming’s Left Hand Rule states that if we arrange our thumb, forefinger and middle finger of the
left-hand perpendicular to each other, then the thumb points towards the direction of the force
experienced by the conductor, the forefinger points towards the direction of the magnetic field and the
middle finger points towards the direction of the electric current.

5. An eye has a near point distance of 0.75 m. What sort of lens in spectacles would be needed to reduce
the near point distance to 0.25 m? Also calculate the power of lens required. Is the eye long sighted or
short sighted?

SECTION – C (3x3= 9)

6. A ray of light travelling in air is incident on a rectangular glass block and emerges out into the air
from the opposite face. Draw a labeled ray diagram to show the complete path of this ray of light.
Mark the two points where the refraction of light takes place. What can you say about the final
direction of ray of light?
Ans:

Here, a light ray changes its direction or refracts at point A when it travels from air to glass. The ray
changes its direction again at point B when it travels from glass to air.
The final direction of the light ray, i.e., BX willl be parallel to the direction OAY in which it enters
the glass block.
7. (a) Of what substance is the fuse wire made? Why?
Fuse wire is made up of tin-plated
plated copper wire because of its low melting point.
(b) Distinguish between the terms ‘overloading’ and ‘short-circuiting’
circuiting’ as used in domestic circuits.
Short circuiting - When neutral and live wire come in direct contact. Overloading - When too
many appliances are connected to a single socket drawing much more current or power than
permissible.
(c) What current is taken by a 3 kW electric geyser working on 240 V mains?

8. The circuit diagram given below shows the combination of three resistors R1, R2 and R3. Find:

(i) total resistance of the circuit.

(ii) total current flowing in the circuit.
(iii) the potential difference across R1.
SECTION – D (5x1=5)

9. (a) An object 3 cm high is placed 24 cm from a convex lens of focal length 8 cm. Find by
calculations, the position , height and nature of the image.
(b) If the object is moved to a point only 3 cm away from the lens, what is the new position, height
and nature of the image?
Ans: (a)

(b)

SECTION – E (4x1=4)

10. The relationship between potential difference and current was first established by George Simon
Ohm called Ohm's law. According to this law, the current through a metallic conductor is
proportional to the potential difference applied between its ends, provided the temperature remain
constant i.e. I ∝ V or V = IR; where R is constant for the conductor and it is called resistance of the
conductor. Although Ohm's law has been found valid over a large class of materials, there do exist
materials and devices used in electric circuits where the proportionality of V and I does not hold.
(i) If both the potential difference and the resistance in a circuit are doubled, then
(a) current remains same (b) current is doubled
(c) current is halved (d) current is quadrupled
(ii) For a conductor, the graph between V and I is there. Which one is the correct?

(b)
(a)

(c) (d)
(iii) The slope of V - I graph (V on x-axis and I on y-axis) gives
(a) resistance (b) reciprocal of resistance
(c) charge (d) reciprocal of charge.
(iv) When battery of 9 V is connected across a conductor and the current flows is 0.1 A, the
resistance is
(a) 9 Ω (b) 0.9 Ω
(c) 90 Ω (d) 900 Ω

OR

(v) By increasing the voltage across a conductor, the

(a) current will decrease (b) resistance will increase
(c) current will increase (d) resistance will decrease.
