INTRODUCTION

Full wave rectifier is a device which is used to rectify

all the alternating current (AC) components in an
alternating supply and make it pure direct current
(DC). The two alternating halves of alternating
current are rectified in full wave rectifier. Consist of a
step-down transformer, 2 PN-Junction diodes, load
resistor where output voltage is observed. It is
commonly used in Charger circuits, mobile phones,
etc.

5
AIM

To construct a full wave rectifier and show that

the alternating current (AC) is rectified into a
Direct Current (DC).

6
APPRATUS

 Connecting wire
 Plug
 Single lead wires- 1m
 Circuit Board
 Transformer (220v – 6v)
 Capacitor
 Resistor- 1Ω
 P-N Junction diodes
 LED bulb
 Tape
 Soldering tool
 Cutter
 Sand paper

7
CIRCUIT DIAGRAM

Connections are done as in the circuit. The AC supply is given to

both the input wires of the transformer and the two ends of the
secondary coil is given to the P side of the two diodes D1 & D2 and
the N side of diodes are twined and then connected to one end of
capacitor and the other end to centre tap lead and to the resistor.
Further other end of diode and capacitor is connected to another
end of resistor. Connect 2 leads on both ends of resistor to measure
the output and this is connected to +ve and -ve terminal of the LED
bulb.

8
WORKING

During the +ve half of the input AC the upper

P-N junction diode is forward biased and the lower
junction diode is reverse biased. The forward current
flow on account of majority carrier of upper P-N
junction diode.

During the -ve half cycle of AC the upper P-N

junction diode is reverse biased and lower junction
diode is forward biased.

The Forward current flow on account of majority

carrier of lower P-N junction diode.

We observe the current flow through resistor in the

same direction as in +ve half. Hence the wave due to
repeating the whole process is unidirectional,
pulsative and full wave.
