Abstract:

This study delves into the pivotal role of parking facilities in the
highway transportation system, recognizing the indispensable
function they serve for vehicles traveling on highways. The
escalating demand for parking, driven by both brief stops and
extended durations, poses a significant challenge, particularly in
urban areas functioning as personal feeder services. The
imperative for sufficient parking bays, notably in densely populated
regions like capitals, becomes crucial to alleviate street congestion
and maintain a commendable level of service (LOS). The surge in
automobile use exacerbates the challenge of limited space in
urban settings, amplifying the need for parking spaces, particularly
in Central Business Districts (CBDs). This spatial constraint not
only influences transportation mode choices but also yields
substantial economic consequences.Drawing inspiration from
Mahmood K. Al-Obaidi et al.'s study on parking performance in
Baghdad, this research extends to Erbil city. Acknowledging the
vital role of parking in enhancing urban livability, the primary
objective is to identify and address the reasons behind parking
challenges in Erbil. By exploring effective strategies for
improvement, the aim is to propose simple and practical solutions,
contributing to a more comfortable and enjoyable living
environment in Erbil. Subsequent chapters will unravel the
intricacies of parking congestion in Erbil, delving into the unique
aspects of the city's parking landscape. This project is driven by a
commitment to provide accessible solutions, ensuring a positive
impact on the daily experiences of both residents and visitors. Stay
tuned for updates on the journey toward making parking in Erbil
more efficient and the city more comfortable for everyone.

Introduction

The crucial role played by parking facilities in the highway

transportation system is evident, providing a necessary aspect for
vehicles traversing highways. Whether for a brief or extended
duration, parking is imperative, with heightened demand,
particularly in urban areas acting as personal feeder services. The
necessity for ample parking bays, especially in densely populated
regions like capitals, becomes paramount to alleviate street
congestion and maintain a desirable level of service (LOS). The
challenge of limited space in urban settings, exacerbated by the
surge in automobile use, intensifies the demand for parking
spaces, notably in Central Business Districts (CBDs). This spatial
constraint exerts far-reaching effects, influencing transportation
mode choices and yielding substantial economic consequences.
The escalating vehicle population compounds the parking
predicament, necessitating a systematic examination of parking
characteristics, demand, and regulatory measures for effective
vehicle control. The performance assessment of off-street parking
facilities in Baghdad is the focus of this study, scrutinizing factors
impacting their supply (Adapted from Mahmood K. Al-Obaidi et. al.,
"Analysis of Parking Performance of Public Off-Street Parks in
Baghdad City").

Addressing this challenge is imperative for enhancing the livability

of our city. This research aims to identify the reasons behind
parking issues in Erbil and explore effective strategies for
improvement. The goal is to uncover simple and practical ways to
enhance parking efficiency, contributing to a more comfortable and
enjoyable living environment in Erbil. Adapted from a study by
Mahmood K. Al-Obaidi and team, this research endeavors to
tackle a similar challenge in Erbil city. The focus extends beyond
academic pursuits, aiming to genuinely improve parking conditions
for all in Erbil.

Consider the challenge of finding a suitable parking spot in Erbil.

Inspired by Al-Obaidi's work in Baghdad, an exploration into the
reasons behind parking difficulties in Erbil is underway, seeking
practical solutions to enhance the current situation. This research
transcends theory, addressing the quest to streamline daily lives in
Erbil. Similar to the study in Baghdad illustrating the correlation
between more cars and increased parking demand, Erbil faces a
comparable scenario. Understanding the factors contributing to
parking challenges in Erbil is crucial. The plan is straightforward –
not merely identifying problems but uncovering real, feasible
solutions. Leveraging insights from Al-Obaidi's work, the aim is to
reveal the unique aspects of Erbil's parking scene and propose
uncomplicated measures for improvement. Join this journey as
Erbil's parking story unfolds, with the aim of creating a more
efficient and comfortable city for all. Stay tuned for updates on the
