MTCC3060: INTRODUCTION TO SURVEYING AND HYDRAULICS

FLUID LAB 1 – VENTURI METER

COVER PAGE (One cover page for the whole report)

 Module code and name: MTCC3060 Introduction to Surveying and Hydraulics.

 Title: Hydraulics Report.
 Student name: John Smith.
 Student ID: 123456.

TABLE OF CONTENTS (For all lab activities)

MAIN HEADING: Lab 1 Venturi Meter

INTRODUCTION (6 MARKS)

Aim

 State the objective of the Venturi Meter experiment. (1 or 2 sentences)

Theory

 Explain what is a venture meter and its purpose. You need to use AT LEAST 2 references for
this part. Also, you should use a diagram or figure to help your explanation (again, you must
give the reference underneath the diagram or figure).
 Explain the theoretical equation which is used to calculate flow in a venturi meter, i.e. you
need to define each of the variables in the equation:
2𝑔𝐻
𝑄 = 𝐶𝐷 𝐴2
√ 𝐴 2
[1 − (𝐴2 ) ]
1

 Approximately 150 words.

Procedure

 You should take a photo of the full hydraulic bench and label all the relevant parts as
instructed in the laboratory.
 You need to listen carefully to the Lab Technician who will clearly instruct you on how to
conduct the experiment. Write the procedure in your own words, step-by-step.

DISCUSSION (6 MARKS)

 Compare the experimental and theoretical results of the flow rate (Q) and comment on the
closeness.
 Discuss any assumptions or errors in the experiment that may have affected the results.
 Approximately 100 words.
