*Post-Independence Development*
After gaining independence in 1947, India made efforts to
expand healthcare access. The Bhore Committee Report (1946)
laid the foundation for India’s healthcare system, advocating for
a comprehensive healthcare infrastructure, primary healthcare,
and public health measures.
The establishment of the Central Government Health Scheme
(CGHS) in 1954 aimed to provide healthcare to government
employees. Additionally, the launch of the National Rural Health
Mission (NRHM) in 2005 focused on strengthening rural
healthcare infrastructure and services.
