Olympic Games
History
The first World Championship took place in Germany in 1938, involving four teams
from Europe who competed in a round robin stage to find a winner. It wouldn't be until sixteen
years later where the second World Championship was held in the country of Sweden.
Throughout their history, the World Championships has been dominated by European teams,
with no medals being won by non-European countries until 2015, by Qatar. Over the years, the
organization of the World Championships has changed. Initially, there were group games in
both the preliminary and main rounds, but more recently a knockout system has been applied
after the preliminary round.

History
The IHF World Women's Handball Championship has been organized by the International
Handball Federation since 1957.
Only 9 teams participated in the first championship, this number grew to the present 24 which
was introduced in 1997. In 1977 a B tournament was introduced and later in 1986 a C-
tournament which served as qualification for the real championship or A-tournament. The B
and C tournament qualifications were replaced by the present qualification system in
1993. From 1993 it has been held every other year, between 1978 and 1990 it was held every
fourth alternating with the Olympic tournament (introduced for women handball in 1976), and
before that it was held more irregularly. The first five tournaments were held in the summer or
early fall whereas the rest has been held in November or December

Olympic Games
History
Handball at the Summer Olympics refers to two different sports. Field handball was introduced
for men at the 1936 Summer Olympics in Berlin, but dropped after that. At the 1952 Olympics,
field handball was a demonstration sport. (Indoor) handball was introduced for men at
the 1972 Summer Olympics, also on German territory. Women's handball competition was
introduced at the 1976 Summer Olympics in Montreal.
For a country to participate in the Olympics, it must have a National Olympic Committee (NOC)
approved by the International Olympic Committee (IOC). Currently, there are 206 NOCs,
although the Kuwait Olympic Committee was suspended in October 2015.

MOST IMPORTANT TEAM IN SPAIN
History
The handball section of Futbol Club Barcelona was founded on 29 November 1942 during
the presidency of Enrique Piñeyro. In the beginning handball was played with eleven
players per team and did not have a specialized field to play. They used football fields until
the late 50's, when they started to play, as in actual games, with seven players and a
covered field.
In the early stages, competitions were dominated by other teams like Atlético de
Madrid and Granollers, breaking their domination few times. Things changed radically with
the arrival of one of the best coaches in handball history, Valero Rivera. With him, the team
became virtually unbeatable in Spain and in Europe, winning a record of 62 trophies under
his rule, including 5 consecutive European Cups.
In the summer of 2013, the Barça handball team, conducted by the head coach Xavi
Pascual, won the Super Globe trophy, the only trophy that was still missing from the clubs
trophy cabinet.
FC Barcelona’s handball team closed out the 2013/14 Liga Asobal with a record-breaking
winning run. Barça made history this season when they completed their Liga Asobal
without dropping any points from all 30 match days.
FC Barcelona successfully defended its IHF Super Globe title in 2014, marking the first
time a team has won back-to-back titles since the most prestigious club handball event has
been hosted annually in the Qatari capital Doha.
Again, FC Barcelona handball team ended the 2014/2015 Liga Asobal season unbeaten for
the second consecutive year.
FC Barcelona handball team won the seven titles disputed the 2014/2015 season,
something which had not happened since the 1999/2000 season with Valero Rivera's
Dream Team.
In 2017 FC Barcelona handball was again champion of the IHF’s Super Globe after beating
the German team Füchse Berlin.
In 2018 won again four Super Globe trophy. In a repeat of last year the team of head coach
Xavi Pascual won the IHF Super Globe Final against Füchse Berlin, this time by a five-goal
difference,29:24
