How to Use This Book

T
his is the month to challenge yourself to stay in praise and
praise your way into the new year. So, this is a 31-day
praise guide to keep you in the spirit of praise. Bear in
mind that this PDF newsletter copy has only ten days. Get the
complete praise guide on Amazon and join us as we praise God
into the year, 2024, the year of healing and restoration.

1. 31 Days of Gratitude Challenge – Praise Your Way Out

2. YADAH! Win Your Battles With Prophetic Praise Declarations

3. Praise Warfare: Includes A 5-Day YouTube Praise Devotional.

The teachings, instructions, and prayers in these manuals will

provoke you to praise God like never before, and all the
mountains before you will be moved.

There are two exercises recommended in this book, and they are:

 Only praise God for the next thirty-one days. Reduce

emphasis on your personal requests and needs…

 And then pray for others.

1. Every day, write out reasons to give praise. If you

bought the paperback version of this book, then at the end of
each chapter, there is a space to do that. The reasons written
today should be different from the ones written the next day. The
9
Gratitude Challenge – Daniel C. Okpara

idea is for you to count back after thirty-one days and see the
numerous blessings for which you should be grateful every day.

2. Write out the names of people you would be praying and

interceding for each day.

3. Wake up every night and spend at least thirty-one

minutes, praising God and praying for others. You can spend
more time than that in God’s presence, but don’t spend less. And
you can also pray at other times during the day, but the emphasis
is on: only praise, and pray for others; and of course, read and
listen to the word.

Something good is on your way.

10
Gratitude Challenge – Daniel C. Okpara

THE GRATITUDE DEAL

Praise God for thirty-one minutes every day for thirty-one days?

Don’t pray for your personal needs for the next thirty-one days.
Just wake up every night and praise God for thirty-one
minutes, and do it nonstop for the next thirty-one days.

Can you try to avoid worrying about the situations in your life
right now, no matter how threatening they seem, and
intentionally praise God every night for thirty-one days?

Let’s enter into His praise with praise and move on into the year
with praise. As you embark on this praise retreat, expect a
supernatural encounter.

11
Gratitude Challenge – Daniel C. Okpara

Declaration of Commitment
I am called to praise and worship God, and I will do that, no
matter what

I will not depend on my feelings because my feelings change.

But the WORD remains the same.

I declare my love to the Father, the Son, and the Holy Spirit. I
will continuously declare my praise by action, in the next
thirty-one days, and all the days of my life.

I chose praise over worry and complaining this day, this

month, and this year, in Jesus name.

As I praise God, I receive strength, wisdom, and divine

direction for any situation in my life right now, for the Joy of
the LORD is my strength, in Jesus name.

Gratitude Challenge – Daniel C. Okpara

Introduction
Why this Gratitude Challenge?

Initially, we began the praise (gratitude challenge) in February

2018. We had done our ministry’s 21-day fasting and prayers for
the New Year, and I needed to come up with the next theme for
February. I began to think, “What’s the best theme to focus on
after a prolonged season of waiting on the Lord?” In the course
of that search, the Lord inspired my heart and said, “Praise God,
and pray for others.”

This has eventually become a convention for us. Instead of

moving on to our regular programs after waiting on the Lord
every January, we dedicate the next month in praise and
intercession for others.

We spend the entire month of February, praising God and

listening to His direction through praise and worship. We do not
pray for our personal needs; instead, we praise and then pray for
others.

We still do that, but over the past several months, God began to
show me that we shouldn’t just do this once a year. It should be
something we do now and then. After all, praise is the
completeness of prayer.

13
Gratitude Challenge – Daniel C. Okpara

So we added this practice as our norm every December as well.

We do what we call praise your way out – a 31-day intensive
praise that leads us into the New Year.

Since we began this practise, we’ve received amazing

testimonies, divine interventions, and mysterious encounters,
both from our members and from our readers. You’ll read a few
of the testimonies in day one below.

I published the first praise guide in 2018, titled, 28 Days of

Praise Challenge. It’s still available with that title on Amazon.
However, as time progressed, it became necessary to revise and
update the book for two reasons. First, to add new topics, and
second, to expand the number of days covered from twenty-eight
to thirty-one so that our December Praise Your Way Out
program can be included in it as well.

So I set out to revise the book in May 2020. As you know, the
year 2020 will go down in history as one of the most remarkable
years in human history. It’s a year that many things happened
and the story will continue to be told for hundreds of years to
come. We will never forget in a hurry things like the COVID-19,
the many deaths, the global lockdowns, the vaccine and 5G
theories, the anti-racism protests, and the many other
worldwide, nations-shaking challenges.

While revising the book, my mind began to converse with itself:

“Is gratitude still a possibility this year?”

14
Gratitude Challenge – Daniel C. Okpara

And in response, I said, “Why not?”

Then an inspirational thought struck me: “Gratitude in the face

of trials is the highest form of prayer.”

That must have come from the deepest part of me or from the
Holy Spirit because I didn’t pre-arrange or see that anywhere
before saying it. There and then I knew in my spirit that even
though the year has been pretty fantastic, we can still praise God.
Immediately, I knew what I would be teaching and asking our
church and readers to do in our next month’s prophetic focus.

This thirty-one-day gratitude challenge is a guide to help you

unleash the power of gratitude and praying for others. Yes, we’re
doing this program in June, but you can use this guide anytime
to challenge yourself towards appreciation, praise and petition
for others. It doesn’t matter when you’re reading this book, what
matters is that you pause for a moment, fold your personal needs
and petitions, and keep them in the shelve, and come before God
in praise for thirty-one days.

Challenge yourself to praise and pray for others in the next

thirty-one days and unleash God’s power in every area of your
life. Don’t forget to send me your testimony, because something
good is on your way.

DECLARE

Psalm 145

O LORD, with gratitude and submissive wonder, I will bless

Your name forever and ever.

Every day, I will bless You and lovingly praise You; Yes, with
awe-inspired reverence, I will worship Your name forever.

Great is the Lord, and greatly to be praised, and His greatness

is so profound, unsearchable, and incomprehensible to man.

My generation shall praise Your works to another, and shall

declare Your mighty and remarkable acts.

On the glorious splendor of Your majesty and on Your

wonderful works, I will meditate.

I will speak of the power of Your awesome acts, and with

gratitude, and I will tell of Your greatness. They will overflow
like a fountain, and they speak of Your great and abundant
goodness

I will sing joyfully of Your righteousness.

Lord, You’re gracious and full of compassion, slow to anger

and abounding in lovingkindness. Your tender mercies are
over all the entirety of things created.

16
Gratitude Challenge – Daniel C. Okpara

All Your works give thanks to You and praise You, Lord, and
Your godly ones bless You.

Your kingdom is an everlasting kingdom, and Your dominion

endures throughout all generations.

You, LORD, uphold Your own, and raise all those who are
bowed down.

Those whose eyes look up to You, You provide for them in due
time.

You open Your hand and satisfy the desire of every living
thing.

You are righteous in all Your ways and gracious and kind in
all Your works.

You are near to all who call on You in truth.

You fulfill the desire of Your children, those who fear and
worship You with reverence and obedience are never put to
shame. You hear their cry and save them.

My mouth will continually speak the praise of the Lord, and all
flesh will bless and gratefully praise Thy holy name forever
and ever, in Jesus name.

Amen.

Day 1: Amazing Divine

Interventions

“Yet you are enthroned as the Holy One; you are the
one Israel praises. In you, our ancestors put their
trust; they trusted, and you delivered them.”

– Psalm 22:3-4

od inhabits the praises of His people. As this scripture

confirms, when we genuinely commit to praise, we
demonstrate the highest level of trust. And when God
sees our unfettered trust in Him, mysterious deliverances and
divine interventions take place.

Below are unsolicited testimonies from a few of our readers and

followers who joined our praise challenge at one time or the
other. I am posting a few here because of space. Their stories are
amazing and prove that God indeed inhabits the praise of His
people. As these stories challenge and inspire you to commit
more to praise and gratitude, your testimony is guaranteed.

God Told Me to Call My Bank

“Pastor, I just want to thank you for your prayer and the weekly
devotionals. I am not working since June 2017, but God has been my
provider. I am truly blessed.

“My husband, who left me with two kids for the past nine years, is now
committing to taking care of us.

“Monday, as I was praising God with all the debt I have, I heard a voice
told me to call my bank. I don’t have any income coming, and now I have
to call my bank. The next day, that same voice told me to call the bank, so
I did.

"I told the banker that I have a bunch of small debt that I have to
consolidate.

"I was paying $500 a month to keep all the bills payment, and the interest
rate are very high, 27.99% – 29.99% for each of the lender.

The banker agreed to consolidate my entire bill at 2.5% for 12 months, and
my bill dropped from $500 to $23.00 a month. The total interest rate I
saved is 88.99% a month to 2.5%. Praise God.

"May God continue to do marvelous things for your ministry. I love the
work you are doing in the life of God’s people.” – Suzette C.

Clothed With the Garment of Peace

“This has been a challenge!!!

“I confess that I found myself making personal prayer requests to the

Lord, and I had to repent and ask for His forgiveness. I told Him I knew I
had to trust that He knew all my needs and that He supplies all my needs.

“When I said this to Him, He said that I was wearing the garment of trust
and that it had a beautiful fragrance to Him, and it is a fragrance that the
world needs to encounter. He also said because I trust Him, I was also
wearing the garment of peace and that the world needs to encounter the
fragrance of peace.

“Daniel, thank you for this challenge and for the growth that this challenge
gives. Your challenge has clothed us with garments that provide a
beautiful fragrance to the Lord and aromas that the world needs to
encounter.

“God bless you richly and continue to use you mightily in Jesus name.
Amen and Amen.” – Sheila

Baptized in the Holy Spirit

“On Sunday the 16th of December, I was dancing, singing, and praising
the Lord. All of a sudden, a powerful feeling overtook my body, a feeling I
never felt before. My feet started moving faster as I danced and sang in the
presence of my living room. After everything came to an end, I finally
realized I received the Holy Ghost.

20
Gratitude Challenge – Daniel C. Okpara

“Praise the Lord! What a beautiful and powerful feeling. My entire body
became as light as a feather. God is at work all the time.

“Thank you for this challenge.” – Latonja P.

I Was at Peace

“The praise challenge helped me tremendously to focus my mind and stay

positive during my divorce. I was able to focus on God during the most
challenging time of my life and had a peace that passes understanding.

“May God bless you, Pastor Daniel.” - Anon

$3,500 Debt Cancelled From My School Fee

“Good day, Man of God.

“As I continue with the praise prayer, I took a bold step and went to see
my busser. I owed 11,500 dollars in school fees and had to pay all that
before getting my transcript. But the Holy Spirit whispered to me to go
with what I have and plead for a reduced amount.

“As soon as I got there, I told him that I have done all I know how to do
for the past one year, but have saved $8,500 and have that on me instead
of $11,500.

“Before going, the Lord gave me a vision of a man receiving a new heart.
So he took one look at me and said, ‘give me what you have, and I will get
in touch with you when your transcript is ready.’ My husband and I could

21

not believe it. But God, who does what no man can do was definitely in
charge. I give him the glory.” - Jemima C.

Relieved from Worry

“I thank you for posting this praise challenge. I was feeling so down and
worried, I don’t know what was going on. After praying and praising God,
I felt so relieved. I also read some chapters in the Bible. I am feeling at
peace with myself. I thank you. I hope and pray that God will continue to
use you and strengthen you. Thank you.” - Sis Omo

He Gave Me Double

“I am a 64-year-old lady. I have had a lot of things go wrong in my life,

money not coming, love not coming, and home not coming. At the
beginning of this year, I had to leave my country to look after two small
grandkids. It’s not easy for my son, as their mom became a drug addict.

“But I have been reading Daniel’s blogs each week, and as much as I was
down, during the praise challenge, I started to pray for other people.” And
one day, I was reading in the Bible that God gave someone a double
blessing so I asked can you give me one as I am your child.

“I went out for the day, and when I came home, I went to get the washing;
when I got the washing off the line. There, hanging on the line was a bag
with a food voucher for one hundred dollars in it. I was so pleased and
thanked Him.

22
Gratitude Challenge – Daniel C. Okpara

“Then I went out to the letterbox, and there, in an envelope, was another
voucher for a hundred dollars. Wow! God is good all the time. All praise
and glory to Him. He did a miracle for me. I asked for one, and He gave
me double. The Bible works. Praise and praying for others works.

“Thank you.” - Marlene H.

Successful Green Card Recipient

“Hello, Pastor Daniel,

“Last year, I sent a prayer request asking for prayers for my son and myself
to be successful in receiving our Green Card to become Permanent
Residents of the United States of America. I also started to follow you
through your blog, and the praise challenge was very interesting,
challenging, but a turning point.

I spent time praising and thanking God for our green cards. Shortly after
that, God answered our prayers. To God be the glory; through your prayers
and guide, we are now Permanent Residents of the USA. May God
continue to bless your ministry and enlarge your territories in Jesus name.

I’m Learning to Praise My Way Out

“God is a good God and worthy of all praise.

I took part in the praise challenge last month and to be honest, I did not
follow with the particular set schedules, but each time I prayed, I was more

23
Gratitude Challenge – Daniel C. Okpara

mindful of praising God rather than making my own personal request,

which has been challenging with my current situation. Keeping in mind
that my God is bigger than my problems I kept on pressing on in praise to
God.

“I was blessed financially through praising God in February after being

out of work for almost a year now. All glory to God.

“My younger sister asked me for some financial assistance recently, and I
was questioning myself why would she ask me for help, and she knows I'm
not working. Anyway, I was in the process of making an application for a
grant, and I said father God if you bless me and I get through I will share
whatever I get with her. God did it again, and I shared with my sister.

God has been so good to me in all aspects of my life. Yes, my life is not
perfect, but I can say that if it had not been for God's grace and mercy,
how much different things would have been. Thank you, sir, for guiding
us to encounter God’s goodness. Now I'm welcoming the month of March
where I will command my blessings in areas of my life that represents
Lazarus to COME FORTH. - Diana T.

My Mother's Healing and Deliverance

“My mum was diagnosed with seizures and came out of the hospital,
confused and not walking. I had come across your books and learned
about praise warfare. And that was what I did. Thank God, today, she is
walking and with a sound mind.

24
Gratitude Challenge – Daniel C. Okpara

“Thanks to the prayers and praise warfare. I know that the Holy Spirit
inspired those books. And I thank God for your life and ministry. - Joyce
A.

Supernatural Provision

“I started my fast late due to network in my home area, and already my

prayers are being answered. Today, I have finished the 21 days fast. Praise
God. I feel better; my spiritual life has grown in ways that astound my
friends and me.

“I had absolutely nothing to give my son when he comes home from

school; he leaves home at 5.30 am and returns 17.00. The whole day he
has nothing to eat until he comes back. I prayed the way I learned from
you, Pastor – Praise and pray.

“I slept in the midday with full knowledge and belief God will answer.
When I woke up, I just checked my bank and praise God, money was put
in. This is not the first time, it is the second time, and I don't know who
sent it. I knelt down, praised, cried and thanked God.

“Thank you for teaching me to pray and praise and helping me to grow
closer to God.” - Caroline B.

The Takeaway

These testimonies and many more not published here points to

one thing: God is good and will never fail. When we commit to a
25
Gratitude Challenge – Daniel C. Okpara

praiseful life, we invoke His power to change our situations

repeatedly.

Whenever you feel you’re standing before a mountain and you

don’t know what to do, turn to praise. Sing, dance, play worship
songs, blow the trumpet; shout His praise and make a joyful
noise. Don’t stop; give yourself to anything that will provoke
gratitude and joy in you. Before you know it, the mountains will
move. Why? Because no mountain can stand when God appears.

As you start and learn from this praise challenge, God will
intervene in the most challenging situations of your life. More
importantly, you’ll discover that this is something you should do
from time to time.

Hallelujah!

Day 2: The Power of Praying

for Others

And the Lord turned the captivity of Job when he

prayed for his friends: also the Lord gave Job twice as
much as he had before. - Job 42:10

ob’s friends (Eliphaz, Bildad, and Zophar) had grieved

Job in their argument and condemnation of him. In doing
that they had also offended God and were exposed to His
punishment. Naturally, Job would have wanted them to be
punished and taste a pint of what he felt.

God had convinced Job in a discussion from a whirlwind that He

must repent of his wrong thoughts to be healed and restored. But
the final step to his deliverance was praying for his friends. By
that, God was demanding complete forgiveness of his friends.
But not just that, Job’s prayer for them would avert God’s
punishment and wrath towards them.

In essence, as Job interceded for his friends, God intervened in

his life.

Let’s look at a few more scriptures:

30
Gratitude Challenge – Daniel C. Okpara

1 Timothy 2:1 - I exhort therefore, that, first of all,

supplications, prayers, intercessions, and giving of thanks, be
made for all men.

James 5:16 - Confess your faults one to another, and pray

one for another, that ye may be healed. The effectual fervent
prayer of a righteous man availeth much.

Ephesians 6:18 - Praying always with all prayer and

supplication in the Spirit, and watching thereunto with all
perseverance and supplication for all saints.

Praying for others is a significant instruction in the New

Testament for Christians. It is not something we should leave for
those in the ministry of intercession. It is a call to every Christian
with attendant blessings attached to it.

Apart from being instructed, it takes our eyes off our own needs
and frees us from the anxiety of thinking and worrying about our
situations. It helps us to see that the world is not about our
conditions only and that others are going through things,
sometimes, much more severe than ours. This realization calms
our minds, humbles us, and restores us to a place of personal
praise and appreciation.

Usually, when people send prayer requests to us, we pray the

prayers in-house. But following this insight, we created the Pray
for Others page on our website. On this page, we display some of

31
Gratitude Challenge – Daniel C. Okpara

the prayer requests we receive daily and plead with members and
visitors to spend time and pray for others.

“As we worry less about our own needs and

begin to spend quality time praying for
others, God’s power begins to manifest
towards our own challenges as well.”

I believe that genuinely praying for others is a powerful way to

have our own needs met by the power of God.

What Happens When We Pray for Others?

And from Jesus Christ, the faithful and trustworthy Witness,

the Firstborn of the dead, and the Ruler of the kings of the
earth. To Him who always loves us and who has once for all
freed us or washed us from our sins by His own blood (His
sacrificial death) — and formed us into a kingdom as His
6

subjects, priests to His God and Father—to Him be the glory

and the power and the majesty and the dominion forever and
ever. Amen. - Rev. 1:5-6 (AMP)

As Christians, we have become priests to our God. And one of the

duties of a priest is to offer sacrifices on behalf of others.

32
Gratitude Challenge – Daniel C. Okpara

2 Peter 2:5 says, “Like living stones, let yourselves be assembled

into a spiritual house, a holy order of priests who offer up
spiritual sacrifices that will be acceptable to God through Jesus
the Anointed” (THE VOICE).

One way we can offer sacrifices on behalf of others is by praying

for them. Here are a few reasons to pray for others continually –
when it seems okay and when it doesn’t.

1. When we pray for others, we are doing the will of God.

If you’ve ever found yourself in a situation where you are in a

severe need of knowing what God’s will is on something, here’s
an exercise that can help you invoke God’s power to know what
His will is in times like that: you practice the revealed will, then
the unknown will be shown.

And praying for others and giving thanks is part of God’s

revealed will already. As you continue to invest yourself on these
two exercises, you will begin to know His will in that area that
you need clarity.

2. When we pray for others, we are sowing seeds that

will come back to us.

We will all need prayers at one point or the other in our lives.
Maybe not now, but at some point, we will need genuine people
to stand with us in prayer. When those times come, the prayer
seeds we have sown will multiply back to us.

33
Gratitude Challenge – Daniel C. Okpara

The Bible says in Genesis 8:22 that “While the earth remains,
seedtime and harvest, cold and heat, winter and summer, and
day and night shall not cease.”

3. Praying for others empowers our own prayers to be

answered.

As Job was restored by praying for his friends, we are restored

when we genuinely pray for others.

4. When we pray for others, we see the world from the

lens of others; we see the hurts of others, and our hearts
are melted before God with compassion.

Praying for others can make you more loving, more forgiving,
and more tolerant. It will make you more humble and reverent
because you will begin to discover that what you call problems is
small compared to what others are going through.

5. We acknowledge that God is the One in charge of

those we pray for, and lets us contribute in His work in
their lives.

Nothing makes me more humble and reverent than hearing

someone say, “Pastor, God has answered our prayers.” I know
that not everyone will get back, and we do not even need to know
all of the people we pray for, but having God as my partner in
helping someone, I mean, that’s a great privilege and honor.

34
Gratitude Challenge – Daniel C. Okpara

6. When we pray for others, we activate immeasurable

eternal rewards.

Jesus said in Matthew 25: 34-40:

34 “Then the King will say to those on his right, ‘Come, you who are
blessed by my Father, inherit the Kingdom prepared for you
from the creation of the world. For I was hungry, and you fed
35

me. I was thirsty, and you gave me a drink. I was a stranger, and
you invited me into your home. I was naked, and you gave me
36

clothing. I was sick, and you cared for me. I was in prison, and
you visited me.’

37 “Then these righteous ones will reply, ‘Lord, when did we ever
see you hungry and feed you? Or thirsty and give you something
to drink? Or a stranger and show you hospitality? Or naked and
38

give you clothing? 39 When did we ever see you sick or in prison
and visit you?’

40 “And the King will say, ‘I tell you the truth, when you did it to
one of the least of these my brothers and sisters, you were doing
it to me!’ (NLT)

Isn’t that interesting? By giving ourselves to the welfare of others

in works and prayers, Jesus says we were taking care of Him.

Day 3: The Power of

Intentional Praise

“By him, therefore, let us offer the sacrifice of praise

to God continually, that is, the fruit of our lips giving
thanks to his name.” - Hebrews 13:15

raise is a powerful force that enforces answers to

prayers. Some time ago, the Holy Spirit inspired me with
the following words: Praise is the vehicle that delivers
answers to your prayers.

Intentional praise is more powerful than we have taught and

understood.

Praise does not usually cost us anything. It is our response to

some actions that benefit us directly. For instance, when God has
blessed us, healed us, helped us, given us children, spoken to us,
and protected us, we feel generous toward Him and praise Him.
The motivation is there because there is a reference to a benefit
received. At such times, we can sing, worship, testify, and declare
how good He is - because we can see something He has done.

38
Gratitude Challenge – Daniel C. Okpara

That kind of praise, while very meaningful and commanded,

does not cost us anything. It is not a sacrifice of praise.

Then there are times when God did not come through to us the
way we thought He would. The health tests come back positive.
The spouse continues to want a divorce despite the many days
and months we have prayed. The kids are still misbehaving. The
business turns out bad. The landlord won’t just understand. The
mortgage firm calls in the loan.

You pray, confess sins, cry, wail, get hands laid on you, but God
seems very far away. Sometimes your prayers come back hitting
at you. Then the minutes turn to hours, then to days, then to
months, then to years.

Nothing.

“What have I done to deserve this?” you ask.

Or better put, what should you do next to be in God’s good

books?

Somehow, you assume that praise should be far from it. After all,
you’ve repeatedly declared that you’ll serve Him and praise Him
all your life – just let Him do this for you. Only this, and you’ll
shake the world with your testimony and praise.

But it looks like nothing is happening soon. What do you do next?

39
Gratitude Challenge – Daniel C. Okpara

Beloved, that’s when praise is a sacrifice. “When

circumstances continue to scream at you, and you’re
trying to figure out how to get going, praise is your
next best route.”

To praise God in those times requires a will to surrender to God’s

plan no matter what.

When we chose intentional praise in the face of many

unanswered prayers, we choose to believe that, yes, even though,
at the moment, life is not going as we desire and pray it should,
God is still a good God, and can be trusted.

Job said, “Though He slays me, yet will I trust in him: but I will
maintain mine own ways before him” (Job 13:15).

When we choose to praise God despite the visible storms, He is

honored, and our faith and worship grows deeper. Then we’re
like the three Hebrew boys who said amid so much confusion:
“Yes, we know that God will deliver us, but just in case He
doesn’t, we’ll still trust Him, and will never bow to your idols.”

This month, we chose to praise and worship because God

deserves our praise and worship, whether we have received
answers to our prayers or not. We chose praise over worry. We
chose praise because we know that faithful is He who promised,
and He will also keep His Word in our lives.

Hebrews 10: 23-24 says:

40

“Let us seize and hold the confession of our hope tightly

without wavering, for He who promised is
reliable and trustworthy and faithful to His word; and let us
consider thoughtfully how we may encourage one another to
love and to do good deeds” (AMP).

By praising God, we are holding tight to our hope and faith in the
promises of God for our lives, and by praying for others, we are
encouraging ourselves towards good deeds. As we intentionally
choose praise, therefore, let us be confident that God, our God,
shall bless us.

Day 4: Seven Reasons to

Remain in Praise When
You're Waiting

But they that wait upon the Lord shall renew their
strength; they shall mount up with wings as eagles;
they shall run, and not be weary, and they shall walk,
and not faint. - Isaiah 40:31

Nobody likes to wait.

I don’t.

We all want immediate results, fast answers, and instant

gratification.

We want to get answers immediately we ask. We want our life’s

toughest problems resolved in one or two hours.

I don’t know why we’re like that, but that’s how we are.

Yes. Common sense says doing absolutely nothing should be easy

for us, but it’s not.

44
Gratitude Challenge – Daniel C. Okpara

Fortunately, the art of waiting is one skill every Christian must

learn.

For you need patience - to bear up under difficult

circumstances without compromising - so that when
you have carried out the will of God, you may receive
and enjoy to the full what is promised. - Hebrews 10:36
(AMP)

After you’ve prayed and done the will of God, the next thing to
do is to wait. You need to bear up under the difficult
circumstances until the full manifestation of the answer.

Now I have to admit that as a preacher, it’s easier said than done.
But there’s nothing we can do about it. We must bear up under
difficult circumstances without compromising - so that when
we have carried out the will of God, we may receive and enjoy
to the full what is promised.

You’ve prayed for a job so you can provide for your family as the
Bible instructs. Great. So, where’s the job?

Wait.

You’ve prayed over and over that God will draw your children to
Himself, unto salvation. He says clearly in His Word that He will
do that. So, what now?

Wait.

45
Gratitude Challenge – Daniel C. Okpara

You’ve prayed for provision and power to get out of debt. The
Bible says that if God does care for the birds of the air, He’ll care
for us much more. You’ve read and claimed that over and over.
What’s next?

Wait.

You’re praying for a more definite path to take about your future.
God says He will guide us on the path to take. But there are still
doubts somewhere in your mind. How do you proceed?

Wait.

As a pastor, I hear this over and over, daily: “I’ve done a lot of
forgiving, I’ve broken foundational curses, I’ve claimed the
promises. I really need divine intervention in this matter. What
should I do next?”

It breaks my heart all the time when I hear things like that?
However, the scripture has the answer:

“Having done all….stand” (Ephesians 6:12).

Wait.

There are times when that’s all you can do.

Stand.

Maybe you’re in the middle of a strenuous physical, relational,

financial or spiritual challenge today. You’ve exhausted your

46
Gratitude Challenge – Daniel C. Okpara

resources to solve your problem, and prayed, and even prayed

some more. Now you need to:

“Wait for the Lord; be strong, and let your heart take
courage; wait for the Lord!” (Psalm 27:14)

As difficult as it can be, waiting develops our spiritual muscles in

unique ways. “…Those who wait upon the Lord shall renew their
strength; they shall mount up with wings as eagles; they shall
run, and not be weary, and they shall walk, and not faint.”

So why should we remain in praise and continue to give thanks

while waiting?

1. It keeps us in the right spirit

Over six hundred thousand people left Egypt with Moses. But
none of them, except their children, reached the Promised Land.
They all died in the wilderness. Why?

Unbelief, complaining and murmuring.

There’s no better antidote to unbelief and complaining than

willful praise. When we intentionally choose praise and thanks,
we bring into captivity every thought to the obedience of Christ.

2. Increases our faith

Faith is having the assurance that the things (the promises) we

haven’t seen are real, and acting as though we already have them

47
Gratitude Challenge – Daniel C. Okpara

(Heb. 11:1). Without faith, we cannot please God, or receive His

promises.

As humans, we’re always moving from faith to worry; from worry

to fear; from fear to hopelessness; from hopelessness to unbelief.
Then the circle starts all over again.

But praise keeps us in faith.

3. Submitting to God’s will

When we intentionally choose praise, we’re submitting to God’s

will for our lives at the moment. First, the Bible says that giving
thanks at all times is God’s will. Secondly, it is also a way we’re
saying, “Yes, LORD. We know You’ll see us through this. But just
in case we don’t get this, You’re still our God anyway.”

That’s the highest level of service.

4. A deeper understanding of God’s ways

God is dealing with us in different ways. There’s no guarantee

that your life and stories will be like the other person who
testified in church last Sunday. There are specific things and
revelations God is bringing your way.

As we remain in praise and thanks while waiting, we’ll begin to

understand what exactly is happening and why. God’s ways and
dealings with us will start to get more prominent.

48
Gratitude Challenge – Daniel C. Okpara

5. God is good, and He is bigger than our needs

Most times, when I read through hundreds of prayer requests we

receive daily, I’m moved to tears. There’s so much pain out there.
Some stories are so touching that you’ll wonder, “God, where are
You?”

One day, I was discussing one of the prayer requests with our
prayer team for prayers when the Holy Spirit began to enlighten
my mind. I began to see that sometimes the devil tries to magnify
our problems to look so big that we no longer remember that God
is good. I began to see that the first key to answered prayer is to
understand that God is good and that He’s bigger than our
problems. If this understanding is rooted in our spirits, the devil
will not mess with our minds. We’ll pray knowing fully well that
God is not intimidated by the problem; neither should we.

Intentional praise will, therefore, empower you to continue to

see the goodness and bigness of God over your circumstances.

6. God is more important than our needs

When we choose to remain in praise in our time of waiting, we

are acknowledging in practice that God is bigger than our
situations and needs. This type of attitude shows that we’re not
serving God just because we hope He will always give us our
needs; but because we love and accept Him as our creator and
owner.

49
Gratitude Challenge – Daniel C. Okpara

7. God’s plans are bigger than ours

Most of the things and problems we need help from are small
compared to what God wants to do with and in our lives. I
remember some time ago when we desperately needed to pay our
rent. I prayed earnestly for divine provision. Somehow, some
provisions came, yes. But it was not enough to solve the problem.
Though it got us some relief, we still needed more. However, it
was during that time God gave me an idea that has empowered
so many others to start their businesses and continues to lighten
others.

Look at that. I needed money to pay rent. We found ourselves in

a situation that was intense and needed instant gratification. We
prayed and prayed and prayed. But in answer to our prayers, God
gave me an idea. We didn’t get all the money to take care of the
rent issue immediately. But to God, that idea was more
important than instant cash to pay rent.

“For My thoughts are not your thoughts, nor are your

ways My ways,” declares the Lord. “For as the heavens
are higher than the earth, so are My ways higher than
your ways and My thoughts higher than your
thoughts.” - Isaiah 55:8-9 (AMP)

Remain in praise while waiting for answers to your prayers.

Many times, God’s got something more significant for you.

Day 5: Wonders of Praise

“Yet a time is coming and has now come when the

true worshipers will worship the Father in spirit and
truth; for they are the kind of worshippers the Father
seeks.” - John 4:23

s Christians, we are required to surrender entirely to

God. And one way we can do that is through praise.

Praise goes beyond something we do in the church for a

few minutes. It is something that should form the foundation on
which our lives are standing. Without praise, we cannot be
effective in our service for God.

What are some of the benefits of praise?

Praise brings us to a place of humility

Humility is having a right understanding of who we are before

God. Pure praise of God can only be done with a humble heart
and spirit.

Praising God with a humble heart and spirit is coming to God,

knowing our place of weakness but knowing that God has raised
us into positions that are higher than we deserve. We are now
54
Gratitude Challenge – Daniel C. Okpara

friends and co-heirs with Him. So we thank and praise Him,

giving him the place of high importance in our lives.

The rewards for praising God with a humble heart and spirit are
many: peace of mind which supersedes all understanding,
confidence that he will provide all our needs, and being
transformed more and more to be like him.

Praise paves the way for God’s power to be displayed

God responded to the praise of Paul and Silas, and suddenly a

great earthquake shook the foundations of the prison, and every
prison door flung open. Their chains came loose (Acts 16:26).

Just like the chains that were broken off the prisoners and the
prison doors were opened for all who heard Paul and Silas
worshipping God, those things that hold us captive can suddenly
be broken off our lives when we give praise.

God looks for praise in our trials. When we rent our voice up in
praise, we are saying to God, “No matter what happens, I will
trust and praise You.” In that complete surrender to God, we
place a demand on God’s power.

Praise sends the enemy fleeing

When we genuinely praise, we send the enemy running.

55
Gratitude Challenge – Daniel C. Okpara

Praise resists the presence of the enemy, satan. An atmosphere

which is filled with sincere worship and praise by humble hearts
disgust the devil. The devil fears the power in the name of our
Lord Jesus Christ and flees from the Lord’s habitation in praise.

“He who sacrifices thanks offering honors me, and

he prepares the way so that I may show him the
salvation of God – Psalm 50:23.

In the story of Jehoshaphat, when the children of Judah found

themselves outnumbered by the hostile armies of Ammon,
Moab, and mount Seir, King Jehoshaphat and all the people
sought the Lord for help. The Lord promised the people that the
battle is His and that He will fight for them, and they will hold
their peace. They resorted to praising and when they did, the
enemies ran way, killing themselves.

Your enemies will flee from you in seven ways. Whatever was
done to kill you will turn for your good. And whoever is plotting
your downfall or death will eat the bread they have baked. Give
praise and remain in praise.

Praise summons the presence of God

Praise gets God on the scene and invokes all kinds of

deliverances. The more time we spend praising and worshipping
God, the more we see ourselves command total freedom.

56
Gratitude Challenge – Daniel C. Okpara

Praise pushes the worries of this life into the background.

Sometimes, the problems we are facing can weigh us down and

not allow us to move on. But as we make an effort and establish
ourselves in praise, we will experience supernatural deliverance.

The Bible says:

“Be anxious for nothing, but in everything by prayer and

supplication, with thanksgiving, let your requests be made
known to God; and the peace of God, which surpasses all
understanding, will guard your hearts and minds through
Christ Jesus.” - Phil 4:6-7

Praise reminds us of who God is

We proclaim how great you are and tell of the wonderful things
you have done - Psalm 75:1

God is wise and powerful! Praise him forever and ever - Daniel
2:20

Through praise, we recall God’s past provisions and strengthen

our hope in His future deliverance

Ephesians 1:6 - Let us praise God for his glorious grace, for the
gift he gave us in his dear Son

57
Gratitude Challenge – Daniel C. Okpara

Deuteronomy 10:21 - Praise him—he is your God, and you

have seen with your own eyes the great and astounding things
that he has done for you.

1 Kings 8:56 - Praise the LORD who has given his people peace,
as he promised he would

Exodus 15:2 - The LORD is my strong defender; he is the one

who has saved me. He is my God, and I will praise him, my
father’s God, and I will sing about his greatness -

Through praise, we declare our dependence on God

Genuine praise works wonders in changing our lives. We cannot

come to God daily without coming more and more into his
presence. Through praise, we declare our dependence on God
and God alone.

Praise opens our hearts to receive God’s joy

The Bible says that only with joy shall we draw water from the
wells of salvation (Isaiah 12:3). The wells of salvation is a symbol
of the Holy Spirit. Praise helps us to invoke joy that empowers us
to tap from the well of God’s Spirit

Praise gives us access to unlimited revelation

Most times, what we need is direction, that is, divine instruction,

and we will come out of every darkness. The voice of God will

58
Gratitude Challenge – Daniel C. Okpara

bring deliverance and order. And praise will open the door to
hear His voice, always.

Praise brings us closer to God

Enter into His gates with thanksgiving, and into His courts
with praise. Be thankful to Him, and bless His name. – Psalm
100:4

Praise opens God’s gates and brings us into His very presence.
Where He is, is where we want to be.

Let’s stop complaining and murmuring because they will only

complicate our situations. Let’s start responding to our problems
with praise.

Day 6: What to Do When

Praise is Difficult

By the rivers of Babylon, there we sat down, yea, we wept,

when we remembered Zion.

We hanged our harps upon the willows in the midst

thereof. For there they that carried us away captive required
of us a song; and they that wasted us required of us mirth,
saying, Sing us one of the songs of Zion.

How shall we sing the Lord's song in a strange land? - Psalm

137:1-4

There are times that gratitude and praise are tough to give. For
instance, look at the scenario in the scripture. They were in
chains, been led to slavery. Yet they were asked to sing the Lord’s
songs. Unfortunately, they could not.

There are times that we can be in situations that we don’t know

why and how to praise God. At such times everything in us wants
to murmur and complain. It is easy to grumble and complain
than praise at such times. What should we do, and how do we

62
Gratitude Challenge – Daniel C. Okpara

express gratitude when we don’t feel it and the things happening

makes it even harder to do?

Please understand that when we teach and advise us to

concentrate on praise, we are not ignoring the reality on the
ground. We are not covering the facts of what's happening or
what has happened.

Yes, the pains are still there. The issues are still nagging. But as
we choose to praise, we are confronting the situations with the
power of God. We are saying “Yes, this is not good, but God will
make good His word. The light will shine.”

“Don't let the facts on ground rob you the

opportunity to dwell in praise from your heart.
Praising God genuinely is one of the most
powerful ways to turn the facts into testimony.”

David resolved to give thanks to God at all times. He said, “I will

bless the LORD at all times: his praise shall continually be in my
mouth. - Psalm 34:1

63
Gratitude Challenge – Daniel C. Okpara

This doesn’t mean he had it good always. He had his share of

many lows, many pains, losses and setbacks. But he chose to
praise.

He was a man surrounded by enemies. From his young age to his

old age, his life was like a precious stone in the midst of thorns.
But he chose to praise. He wrote over 75% of the book of Psalms,
otherwise called the book of praise.

How was David able to choose praise even amid so many

tribulations and warfare?

1. His Heart Was Fixed On God

“My soul is among lions: and I lie even among them that are
set on fire, even the sons of men, whose teeth are spears and
arrows, and their tongue a sharp sword.

Be thou exalted, O God, above the heavens; let thy glory be

above all the earth.

They have prepared a net for my steps; my soul is bowed

down: they have digged a pit before me, into the midst
whereof they are fallen themselves.

My heart is fixed, O God, my heart is fixed: I will sing and give

praise. - Psalm 57:5-7

64
Gratitude Challenge – Daniel C. Okpara

If you read verse 7 without reading from verse 4, you may assume
that he made that statement because he was reigning as king.
Therefore he had no problem.

But not exactly. He wrote that Psalm in the peak of Saul’s

vexation against him. He compared what he was going through
to one whose soul is among hungry lions, among men with spears
and sharp tongues. However, he would fix his eyes on God.

The Bible says to fix our eyes on Jesus, the author and finisher of
our faith – Not on our problems. Not on our battles. Not on our
pains.

When we do, we’ll find that we have reasons to praise God, no

matter what the situation is.

2. He Recognized God as His Light, His Salvation and the

Strength of His Life.

The LORD is my light and my salvation; whom shall I fear?

the LORD is the strength of my life; of whom shall I be afraid?
- Psalm 27:1

That’s simply saying, “Well, God is my all. I have no other person

or place to turn to.”

Just as the Bible says, salvation is in no other except Jesus Christ.

If you know that God is your last bus stop, you’ll choose praise.

65
Gratitude Challenge – Daniel C. Okpara

You’re not going to want praise because all your questions have
been answered and your problems solved. You’ll accept praise
because you know that God will surely save you. And that even if
there are things you do not understand at the moment, you’ll
understand them later. You do not have an alternative.

3. He Remembered

David remembered that God has been good to Him several times.
As a young boy tending sheep in the bush, God had enabled him
to kill a lion and a bear. God chose him to be king even when no
one gave him a chance.

So he thought that if God could do so much for him in the past,

He would also protect and save him, even in the very unpleasant
situation he found himself.

This is the same thing we need to do. We need to remember. If

God was good to you at any time in the past, then He will not
forget you now. Recall past victories and remember that God has
been faithful to you in the past.

“Recalling your past victory is a shield for you in

any adversity.”

If you can remember, you will see reasons to praise God.

Mizpah and Shen. He named it Ebenezer, saying, “Thus far

Day 7: Blow the Trumpet

"Speak to the sons of Israel, saying, 'In the seventh month on

the first of the month you shall have a rest, a reminder by
blowing of trumpets, a holy convocation. – Lev. 23:24-25

Today is declared a Day of the Trumpet. The day of the Trumpet

is the day of victory declaration.

The priests blew the trumpet, the people shouted, the city fell.

“So the people shouted when the priests blew with the
trumpets: and it came to pass, when the people heard the
sound of the trumpet, and the people shouted with a great
shout, that the wall fell down flat, so that the people went up
into the city, every man straight before him, and they took
the city.” - Joshua 6:20

Today, arise and blow the trumpet. Offer unto God unfettered
praise.

And David danced before the Lord with all his might, and
David was girded with a linen ephod. So David and all the
house of Israel brought up the ark of the Lord with shouting,
and with the sound of the trumpet. - 2 Samuel 6:14-15

Declare today a day of dance, unusual praise and declaration of

victory before the LORD. Get out of your way and charge yourself
before God with praise, worship, and dancing.

Let them praise His name with dancing; Let them sing
praises to Him with timbrel and lyre. - Psalm 149:3.

When that happens, what do we expect?

Then the virgin will rejoice in the dance, and the young men
and the old, together, for I will turn their mourning into
joy and will comfort them and give them joy for their
sorrow.– Jer. 31:13

As it is a day of the Trumpet, let the LORD lead you with words
to praise His Holy name. Play music and dance before Him
today.

Write down all your prayer requests and the areas you need
urgent intervention in your life. But instead of begging and
making petitions for these needs, drop the written requests on
the ground, and begin to dance around them. Dance anyhow, roll
on the floor before God and praise His Holy name. Then arise
and blow the trumpet. Make shouts of victory and keep going.
God is great.

Yes, the LORD comforts me. In Jesus name.

Amen.
