SELF-DETERMINATION THEORY AND THE FAILITATION OF INTRINSIC MOTIVATION, SOCIAL DEVELOPMENT,

AND WELL-BEING.

Recent academic research has discovered positive and resistant features inside the human nature. In
particular, the research guided by self-determination theory by Richard M. Rayan and Edward L. Deci has
investigated the affects of learning enviroments on the individual resources developments.

The study of these behaviours has identified three specific needs: competence, relatedness and Autonomy.
Through the two subtheory of Self-determination Theory, that are Cognitive evaluation theory (CTE)
specialised to the conditions of intrinsic motivation, and Organismic integration theory (OIT) specialised to
the conditions of Extrinsic motivation, we can denote the importance of the evolutionary environment
during the acquisition (positive and negative) of awareness and vital behaviors.
In both these two theories factors such as awareness, the possibility of choice and autonomous
internalization are fostered as a contrast to negative behaviours brought both by human inclination and by
social contexts.
In terms of Psicological needs and Menthal health self-determination theoy outlined the feeling of unease
caused by failure in the process of internalization, for this reason, it has been suggested to the concept of
the three basic psychological needs: Competence, autonomy and relatedness in order to experience an
outgoing sense of integrity and weel-being.

In my opinion, as an educational science student, studying the human perceptual behaviors could be an
excellent start in place to create an energizing and productive learning environment. Here the students'
intrinsic motivations could be cultivated through the understanding of their abilities, the definition of
personal goals and the use of the error as an element of acceptance and growth.
I strongly believe that the integration of these elements as basis of the learning process can promote
greater security in internalization actions.
During the attainment of more self-awareness and of personal goals the external input will be percent as a
factor to satisfy just the one's intrinsic motivation, Thus, the successful achievement of one's own
autonomy will lead to the satisfaction of the three principles and consequently to man's psychological well-
being.
As a result of reading this article, I believe that the mission of teachers is to understand and normalize
students' behaviors in order to create an environment in which they feel comfortable learning and growing.
