It is not exactly “equal to” but one ml of water has

a mass of 1 g because the density of water at 25
C is 1 g/ml.

1 ml x 1g/ml= 1g.

Related Why is the volume of 1 gm water

not equal to 1 ml water?
1 gm of water is 1 ml of water only at 4°C. At any
other temperature, the volume will be different.
Higher the temperature, higher will be the volume.
Due to the anomalous expansion of water, it
expands when its temp goes below 4°C too.

That is only true for water at a temperature of 4
degrees C. 90 grams of ice for example would be

The numbers are otherwise reasonably equal

because they used water to define what a liter is

of mass, calling it a kilogram.

It made conversions easier in a time without

Grams are a unit of mass, while mL are a unit of
volume. The conversion factor will depend on the
density of the material. If you’re talking about
water, you’re in luck, since water has a density of
1 g/mL.

And by the way, it was not luck after all, it was

skill. The gram was chosen to be the mass of 1 mL
of water.

A gram is a unit of mass, like kilogram, ton or
pound (pound-mass).

A millilitre is a unit of volume, like litre, cubic

metre or or cubic feet.

As such, how many millilitres are equal to 1 gram

depends on the density of the material you are
dealing with.

For example, the density of water at 4°C is of 1

gm/ml. So a ml of water at 4°C would have a mass
of 1 gm. A ml of a material with a density of 2
gm/ml would have a mass of 2 gm, and so on.

Related How do ml and grams differ?

ml is a measure of volume.

grams is a measure of mass.

They are therefore not interchangeable with one

exception.

They are related by density which specifies mass

per volume. Every material has a density value,

The exception I mentioned is pure water which is

defined as having a density of one gram per ml.
Thus, the number of grams of pure water is
always the number of ml of water. At standard
temperature of 4 °C and one ATM pressure,
anyway.

Related What is 1.25 mm of water in ML?

I think you mean 1.25 mm^3. . .Also, please note
the difference between M and m in SI prefixes. M
means ‘mega' (10^6), and m means ‘milli' (10^-3.)

1 cm = 10 mm, so 1 cm^3 = 10^3 mm^3 (or 1000

mm^3).

1 cm^3 = 1 mL, so the volume is 1.25/1000 =

0.00125 mL.

Related Is 1 ml equal to 1 mg? If not, why?

Because it totally depends on density.
Relation between mass, volume and density of
liquid is
Volume = Mass/Density
or Mass = Volume*Density
In this case mass is changes with density though
the volume is same. In other word same volume of
different liquids will give you different mass. So 1
mL of different liquid will give different mg of
mass. Even mass of 1 mL of same liquid will vary
at different temperature.
Only In case of pure water: At four degree
celsius mass of 1L pure water is 1kg.
so, 1L=1000mL=1kg=1000g=1000000mg
From above equation you will get 1mg = 0.001mL
or 1mL = 1000mg

Related Which one is greater: 20 ml or 20

gms?
Originally Answered: Which is more, 20 ml or 20 gram?

ml and grams are two completely different

measurements. One measures volume, the other
measures mass. It depends on the density of the
substance being measured.

In the case of olive oil 20 ml equals 18 grams, so

20 grams would more than 20 ml.

In the case of mercury 20 ml equals about 271

grams, so 20 ml would be more than 20 grams.

In the case of water 20 ml = 20 grams.

Side note: the official abbreviation for gram is g,

not gms.

No, that only works for water (and technically only

Depending on what kind of oil, it’ll most likely be
