General Instructions:
(1) There are 16 questions in all. All questions are compulsory.
(2) This question paper has five sections: Section A, Section B, Section C, Section D and Section E.
(3) All the sections are compulsory.
(4) Section A contains eight questions, six MCQ and two Assertion and Reasoning based of one mark
each, Section B contains two questions of two marks each, Section C contains three questions of three
marks each, Section D contains one case study based question of four marks and Section E contains
two long answer questions of five marks each.
(5) There is no overall choice. However, an internal choice has been provided in one question in Section B,
one question in Section C, one question in each CBQ in Section D and all three questions in Section E.
You have to attempt only one of the choices in such questions.
(6) Use of calculators is not allowed.

plane perpendicular to the horizontal component of earth’s magnetic field. It is rotated about its vertical
diameter through 1800 in 0.25s. Estimate the magnitude of the e.m.f and current induced in the coil?

A light bulb is rated at 100W for a 220 V supply. Find (a) the peak voltage of the source; and (b) the rms
current through the bulb.

(a) Using phasor diagram, derive an expression for the impedance of a series LCR circuit. What do you
mean by the resonance condition of a series LCR – circuit? Calculate its resonance frequency?

16. (a) With the help of labelled diagram, explain the principle, construction and working of an a.c
generator. Derive the expression for the induced e.m.f and current.

(b) Bhaargav peddles a stationary bicycle. The pedals of the bicycle are attached to a 100 turn coil of
area 0.10 m2. The coil rotates at half a revolution per second and it is placed in a uniform magnetic
field of 0.01 T perpendicular to the axis of rotation of the coil. What is the maximum voltage generated
in the coil?

(a) What is a transformer? Explain the principle, construction, working and theory of a transformer.
How is current affected in a transformer? What are the various energy losses in a transformer?
