एक दन हमारा मश र केले उगाने वाला
गेरी ी नवास पशु मेले से एक नई गाय खरीद कर घर लौटा।

“हम इसे ल मी बुलाएँगे,”

उसक प नी पावता मा ने कहा।

ले कन गाय के पीछे यह कौन था?
यह एक हरी आँख वाली काली-सफ़ेद ब ली थी।
“यह ब ली सारा रा ता हमारे पीछे पीछे चलकर यहाँ
तक आ प ँची,” गेरी ी नवास ने कहा।
“हम इसे मनुली बुलाएँगे,”
गेरी क बेट उमा ने कहा।

अगले दन गेरी ल मी को चराने मैदान म लेकर गया।
मनुली भी ल मी के पीछे पीछे चलती रही। बाक गाय उसे दे खकर हैरान थ ।

 “ मयाऊं,” मनुली ने धीमे से
उनको कहा।

“ह बा,” उ ह ने भी
अपनी म हलाते ए
धीमे से कहा।

शाम को ध हने का समय
आया। ल मी ने बाक सभी गाय
क अपे ा अ धक ध दया।
“ब त अ छे ल मी,” उसने
गेरी ी नवास ब त खुश
गाय को सहलाते ए कहा।
आ।

 अचानक ल मी ज़ोर
से म मयाई, ब ली
क तरह!

‘ह बा’ नह एकदम गाय क ताकत

बाक क गाय मुड़ कर उस ओर दे खने लग क भला
वाला एक ज़ोरदार ‘ मयाऊं’ बोला।
ये अजीब शोर कौन मचा रहा है?

वो सब हैरानी से एक साथ र भा
मनुली ने भी सुर म सुर मलाया,
उठ , “हमममम बा।”
“ मयाऊं।”
ल मी ने ल बी तान लगाई,
“ मयाऊं।”

“ मयाऊं?” गेरी को समझ नह आ रहा था क
यह गाय ब ली क तरह ‘ मयाऊं’ य बोलती है?

“मुझे भी नह मालूम, ले कन या
फक पड़ता है,” पावता मा ने कहा।

“यह बाक गाय से कुछ अलग है। हो

सकता है क मनुली ने इसे मयाऊं बोलना
सखाया हो। पर दे खो कतना ध दया है
इसने!”

अगले दन फर वही आ। ल मी ने ढे र सारा ध दया। फर वह ‘ मयाऊं’ क आवाज़ म ज़ोर से
च लाई। मनुली ने भी धीमे से ‘ मयाऊं’ कहा।

अब क बार बाक गाय खुश नह । इ ह ने

गु से से र भाया, “ह बा।” “ह बा।”

गाय ने ल मी क ओर घूर कर
दे खा। और फर ध दे ने से मना पर तु गाय पलट ग , मानो
कर दया। “अरे ऐसा मत करो, ध दे दो,” कह रही ह , “ ब कुल नह !”
गेरी ी नवास ने मनुहार क ।

 गेरी ी नवास को इस अजीब नई गाय पर गु सा आ रहा था।
“म इस गाय को वापस दे आऊँगा,” उसने अपनी मश र यो रयाँ चढ़ाते ए कहा।

 “पर यह कतना सारा मीठा ध दे ती है,
इसे यह रहने दो,” पावता मा ने मनाया।

“अ छ बात है। कल तक इसे र भाना

सीखा दो, वरना इसे यहाँ से जाना ही
पड़ेगा,” गेरी ने कहा।

 अगला पूरा दन पावता मा और उसके ब च ने ल मी को
र भाना सखाने म बताया।

उसे दखाए। उ ह ने खुद भी उसे र भा कर दखाया।

शव ना साथ म ईख लेकर आया।
शंकर पके ए चावल लेकर आया।

“ल मी र भाओ, ह बा,” उ ह ने गुहार लगाई।

सब लोग का इतना भाव दे ना ल मी को अ छा लग रहा था।
उसने पहले से भी अ धक ध दया।

 फर उसने पहले से भी अ धक ज़ोर से
आवाज़ लगाई, “ मयाऊं।”

“म इसे कल ही वा पस छोड़
आऊँगा,” गेरी ी नवास
गुराया। “बेवकूफ़ गाय!”

इस पर बड़े बेटे शवा को एक उपाय सूझा। “अ मा य न अभी के लए हम ल मी और मनुली
को घर क सरी ओर बाँध?”

“ऐसे म जब वह मयाऊं करेगी, अ य गाय

उसक आवाज़ नह सुन पाएंगी,” उसने
कहा।

मनुली के लए भी पास ही
नई टोकरी रखी गई।

बाक गाय से दो ती कर ली।

कई जगह से लोग ऐसी गाय को दे खने आने लगे जो ‘ मयाऊं’ क आवाज़ दे ती
थी। वे उसका मीठा ध चखने के लए अ धक पैसे दे ने लगे।

केले का हलवा भी
खरीदकर जाने लगे।

 गेरी ने यो रयाँ चढ़ाना छोड़ा और गु सा थूक दया। वह अब अपनी इस वशेष गाय से खुश था।
अब बाक सभी गाय भी ल मी से दो ती करना चाहती थ ।

एक शाम को गेरी का प रवार यह मयाऊं क आवाज़ नह थी, ना
ट वी दे खने बैठा। जी ना। यह था धीमे से, ब ली क
आवाज़ म, “ह बा!”
अचानक मनुली ने र भाया,
“ह बा!”

लगे, जो क गाय क तरह
अपनी पूँछ हला रही थी।
