CHAPTER I
INTRODUCTION

A. Background of the study

Enhancing health protocol is our powerful armor against the virus. It is the basic weapon

that everyone should have. Enhancing those protocols has something to do with the number one

problem that our world is facing right now. This Covid-19 pandemic made our lives complicated.

There is no exception from doing these protocols. All of the people are required to obey

and apply these protocols. They are the ones involved regarding this issue. The problem will start

if this protocol is not being obeyed and applied by all the people. The virus can easily affect

them and it will spread faster.

B. Statement of the Problem

● What will be the impact to the living of each individual if health protocols are

enhanced?

● How are we going to improve and let people accept and apply it in their life?

2
● How are we going to explain and implement it in an easy and understandable way?

● What preparations should be done in order to easily adopt the said health protocols?

D. Significance of the Study

The significance of this study is to enhance and improve the implementation of those

health protocols. This study will help those people who are living in San Carlos City,

Pangasinan to know better and understand those health protocols that our officials are

implementing. Health protocol provides safeties and awareness in our daily lives. It can

3
prevent us from exposing ourselves especially in our situation now. It gives us the

advantage in maintaining our health by following the protocols step by step to protect

ourselves and also those people around us. Safety is our first priority.

E. Scope and Delimitation

This study is focused on enhancing health protocols where almost everyone is

affected. This consists of the feedback or reactions of teachers, students, parents, and of

course the workers and non-workers to changes that will be made in order to enhance health

protocols.

This study limits its coverage for those who are not living and working in San Carlos

City, Pangasinan. Also, the age limit of this study is ages from 12 to 38 years old. The main

purpose of this study is to improve the implementation of those health protocols.

F. Definition of Terms

For the purpose of clarification, the important terms used in this study have been

defined.

The following terms are:

4
COVID-19. “CO” stands for corona, “VI” stands for virus, and “D” for disease. Formerly, this

disease was referred to as ‘2019 novel coronavirus’ or ‘2019-nCoV’.

Health Protocols. In a healthcare setting, a protocol, also called a medical guideline, is a set of

instructions which describe a process to be followed in order to be safe from a certain disease.

REVIEW OF RELATED LITERATURE

Nowadays, when you visit a health clinic, you will notice a number of steps we are taking

to keep our safe distance from others, people wearing face masks and face shields. According to

the article COVID-19 Health and Safety Protocols, this provides the specific importance of

obeying health protocols. This will allow every person, city, facilities, or even business to

manage operations in a safer and more effective manner throughout the COVID- 19 pandemic.

The main objective of this is not to eliminate potential risks, but to provide a systematic and

feasible path for the operation within the pandemic environment.

Everyone has a personal responsibility to obey and practice social distancing, wearing of

face mask and face shields, frequent hand washing, cough/ sneezing properly, proper tissue

usage and disposal, avoidance of touching their faces and respecting others. Those certain

5
measures are needed to reduce the risk of exposure and spread of COVID-19. It is the

responsibility of each individual to comply with this requirement.

According to Sarmiento, Sarmiento and Tolentino (2018) one of the most heavily

affected by the COVID-19 pandemic is the school openings. In our country, where the

Department of Education had decided to conduct and apply an online and modular type of

learning in order for the students and teachers to learn and teach while being safe and secured

from being infected by the virus.

Here are some personal safety practices:

● Employee

- Screening for each worker is a must for them to have a safe working place and

also to protect not just themselves but also their co-workers. This is likely to be effective most

especially when done at home, before going to work, for them to know when to inform and send

a sick leave information about their health issues.

- Each office/workplace must be with a restricted number of workers working and

shifting if possible.

- Signage showing some safe work practices should be posted in the workplace to

remind them every time about health protocols.

● Community

6
- People must make it a habit to wear a mask, and they should avoid using masks

with valves. Always ensure that both hands are both sanitized before putting it on, as well as

after touching and removing your mask from your faces.

- People must always remember to avoid populous places, if not, distance

themselves from people if necessary.

- People who don’t feel well should just rest at home and monitor themselves.

● Personal

- Equipment must be worn as much as possible for a worker to have physical

protection for themselves from having contact with some objects or people.

In the Department of Health (DOH) June 24 beat COVID-19 Virtual Presser, Health

OIC- Undersecretary Doctor Maria Rosario Singh- Vergerie featured that the innovations

implemented in the personal care services sector with experts and representatives of salons,

barbershops and the cosmetics industry. Those industry representatives shared how they are all

working together in implementing the health and safety guidelines mandated by the DOH and the

Department of Trade and Industry (DTI).

The representatives discussed and clarified the required health protocols they rolled out in

their stores such as setting time limits and customers, strict sanitation before and after the

service, strictly wearing of mask and face shield, and also wearing some personal protective

equipment or PPE.

CHAPTER 3
RESULTS AND DISCUSSION

INTRODUCTION
Enhancing health protocol is our powerful armor against the virus. It is the basic weapon
that everyone should have. Enhancing those protocols has something to do with the number one
problem that our world is facing right now. There is no exception from doing these protocols. All
of the people are required to obey and apply these protocols.

RESEARCH QUESTION
This research wants to solve for the answer for these questions: What will be the impact
to the living of each individual if health protocols are enhanced? How are we going to improve
and let people accept and apply it in their life? How are we going to explain and implement it in

8
an easy and understandable way? What preparations should be done in order to easily adopt the
said health protocols?

RESEARCH DESIGN

STUDY SETTING
The City of San Carlos is a landlocked component city in the coastal province of
Pangasinan. It is composed of 86 barangays that have a total population of 205,424 based on the
202 Census. Our team of researchers desired to gather enough information to better understand
the effectiveness of the current health protocol implemented in this city. We have sent out
questionnaires through the internet to random people who reside in the City of San Carlos,
Pangasinan.

STUDY PARTICIPANTS
We have gathered the necessary data from the 141 respondents who have answered the
questionnaires we have sent out.
In these 141 respondents, 111 of them are females and 30 are males, which is 78.7% and
21.3% respectively. The participants' ages range from 12 years old to 38 years old with the
highest number of responses from 17-year-old respondents.

PROCEDURE AND INSTRUMENTS

Our procedure started with an investigation, where we based on the location of our
respondents, which are the people working and living in San Carlos City, Pangasinan. What we
did next was to inquire, where we asked people by messaging them through messenger, and
asked them if they would allow us to conduct a survey, as well as confirming their location for
assurance for our scope. And the next part is the survey method, wherein we got their approval,
followed by sending them the Google form we prepared for the survey.

DATA ANALYSIS
To analyze the collected data, we use the appropriate and the real result coming from the
form that we used in surveying. To answer the statement of the problem, we’ll show the
supporting result to prove it.

15
For the statement problem no.4, which says, what preparations should be done in order to

easily adopt the said health protocols? We surveyed an opinion statement to know what are the

thoughts of people.

The first is, what is their opinion about COVID-19 vaccination? And the following table will show
their top responses:

Respondent 1 “I must say COVID-19 vaccination is a great help to

reduce the spread of COVID-19 especially for the

senior citizens who are most likely to get the

disease.”

Respondent 2 “Covid-19 vaccine can help us lessen the number

of Covid-19 cases in the world and I am agreeing

about the protocol of the government that all people

will receive vaccine.”

Respondent 3 “Not totally safe because of its side effect”

16
Respondent 4 “I don't think it's necessarily because some people

who gets vaccine, they are the one who's dying.”

Respondent 5 “Vaccines are needed to be study more to be sure

that it is safe and working.”

Respondent 6 “Undecided to take a vaccine.”

Respondent 7 “Vaccination is useless ”

Second is, for them, what kind of preparations should be done in order to easily and fully

adopt the said health protocols? The table will show their top responses”

Respondent 1 “They must follow and obey the health

protocols like sanitizing their hands, wearing

face masks, and practicing social distancing.”

Respondent 2 “Having self-discipline and being responsible.”

Respondent 3 “Being aware to the health benefits of the protocols

that are being implemented and also being updated

by the news, by watching television or any social

media platforms, or through seminars of

barangays, which shows how to do and follow

health protocols as well as its advantages for the

health of everyone to raise awareness.”

Respondent 4 “I have no idea.”

Respondent 5 “Just stay at home.”

17
Respondent 6 “The Government should have a clear plan on what

they want to implement and they should make sure

that the said plan is really effective. They also need

to be more focus on COVID-19 because based on

what I see, our cases are getting bigger. The

people should also follow the said rules in order to

lessen the cases.”

Respondent 7 “Get vaccinated.”

Respondent 8 “Through punishment for those hard headed.”

SUMMARY

We can tell that 68.8% of respondents haven’t had any symptoms of COVID-19 and

87.2% respondents follow the health procedures implemented in their places. Also, 95.7%

respondents frequently clean and sanitize their house or work place and 80.9% respondents

agrees that health protocols help in being safe from COVID-19. Furthermore, 88.7% respondents

thinks that programs/videos watched from the Television and other social medial websites really

helps to easily adopt the implemented health protocols. To add some, 71 respondents stated that

they must follow and obey the health protocols and 63 respondents agrees that vaccination is a

great help to reduce the risk of being affected by COVID-19.
