Solution:

1.
I. Coefficient of x2 = 1 > 0

∴ The graph opens upwards.

∴ I is true.
II. When x = 6,
y = (6 + 6)(6  3) + 8 = 9  0
∴ 6 is not an x-intercept of the graph.
∴ II is not true.
III. y-intercept = (0 + 6)(0  3) + 8 = 10
∴ III is not true.
∴ The answer is A.

2.
I. Coefficient of x2 = 1 > 0
∴ The graph opens upwards.
∴ I is true.
II. y-intercept = (1  0)(4  0)  3 = 1
∴ II is not true.
III. When x = 2,
y  (1  2)(4  2)  3
 5
∴ III is true.
∴ The answer is C.

3.
y  10  ( x  2)(5  x)
 10  ( x 2  3x  10)
 x 2  3x
I. Coefficient of x2 = 1 > 0
∴ The graph opens upwards.
∴ I is not true.
II. When x = 1,
y  10  (1  2)(5  1)
 2
∴ II is true.
III. When x = 2,
y  10  (2  2)[5  (2)]  10  0
∴ III is not true.
∴ The answer is B.

4005-c
4.
Coefficient of x2 = 3 < 0
∴ The graph opens downwards.
∴ A is not true.
Coordinates of the vertex = (0 , 27)
∴ It does not lie on the x-axis.
∴ B is not true.
When y = 0,
0  27  3 x 2
x2  9
x  3 or  3
∴ The graph has two x-intercepts.
∴ C is not true.
The axis of symmetry is:
3  (3)
x 0
2
∴ The graph is symmetric about y-axis.
∴ D is true.
∴ The answer is D.

5.
Coefficient of x2 = 2 < 0
∴ The graph opens downwards.
∴ A is not true.
When x = 4,
y  8  2(4  4) 2  8  0
∴ 4 is not an x-intercept of the graph.
∴ B is not true.
When x = 0,
y  8  2(4  0) 2  24  0
∴ The graph does not pass though (0 , 0).
∴ C is not true.
The vertex is (4 , 8), which lies in quadrant I.
∴ D is true.
∴ The answer is D.

6.
∵ The graph opens upwards.
∴ m>0
∵ y-intercept > 0
∴ n>0
∴ The answer is A.

4005-c
7.
∵ The graph opens downwards.
∴ m<0
∵ y-intercept < 0
∴ n<0
∴ The answer is C.

8.
When ax  7  0,
7
x
a
x -coordinate of vertex  0
7
 0
a
a0
y -coordinate of vertex  0
b0
∴ The answer is A.

9.
I. Coefficient of x2 = 3 < 0
∴ The graph opens downwards.
∴ I is true.
II. When y = 0,
3(u  x)( x  v)  0
x  u or v
If u = v, then uv = u2  0,
which contradicts to the given condition uv < 0.
∴ uv
∴ The graph has two x-intercepts.
∴ II is true.
III. When x = 0,
y = 3(u  0)(0  v) = 3uv > 0
∴ The y-intercept of the graph is positive.
∴ III is not true.
∴ The answer is A.

4005-c
10.
y -coordinate of vertex  0
h0
When kx  2  0,
2
x
k
x -coordinate of vertex  0
2
0
k
k 0
∴ The answer is C.
