The manual assumes the reader is familiar with basic electronic principles of discrete and IC analog and digital circuitry and has a fundamental understanding of the 540 operating characteristics as presented in the Model 540 Blo-Console ® Operators Manual and an understanding of the circult principles of the 540 as presented in the Model 540 series of Bio-Console ® Service and Repair Manuals. This manual is an original release of data for accessories and contains current data for 540 consoles serial number 00000 and up. The manual provides the following sections to assist the Authorized service representative in localizing and repairing 540 accessory faults to the component level. SECTION1 — This section provides information on the Model 100 Handcrank including functional description, schematic, calibration, maintenance and troubleshooting procedures, parts location illustrations and parts list of replaceable items. SEGTION2 This section provides information on the Model S40T external drive motor including functional description, schematic, maintenance and troubleshooting procedures, parts location illustrations and parts list of replaceable items. SECTIONS — This section provides information on the TX-40 transducer including functional description, schematic, maintenance and troubleshooting procedures, parts location illustrations and parts list of replaceable items. 2 ‘0590re! (This page intentionally blank) SECTION 1- MODEL 100 HANDCRANK FUNCTIONAL DESCRIPTION Figure 1-1 represents the schematic of the handcrank. At the handcrank primary shatt, @ pulley and belt are connected to a small DC generator to monitor shaft rotation. Output voltage of the generator is Proportional to RPM and is converted to current by the calibration resistor. Based on handcrank ‘gearbox ratio, pullay ratio and RPM to voltage characteristics of the generator, the circuit will ‘transduce handcrank output at a value of 1uA/45RPM. ‘The DC meter is full scaled at 4.5KRPM to properly indicate 4.5KRPM at 100uA of current flow in the circuit. DC GENERATOR RPM METER 0-100 pA DC METER (SCALE 0-45) : RESISTOR DRIVE FROM 10 KOHM HANDCRANK PULLEY Figure 1-1 Model 100 Handerank Schematic 4 o590re! MAINTENANCE AND TROUBLESHOOTING ‘The handorank should be tested and inspected annually by an authorized service representative. If crank handle fails to tum magnet drive while cranking, perform the following checks with the cover removed: CAUTION: STAY CLEAR OF MOVING PARTS WHEN THE CRANK HANDLE IS ROTATED 1. Verity crank handle is attached securely to the primary shaft by the handle set screw. 2. Verify drive magnet is attached securely to gearbox output shaft by the magnet shaft coupler screw. If the RPM indicator meter does not indicate RPM when the orank handle is turned, perform the following checks: 1. Verify the belt connected to the generator shaft rotates generator pulley. If the bell sips, loosen generator mount screws, pull up the generator housing to tighten the belt, then tighten the generator mount screws. — 2. Disconnect the leads from the generator (+) and (-) output terminals and connect a VOM set to DCV across the generator output. (DMM is not preferred). 43. Set the VOM to the 2Vde range or greater. Vigorously rotate the handcrank handle. The VOM Should indicate a voltage output greater than 0.2 Vde. If the generator output Is less than 0.2 Vdc, replace the generator. NOTE: The generator output is approximately 0.1Vde per Krpm of shaft rotation. 4. {the generator output is normal, connect the VOM set to OHMS across the open wires removed from the generator with meter (+) to the red wire. Meter should indicate ‘42.0Kohms. if the meter indicates an open, troubleshoot the series calibration resistor/meter circuit to locate the fault. 0590re! 5 CALIBRATION Calibration of the Model 100 Handcrank should be performed by factory maintenance only. In the event that factory calibration is not possible, infield calibration may be performed as follows: oO Only Authorized service representatives of Bio-Medicus may perform field calibration. ADJUSTMENT OF ANY MODEL 100 INTERNAL CIRCUITS BY UNAUTHORIZED PERSONNEL WILL VOID WARRANTY AND MAY CAUSE IMPROPER OPERATION. 1.Handorank RPM mater calibration Materials Required 1. Strobe or tachometer capable of measuring to 2000 rpm. 2. PC mount pot adjusting too! Diagrams: ‘Schematic = Figure 1-1 Locations - Figure 1-2 Procedures 1. Mount the handcrank on a Bio Console. 2, Sel up a tachometer or strobe to monitor the rpm of the handerank output magnet. 3. Rotate the crank handle counter-clockwise until the tachometer or strobe indicates the hhandcrank output magnet is rotating at 2000 rpm. 4. Adjust the calibration pot on the handerank until the rpm meter indicates 2000 + 200 rpm. ) NOTE: The crank handle and the Left Shroud must be removed to aocess the calibration pot. 5. Dismantle the test setup. 6 o5g0rel Figure 1-2 Model 100 Handerank Exploded View a MODEL 100 HANDCRANK-PARTS LISTS INTRODUCTION ‘All parts listed in this section are keyed to the exploded view drawing in figure1-2. This motor Is identical to the internal drive motor used in all 540 series consoles. See the Model 540 Serles Bio-Console Service and Repair Manual for technical data concerning motor drive and control circuits. Power is applied to the extemal drive motor by energizing relay K10 to transfor the drive inputs to the EXTERNAL DRIVE MOTOR connector. The external drive motor is then activated in the same manner as the internal motor. Figure 2-1 Model 540T Extemal Drive Motor Schematic 10 ossorel C MAINTENANCE AND TROUBLESHOOTING ‘The extemal drive motor should be tested and inspected annually by an authorized Service representative. If the external drive motor falls to operate, perform the following service checks: 1. Verity the EXT motor transfer LED is activated on the 540 console Area 2 panel. 2. Set the 540 console main POWER switch to OFF. Remove the external motor cable from the EXTERNAL MOTOR connector on the 540. 2. Set the 540 console main POWER switch to ON and press the MOTOR TRANSFER switch to ‘activate the INT motor transfer LED. Set the PUMP SPEED RPM control to ON and observe the 540 console internal motor output. -if the 540 internal motor operates. see step 4. "ithe 540 internal motor does not operate, the extemal drive motor is not faulty. See the 540 Service and Repair Manual to locate the fault in the 540 console. 4, Set the 540 console main POWER switch to OFF and perform the following checks: -Open 540 console and remove side panels (see maintenance section in $40 service manual). “Ohm the connections from J15 to K10 Relay as shown in figure 2-1. “Remove the connectors for relay K10 mounted on the Pressure board. Apply power to the 540 console and press the MOTOR TRANSFER switch to activate the EXT motor transfer LED. “Ohm the fo. contacts of K10 (now closed) from input to extemal motor output as shown on figure 2-1. 5. If the checks in step 4 indicate no fault, perform the following: -See figure 2-2 “Remove the magnet window, drive magnet assembly, pump receptacle and the pump teceptacle back plate. (find #’s 17, 2, 8, 7) “Check the cable assembly internal wiring by ohming from the connecter to the solder terminals (see Detail A). CAUTION: Hall effects may be damaged if they are ohmed across pins 1, 2 oF 3. 6. If the checks in step 5 indicate no fault, replacement of the motor is required. 0590ret WW naan? y . re | WE 2 ) oO Figure 2-2 Mode! 540T External Drive Motor Exploded View 12 ossorel MODEL 540T EXTERNAL DRIVE MOTOR -PARTS LIST INTRODUCTION ‘All parts listed in this section are keyed to the exploded view drawing in figure2-2 ‘A description of parts list headings is as follows: DESIGNATOR...
