Shocrete and Anchor Methodolgy
Shocrete and Anchor Methodolgy
1. INTRODUCTION
- The purpose of this document is to outline the proposed methodology for the construction
of Shotcreting and Anchor tie backs using dry mix and anchor drilling machine.
- The aim is to detail the sequence and method of construction, identify the hazard, assess the
associated risks involved, develop and implement adequate control measures and to
provide a safe place for work.
- The contractor will ensure that documentation is generated to record the installation
activities and to monitor the Quality Assurance.
- All personnel will receive a site specific induction. Before any works commence a method
of statement briefing will be conducted by the site management. Operatives will confirm
their understanding by signing the briefing register attached at the end of this method
statement.
- Under no circumstances shall any employee or subcontractor undertake works/activity they
perceive to be unsafe or commence an operation they do not fully understand.
2. RESPONSIBILITIES
2.1 The Project Engineer shall be responsible for overall operation activities inclusive
ensuring that all safety measures are implemented.
2.2 The Engineer shall be responsible also for the coordination and supervision of
construction activities and coordinate with other agencies and ensure that the work is
done as per specification and approved drawings and all safety measures are
implanted
2.3 Owner’s designated site Engineer/ Supervisor shall be supervising closely the
activities designated to them and ensure that all instructions are followed and all
necessary documents are in place prior to commencing the works and safety
procedures of the project is strictly adhered to.
2.4 Owner’s site safety personnel are responsible for the enforcement of safety and
ensure that the works are carried out in accordance with company safety procedures
on the HSE authorities.
3. METHOD STATEMENT
The method of installation of the Shotcreting and Anchor tie back is detailed below.
3.1 Working Platform:
3.1.1 The drilling works will be carried out from a levelled working platform.
3.1.2 The working platform shall be prepared and maintained with suitable
compacted material or steel plates matting for the movement of the
equipment and the ready mix concrete trucks.
3.1.3 The site shall be levelled and spacious enough to allow the machineries to
move freely to each point and every location without any obstruction.
3.1.4 During the preparation of the Working Platform and prior to the start of the
drilling, an investigation should be carried out to assure the absence of any
obstructions at the pile locations. All utility services, old foundations,
obstacles or any objects interfering with the drilling works shall be removed
or diverted.
4. Shotcrete installation
4.1.1 Clearing and grubbing, the area shall be cleared of debris and vegetation such as
grasses, shrubs, and small tress. All garbage shall be hauled out to designated
disposal area.
4.1.2 Trimming and backfill: Large uneven surfaces shall be trimmed and backfilled to
compaction.
4.2 Installation of wire mesh (Re. Bar)
Cement 14 bags/m³
All strans are to be cut to the designed length and tied together with tie wire at approximately 2.0 meters
centers. Plastic centralizers are to be fixed to the rebar 3.0 meters centre to centre over the entire length of
the cable. Free length shall be sheathed with a suitable plastic hose.
This bond length shall be loosened (unwire) and cleaned before insertion of anchor into drilled hole. The
fixed length shall also have centralizers at 3 meters centers.
If for any reason the rebar cannot be installed to the correct depth and blowing air and water through the
primary grout pipe does not free the rebar, it should be withdrawn and the hole re-drilled.
When the rebar is installed, the hole is to be cleaned again by flushing clean water through the primary
grout pipe until reasonably clean water flows out from the top of the hole.
Primary grouting must be carried out on the same day as tie backs (Strands) installation.
A primary grout pipe is to be tied to the cable and should reach within 0.5m to the bottom of the hole. This
grout pipe is withdrawn progressively during primary grouting.
The Grout is to be mixed for approximately two minutes in a mechanical mixer and pumped into the hole
through the primary grout tube. Pumping shall continue until the flushing water is displaced with grout of
even consistency flowing out of the drill hole.
Post grouting will proceed after 24 hours. Cement slurry of 0.4-0.45 water: cement ratio is carefully
pumped via the secondary grouting duct while recording the consumption and pumping pressure.
At the completion of post grouting it is ready to be locked when it achieves curing period.
1 anchor shall be subjected to routine acceptance test, test load shall be 1.50 of WL and
Carried out in stages as follows:
Stressing machine
