Our Healing

Mathew 8:1-3
1 When He had come down from the mountain, great multitudes followed Him.
2 And behold, a leper came and worshiped Him, saying, “Lord, if You are willing, You
can make me clean.”
3 Then Jesus put out His hand and touched him, saying, “I am willing; be
cleansed.” Immediately his leprosy was cleansed.

When a leper reached out to Jesus for healing, Jesus responded willingly.

God’s heart is the same for us today. Jesus Christ the same yesterday today and forever.

It is God’s will to heal. God is the healer of our entire being—spirit, soul and body.

God has already provided for our healing. He wants us to be aware of what He has done
and receive it by faith. The Word of God gives us an understanding about the basis for our
healing.

BASIS FOR OUR HEALING

1. NATURE OF GOD

Exodus 15:26
and said, “If you diligently heed the voice of the Lord your God and do what is right in
His sight, give ear to His commandments and keep all His statutes, I will put none of
the diseases on you which I have brought on the Egyptians. For I am the Lord who heals
you.”

God has revealed Himself as a healer from the very beginning. He is not the source or the
author of sickness and disease. There are other causes for sickness such as the
consequences of sin that followed the disobedience of man (Romans 8:19-23), the
influence of satan and demon spirits (Acts 10:38) and natural causes.

Hebrews 1:3
who being the brightness of His glory and the express image of His person,
and upholding all things by the word of His power, when He had by Himself purged our
sins, sat down at the right hand of the Majesty on high,

Sermon Notes

Jesus came to represent and reveal the Father. He demonstrated the heart of the Father
for people by going against sickness and disease. He brought healing and wholeness
through the work of the Holy Spirit and set people free (Luke 4:18,19; Acts 10:38)
One thing is clear — God does not send sickness and disease!

2. FINISHED WORK OF THE CROSS

We receive and minister the power of God to bring healing and deliverance. This is
possible BECAUSE of the finished work of Jesus on the Cross!

Isaiah 53:4,5
4 Surely He has borne our griefs And carried our sorrows; Yet we esteemed Him stricken,
Smitten by God, and afflicted.
5 But He was wounded for our transgressions, He was bruised for our iniquities; The
chastisement for our peace was upon Him, And by His stripes we are healed.

The Hebrew word for “griefs” is ‘choliy’ which means “sickness, disease, malady.”
The Hebrew word for “sorrows” is ‘makob’ which means “pain, sorrow, grief.”
By His wounds we are “healed.” The Hebrew for “healed” is ‘rapha,’ the same as the
covenant name of God when He revealed Himself as our Healer.
The Hebrew word for “peace” is ‘shalom’ which means our total well-being, which
includes our physical, mental, and emotional wholeness.

Jesus carried our sicknesses, diseases, pain, sorrows, griefs and gave us complete well-
being restoring every part of us! We are made whole because of Jesus.

Matthew 8:17
That it might be fulfilled which was spoken by Isaiah the prophet, saying: “He Himself
took our infirmities and bore our sicknesses.” On the Cross the Lord Jesus took our
sicknesses and diseases.

Even before Jesus went to the cross, He healed people on the basis of what He was going
to accomplish soon. This was a foretaste of what was to come.

3. VICTORY OF THE CROSS

Satan is defeated and destroyed through the victory of the Cross.

Colossians 2:14,15

Sermon Notes

14 having wiped out the handwriting of requirements that was against us, which was
contrary to us. And He has taken it out of the way, having nailed it to the cross.
15 Having disarmed principalities and powers, He made a public spectacle of them,
triumphing over them in it.

Hebrews 2:14
Inasmuch then as the children have partaken of flesh and blood, He Himself likewise
shared in the same, that through death He might destroy him who had the power of
death, that is, the devil,

Jesus shares His victory with us (Isaiah 53:12).

We need not tolerate oppression of the enemy upon any part of our being– spirit, soul,
or body. We can enforce the victory of the Cross to experience freedom.

4. COVENANT

God has made all of Himself and His goodness available to us through the covenant.

Jesus honored the Abrahamic covenant and released deliverance for a daughter of
Abraham.

Luke 13:10-17
10 Now He was teaching in one of the synagogues on the Sabbath.
11 And behold, there was a woman who had a spirit of infirmity eighteen years, and
was bent over and could in no way raise herself up.
12 But when Jesus saw her, He called her to Him and said to her, “Woman, you are
loosed from your infirmity.”
13 And He laid His hands on her, and immediately she was made straight, and glorified
God. 14 But the ruler of the synagogue answered with indignation, because Jesus had
healed on the Sabbath; and he said to the crowd, “There are six days on which men
ought to work; therefore come and be healed on them, and not on the Sabbath day.”
15 The Lord then answered him and said, “Hypocrite! Does not each one of you on the
Sabbath loose his ox or donkey from the stall, and lead it away to water it?
16 So ought not this woman, being a daughter of Abraham, whom Satan has bound—
think of it—for eighteen years, be loosed from this bond on the Sabbath?”
17 And when He said these things, all His adversaries were put to shame; and all the
multitude rejoiced for all the glorious things that were done by Him.

Sermon Notes

Through the shedding of His blood, the Lord Jesus established a better covenant which
releases better promises (Hebrews 8:6), which include health and wholeness (Col 1:13,14;
Hebrews 9:12; Rev 12:11).

God offers healing through the covenant and called it the children’s bread (Mat 15:21-28)

5. REDEMPTION BLESSINGS

Jesus completed His mission of redeeming us. Our entire being is redeemed and belongs
to Jesus—spirit, soul, and body.

1Corinthians 6:19,20
19 Or do you not know that your body is the temple of the Holy Spirit who is in you,
whom you have from God, and you are not your own?
20 For you were bought at a price; therefore glorify God in your body and in your spirit,
which are God’s.

Satan no longer has a claim on us.

Since we are redeemed and precious to God, it is our responsibility to steward our health
and possessions well.

RECEIVE YOUR HEALING AND MINISTER TO OTHERS

God has already provided healing and deliverance for us; all we have to do is to receive it
by faith.

When we hear the Word of God regarding what Jesus has done for us, faith is built up in
our hearts and healing will manifest (Romans 10:17). Sometimes we may experience
instantaneous healing and at other times see a progressive improvement. Nonetheless,
keep pursuing healing because it IS ours!

God is not just the God of healing and deliverance but a God of signs, wonders, and
miracles.
We can believe Him to work powerfully in our lives.

Mark 16:17,18
17 And these signs will follow those who believe: In My name they will cast out demons;
they will speak with new tongues;
18 they will take up serpents; and if they drink anything deadly, it will by no means hurt
them; they will lay hands on the sick, and they will recover."

God calls us to receive our healing and to minister to others as well.
