The Chalice

Being Family
By Rev. Chris Shorow, Senior Minister
This past Sunday was marathon Sunday for many members of our staff. We try to have many of our committee meetings after church on specific Sundays so that we may get them done all at once. So that means one meeting after another until at least 7:00, hence the term marathon Sunday. Greg and Mark had meetings too, but after the youth lock-out and staying up all night on Saturday night, marathon Sunday took on a whole new meaning for them! Although staff members may have marathon Sundays, so do some of our wonderful volunteers. In fact, as I sat through these meetings, I noticed that our moderator-elect for the congregation, Frank Gresh, was also at the same meetings. Franks day started at 7:00am as he set up the audio-visual aspects of our worship services in the sanctuary. It continued all day long until his final meeting at 6:30 started. Im sure Frank put in over 12 hours on Sunday. Wow. The wonderful thing about our church family is just thatfamily. Our volunteers dont simply put in their time on church projects. They invest themselves in our church family. They are concerned about every other member and what is going on in their lives. They consider all of the children of the church their children. After all, it takes a community to raise our childrenand thats what we area community of faith. Gods family. So here is a big thank you to all of our volunteers who spend lots of time doing Gods work here at the church. I also want to thank our dedicated and wonderful staff who are willing to spend marathon days making sure Gods work is carried out. But mostly, here is a big thank you to our church family for being a loving family. Gods family.

All Creatures Great and Small

Pet Blessing
By Shirley Brown

Our pets give us glimpses of God through their complete trust, joy in being with us, unconditional love, and faithfulness. We invite you to bring your pet and join us Sunday, October 30th for our Pet Blessing, at 2:30 PM, in front of the Family Life Center. Please put your pet on a leash or in a carrier. During the blessing there will be a Time of Remembrance for those who have experienced the loss of a pet. Please put your name and the pets name on a piece of paper and put it in Iris Muno Jordans mailbox in the workroom or email her at ijordan@fccedmond.org no later than Friday, October 28.

Extravagant Creator, The world is teeming with your creatures. For the ways we are inspired by their variety and beauty, benefit from their labor, and enjoy their companionship, we give you thanks.

Amen

Each year First Christian participates in the Church World Service CROP Hunger Walk. Money raised from the CROP Walk helps fight hunger around the world, as well as in our own community. A portion of the money raised will support Breakfast on Boulevard, Mobile Meals, The Hope Center, and Samaritan House. This year the CROP walk is on Sunday, November 6. Everyone is invited to join us as we have fun while making a difference for those who are hungry! Stop by the table in the Fellowship Hall this Sunday, pick up a walker packet, or simply make a donation! Then join us at Mitch Park on Sunday, November 6, for the walk. Registration begins at 1:00 and the walk begins at 2:00. Hope to see you there! ~ Your Outreach Ministry Team
