*** NOTE ***
you can do one round of SC around the piece to give it a more polished look and
smoother sewing edge but if you choose to do this, be very careful it doesn’t ruin
the shape of the piece.
I prefer to sew this piece on to the center of the hat now but you may wish to wait
until all the other pieces are done. Ensure when sewing this down that you shape
as you go. The upper eye area is heart shaped and the two sides of the mouths are
pulled left and right a touch.

middle and sew with.
7. For eyelashes, cut 12 – 3” pieces of black. You will use two strands for each
eyelash using 6 strands on each eye. Take two strands and latch hook them
through one of the upper outside corner stitches on the white part of the eye
and repeat two more times for each eye. Trim as desired.
TIES
Use 4 strands of each color for each earflap. Fold the strands in half forming a
loop at the top.
Slip the crochet hook into the bottom of the earflap. Pull the loop through the
earflap.
Take the strands and pull them through the loop and pull tight to secure.
Divide the strands into 4 equal sections of 4 strands each alternating colors and
braid.
You will braid the strands just like a three way braid. You just have a 4 th group.
Start with the far right color.
In this example the white group on the far right. Bring the white group over the
top of the red group to its left.
Next take the second white group and bring it over the first white group
Page 18 of 22
Finally, bring the red group on the far left under the first white group which is now
in position 3.
Doing the four way braid with alternating colors generates the striping pattern. If
you do not want the striping pattern then divide per your liking and braid normally.
Pull the first group tight and then repeat the steps. This time it is the red group on
the far right. Bring it over the white group to the left of it.
Next bring the second red group in 3rd position over the red group in second
position
Then to finish off this row, take the white group in 4th position and bring it under
the red group in 3rd position and tighten up.
Repeat the over, under, over, under technique all the way down the tie. When you
get to the bottom of the tie, make a slip knot to secure the braid.
Repeat for the second earflap. Compare the braids to each other and adjust slip
knots as needed and trim ends even.
