Exercise - 1

Dear Students,

After completing Sessions 1 and 2, you will engage in exercises designed to enhance your
practice and comprehension of the topics covered. If you encounter any difficulties during these
exercises, we will address those issues at the beginning of Session 3.

Workbook Management:

 Create a new workbook from scratch.


 Save an existing workbook with a different name and in a different location.
 Close and reopen a workbook.
 Compare and merge data from two different workbooks.

Worksheet Manipulation:

 Add a new worksheet to an existing workbook.


 Rename worksheets to meaningful titles.
 Move and copy worksheets within or between workbooks.
 Delete unnecessary worksheets.

Cell Operations:

 Format cells to change their font, alignment, and number format.


 Merge and unmerge cells for better presentation.
 Use cell references to perform basic calculations.
 Apply cell protection and locking to specific cells or ranges.

Basic Number Formatting:

 Format a range of cells to display numbers as currency (e.g., dollars).


 Format another range to display percentages.
 Apply date and time formatting to a different set of cells.

Custom Number Formatting:

 Create a custom number format that displays numbers with a specific text label (e.g.,
"Sales: $10,000").
 Experiment with custom number formats to display data creatively.

Working with Time Formats:

 Format a series of cells to display time values in a specific format (e.g., 12-hour vs. 24-
hour format).

Basic Editing and Navigation Shortcuts:

1. Ctrl + C: Copy selected cells.


2. Ctrl + X: Cut selected cells.
3. Ctrl + V: Paste copied or cut cells.
4. Ctrl + Z: Undo the last action.
5. Ctrl + Y: Redo the last action.
6. Ctrl + F: Open the Find and Replace dialog.
7. Ctrl + H: Open the Find and Replace dialog for replacing text.
8. Ctrl + Arrow keys: Navigate to the edge of data regions.
9. Ctrl + Space: Select the entire column of the active cell.
10. Shift + Space: Select the entire row of the active cell.

Formatting and Cell Operations:

11. Ctrl + B: Bold text.


12. Ctrl + I: Italicize text.
13. Ctrl + U: Underline text.
14. Ctrl + 1: Open the Format Cells dialog for formatting.
15. Alt + Enter: Start a new line within a cell.
16. Ctrl + K: Insert a hyperlink.
17. Ctrl + 5: Apply strikethrough formatting.
18. Ctrl + ; (semicolon): Enter the current date.
19. Ctrl + Shift + ; (semicolon): Enter the current time.
20. Ctrl + ~ (tilde): Show or hide formulas in cells.

Working with Rows and Columns:

21. Ctrl + + (plus sign): Insert new rows or columns.


22. Ctrl + - (minus sign): Delete rows or columns.
23. Ctrl + Shift + + (plus sign): Insert new cells.
24. Ctrl + - (minus sign): Delete cells.
25. Alt + E, S, V: Paste Special.

Working with Sheets:

26. Ctrl + N: Create a new workbook.


27. Ctrl + O: Open an existing workbook.
28. Ctrl + S: Save the active workbook.
29. Ctrl + W: Close the active workbook.
30. Ctrl + Page Up/Page Down: Navigate between sheets.

Working with Formulas:

31. Alt + E, I, S: Insert a new worksheet.


32. Alt + D, L: Create a data validation rule.
33. F2: Edit the active cell.
34. Shift + F3: Open the Insert Function dialog.
35. Ctrl + Enter: Enter data into multiple selected cells.
36. Alt + Enter: Start a new line within a formula cell.
