“Direct Objects”

- In a sentence, a direct object is a person, place, or thing that receives the action of the
verb or affected by the action of the verb. The direct object can be either a noun or a
pronoun. A direct object can be found by asking ‘Whom?’ or ‘What?’ about an action
verb.
*Object pronouns are “me, you, her, him, them, us, it”.

*Example:
- I met my friend. “Direct object= friend” (Just the noun without “my”)

-A compound direct object is two or more objects that receive the action of the same verb.
The objects can be nouns, pronouns, or both.

*Example:
-Mama bought a red shirt, a black skirt, and a new wallet.
(Direct objects: shirt/ skirt/ wallet)
-Mama called my brother and me.
(Direct objects: brother/ me)
*Note: Remember that the subject is the noun or pronoun which does the action and it
comes before the action verb whereas the direct object is the noun or pronoun which
receives the action and it comes after the action verb.

- Sentences with more than one action verb may have a direct object after each action
