The world is surrounded by many great people that made their best to make the

planet a better place and today iam going to talk about one of them

Today im going to talk about Marsha P Johnson and her importance in the world .
Marsha was born on August 24, 1945, in New Jersey. Assigned male at birth, she grew
up in an African American, working-class family and After a few years with 18 she
moved to New York where she died at the age of 46y.
Marsha was one of the most prominent transexual figures of the gay rights movement
of the 60s and 70s in America, being known to be the mother of the gay liberation.

Marsha’s life dramatically changed in 1969 when she was frequenting a famous gay
bar in nyc. That night, police officers raided the bar. As the officers began to arrest
people for violating various discriminatory laws, Marsha stood up and fought against
them
Lots of riots broke out, riots that sparked an entire movement for LGBT rights and
Marsha was one of the most active and importants on the front line , like many other
transgender women, that felt they had nothing to lose. They weren’t only angered by
the police raid but also the oppression and fear they experienced every day. The raid
on Stonewall awakens the gay rights movement.

Few years later Marsha and her friend Sylvia Rivera founded STAR standing for street
Transvestite Action Revolutionaries, an organization dedicated to sheltering young
transgender individuals and paid the rent by doing street sex work at night.
This association still exists to this day and had the power to eradicate some
homophobic laws that existed in the city.

I chose Marsha P Johnson because I think she never got all the attention she should
have had and because I do really admire her for not being afraid to be how she was in
her time when everything was restricted.
