STUDENT LEARNING PLAN

Learning Area: Science Grade Level: Grade 7 Quarter: First Quarter

Teaching Dates and Time: August 6-10, 2018, 5:00 – 6:00 (Carnation), 7:20 – 8:20 (Daffodil)
Teacher: Ms. Cindy S. Valderama

Topic/Content: Metals and Non - Metals

Content Standard: The learner demonstrates understanding the of properties of metals and nonmetals
Performance Standard: The learner is able to properly differentiate the metals from non-metals and
describe each of its properties.

Learning Competencies:
(1) describe some properties of metals and non-metals such as luster, malleability,
ductility, and conductivity. S7MT-Ij-7

Specific Objectives:
Within the specified period the learners should be able to:
 Identify metals and non – metals
 Differentiate metals from non - metals

Day 1
I – Preliminaries

Elicit

Activating prior knowledge

Key Question

How are metals different from nonmetals?

How are they similar?

II. Lesson Development

Procedure

Engage

Watch a video clip about metals and non-metals

What have you learned from the videos you have just watched?
What key words or ideas are described or defined by the video clips?
Explore

Activity 1 – Cut and Paste

- The students will be divided into groups each with an envelope containing pictures of different
objects found in the community. The student will then group the objects into two namely metals and
non – metals.

Explain

Each group will explain their output in front of the class.

Day 2

Topic/Content: Metals and Non - Metals

Content Standard: The learner demonstrates understanding the of properties of metals and nonmetals
Performance Standard: The learner is able to properly differentiate the metals from non-metals and
describe each of its properties.

Learning Competencies:
(1) describe some properties of metals and non-metals such as luster, malleability,
ductility, and conductivity. S7MT-Ij-7

Specific Objectives:
Within the specified period the learners should be able to:
 Identify the properties of metallic and non – metallic objects

Explore
Activity 2 – Word Play

- The students will be divided into 8 groups. Each of the groups will be given paper strips containing
rumbled letters. The students will then decode the given word.

Explain
- After the students have decode the mystery words, they will report what the word is all about in front
of the class.

Day 3
Topic/Content: Metals and Non - Metals

Content Standard: The learner demonstrates understanding the of properties of metals and nonmetals
Performance Standard: The learner is able to properly differentiate the metals from non-metals and
describe each of its properties.

Learning Competencies:
(1) describe some properties of metals and non-metals such as luster, malleability,
ductility, and conductivity. S7MT-Ij-7

Specific Objectives:
Within the specified period the learners should be able to:
 Distinguished metal and non-metals through electric conductivity
 Distinguished metal and non-metals through electric conductivity

Explore

The students will be divided into 8 groups. Each group will then perform activity 3.

Activity 3 – Which can conduct electricity, metals or non – metals?

Day 4

Topic/Content: Metals and Non - Metals

Content Standard: The learner demonstrates understanding the of properties of metals and nonmetals
Performance Standard: The learner is able to properly differentiate the metals from non-metals and
describe each of its properties.

Learning Competencies:
(1) describe some properties of metals and non-metals such as luster, malleability,
ductility, and conductivity. S7MT-Ij-7

Specific Objectives:
Within the specified period the learners should be able to:
 State the importance of metals and non-metals in daily lives.
Elaborate

The students will write their reflection on how important are metals and non-metals in their daily lives.

Evaluate

1.
Which of the following elements is most likely ductile at room temperature?
A. Sulfur C. Nitrogen
B. Mercury D. Aluminum
2. An element was subjected into flame and the acidity of the oxide formed was tested. Solution of this
oxide turned red litmus paper to blue. Which is most likely that element?

A. Chlorine C. Phosphorus
B. Nickel D. Silicon

Extend

What do you think will happen if metallic objects were not discovered in the early times?
