Metso’s Mining and Construction Technology
has developed a new Nordberg PA automa-
tion system for crushing plants which optimi-
zes the material flows of the plant using a
control unit. The PA automation system cont-
rols the speed of the primary crusher’s feeder
continuously, optimizing it based on meas-
ured process data.
The PA system is an ideal solution for pro-
viding extra capacity for two- and three-
stage plants. The system adapts to produc-
tion needs automatically, switching for
example from three-stage use to two-stage
use as necessary.
PA system provides tons and quality
The PA system controls the process continu-
ously without any user intervention. This
ensures that the tertiary crusher also remains
at an optimal level and produces high quality
aggregate. The PA system makes it possible
to reach, and even exceed, the production
values calculated during process simulation.
It also takes the “circulating” material into
account.

long-term capacity increases in crushing and
screening processes as well as operating
cost savings.
PA system offers numerous benefits
The average production capacity of
the plant increases because:
• PA removes the need for “over-
cautious” feeding, making higher
crusher loads possible without the
danger of flooding

consider the correct crusher settings

Diverse crushing process
adjusting system
The PA system is an independent automation
system, suitable for a variety of crushing pro-
cesses. The primary crusher must be a jaw
crusher – all other crushers in the system
must be cone crushers. The system is not
connected to existing control systems of the
used crushers or screens. It can be installed
in most crushing processes in operation today.
The PA system does not restrict the reposi-
tioning of machinery in mobile plants. Cab-
ling is done with connectors which are easy
to detach. The system’s control center is loca-
ted in the primary crusher (PA700) or the
plant’s electric center.
Based on field-tested technology
The PA system consists of the following
components:
• Control center with
- Process control unit
- Color display unit
- Operating buttons and pilot lights
• Status information mast
• Sensors and cabling
• Control programs and process displays
Ease of use a standard feature
Using the PA automation system for crushing
plants is extremely easy. The system shows
the process status with a color display and
information mast. When the crushing process
produces good results, the applicable PA
system parameters can be saved as a recipe.
You can save several recipes (for example
0–16 mm, 0–35 mm, etc.). When the material
to be crushed changes, you can change the
recipe easily, and even modify it if necessary.
You can copy recipes to and from a USB
memory stick to be used in different plants.
PRODUCT OVERVIEW
In addition to the status information mast,
you can also use an optional wireless display
installed in the loading machine. You can also
use optional wireless cameras to transmit
video footage to displays located at selected
places. You can then use these displays to
monitor the process status. It is also possible
to control the feeder with an optional radio
controller. The right system for your plant

• PA800 for stationary installations and
portable plants with one electric feeder
motor with maximum output of 11kW
or two electric feeder motors with
maximum output of 5.5 kW
• PA900 for stationary installations and
portable plants with one electric feeder
motor with maximum output of 22 kW
• Feeders with an electric feeder motor
with maximum output exceeding 22 kW,
PA700 and external control unit
User interface with clear options
The user interface of the PA system is a touch-
screen display. The pilot lights on the menu
page display the process status and can be
used to access detailed process information.
You can access the feeder display, recipes,
process display, and alarms from the menu
display.
The system help provides detailed informa-
tion on the process parameters. You can use
the service, diagnostics, and help pages to
determine and solve possible problems.
