Problem A:

The occurrence of lung cancer among males vary between ages. The following is a data set on the ages

of lung cancer among males:

52 50 47 54 65 24 27 45 48 47 46 53

56 57 58 47 47 47 52 50 56 60 60 60

63 65 64 58 25 26 29 55 53 56 57 57

56 58 59 63 62 32 31 35 37 33 34 36

33 35 39

1. Construct a frequency distribution for this sample of ages of males with lung cancer and then plot the

histogram.

AGE FREQuENCY
24-30 5
31-37 9
38-44 1
45-51 10
52-58 16
59-65 10

2. Obtain the three measures of central tendencies: the mean, median and mode. Interpret each value

in relation to the problem.

Mean 48.22 48 is the average age of males with lung cancer.

Median 52 The age 52 is the middle value in the data set.
Mode 47 In the given data set, the age that appears most frequently is 47. It occurs 5 times.

3. Compute the standard deviation of the population. Interpret it in relation to the problem.

Standard Deviation (P) 11.954675 The standard deviation of population 11.95 indicates that
the data is widely spread out.
Problem B:

The following data set contains 50 observations on the average percentage of sales of a certain brand

product in CY 2009 for the 50 store outlets in the country.

62.5 44.8 75.4 70.1 33.1 43.8 55.6 83.2 71.8 32.1

42.7 57.9 81.9 72.4 31.8 37.5 63.2 77.4 33.9 30.3

48.7 39.4 67.9 42.8 66.5 51.6 31.5 64.8 53.9 57.3

45.4 30.2 87.5 54.6 63.8 38.2 63.4 66.8 52.3 80.9

37.3 64.7 62.8 55.6 85.6 36.5 72.4 60.5 47.3 87.2

1. Construct a frequency distribution for the sales percentage and then plot the histogram.

SALES

30.2-39.2 11 12
40.2-49.2 8 10

50.2-59.2 8 6 Frequency

2. Obtain the three measures of central tendencies: the mean, median and mode. Interpret each value

in relation to the problem.

Mean 56.38 58 is the average percentage of the sales of the given data
Median 56.45 56.45 is the middle value in the data set
An average percentage of 72.4 frequently appeared in the
Mode 72.4 given data set.
3. Compute the standard deviation of the population. Interpret it in relation to the problem.

Standard Deviation (P) The standard deviation of population 16.83

16.82639 indicates that the data is widely spread out.

Directions: This part of the test assesses your capability to test hypotheses given the cases. This can be

verified if you can answer the following questions satisfactory using the guide below:

A. State the null hypothesis.

B. What are the variables involved in the study? (dependent, independent)

C. What kind of data will you be able to gather from this study? (nominal, ordinal, interval or ratio)

D. What statistical test shall you use to test the hypothesis of the study?

E. Why should this statistical treatment be used?

1. A beverage corporation wishes to determine the work dynamics of their employees using a

questionnaire with agreement scale according to their position level. The position levels are: supervisory

and non-supervisory. If you are to answer this research question: Is there a significant difference in the

employees’ work dynamics when they are grouped according to position level?”

A. There is no significant difference in the employees’ work dynamics when they are grouped according
to position level.

B. IND – Position level group DEP- Employees’ work dynamics

C.Ratio

D.

E.

2. Is there a significant relationship between the level of critical thinking skills and the level of

competencies on evidence-based practice skills, research skills, and information technology skills among

employees?

A. There is no significant relationship between the level of critical thinking skills and the level of

competencies on evidence-based practice skills, research skills, and information technology skills among
employees.

B.IND - level of competencies on evidence-based practice skills, research skills, and information
technology skills among employees

DEP - level of critical thinking skills

C. NOMINAL

3. Using Ajzen’s Theory of Planned Behavior, a study was conducted to determine the antecedents of

behavior. The following were identified according to the Theory: Intentions, Perceived Behavioral

Control, Attitude, Subjective Norms. Which of the antecedents significantly predict behavior?

A. There are no antecedents that can significantly predict behavior.

B. Dependent: Behavior independent: Antecedents

C. NOMINAL

4. A multinational digital marketing company wants to determine the ICT competence of their agents

across two Regions: Singapore and India. “Is there a significant difference in the ICT competence of the

agents between Singapore and India Regions?

A. There is no significant difference in the ICT competence of the agents between the Singapore and
India regions.

B. IND- Agents of Singapore and India Regions DEPENDENT: Competence

C. INTERVAL

D. Paired T-TEST

E. Paired T Test should be used since we are interested in the difference between the ICT Competence
between Singapore and India.
