molledo

Hello, today I’m talking about Molledo.

Molledo is a Spanish town located in Cantabria, and it has 1495 inhabitants. There are 2 neighbourhoods inside
this village, which are ARCA and CACEO, both are situated in a high part of the village, so you have got to
climb a hill if you want to go there.

Molledo, with Barcena and Arenas de Iguña belong to the Iguña valley.

MY FAVOURITE PLACES OF MOLLEDO

La canalona: it’s a waterfall, which is located at the end of molledo and at the beginning of silio. It’s a place
where you can enjoy the views, because they are wonderful, and you can also have a bath. In summer is very
common to see young people here having a bath, eventhough there is a public swimming pool in molledo.

La bolera: it’s a place located in la bolera square. A lot of people practice bowling everyday and prepare
themselves for the matches. In summer are a lot of competitions where the champions of bowling compete to
win an award, that is most of the times money.

It’s a special place to me because I have played a lot there since I was a kid, and it was there where I met some
of my actual best friends. We used to play hide and seek a lot, or even football, but we never practised bowling.

MIGUEL DELIBES

The famous author Miguel Delibes, whose mother was born in Molledo, used to spend many summers of his
childhood in there, and he had a house there, which now belongs to his family, but you can still see the outside
of the house when you are walking on the street. He inspired himself with Molledo to write his famous novel
“El camino”. There is a literary route in the village where you can see the houses of the characters in the book.
The street where he had his house has now his name. And there is a statue of him in the village.

LA CASA DE LOS TIROS

In la casa de los tiros, which is in Caceo. The emperor Charles V, in his second travel to Spain, spent the night in
this house. He left a canyon because he had been treated very well. The canyon is still in the house as a memory
of him.

REGIONAL PARTIES

The regional parties of Molledo are from 5th to 11th of September, and they are in honour of la virgen del camino.
This parties were long ago very important for Cantabria, because people from all Cantabria went there to
celebrate.
