Thermostat Maintenance Guidelines

I. Functionality of thermostat:
Safe operation and service of life of a power transformer largely depend on safety and reliability of transformer
winding. One of main reasons for the transformer failing to operate improperly is insulation breakdown resulting from
that winding temperature exceeds insulation withstand temperature. The dry-type transformer temperature controller
(referred to as the thermostat) is an intelligent controller designed for safe operation of a dry-type transformer. The
thermostat utilizes the single-chip microcomputer-based technology to detect and display temperature rise of a
transformer through a platinum thermal resistor embedded in the dry-type transformer winding, with the ability to
automatically start and stop a cooling fan for forced air cooling so as to avoid or reduce the failures caused by a
overheated transformer and the ability to control over-temperature alarm and over-temperature tripping output so as to
ensure that the transformer operates in a safe state and therefore extend its service life.
II. Indication of malfunctioned thermostat
The thermostat has a malfunction detection function. If the sensor or the thermostat malfunctions, the thermostat’s
malfunction indicator lamp will light up withoutputabout malfunctioned relay, and the thermostat will beep. Please see
Appendix 1 below for common malfunctions and troubleshooting methods.
III. Considerations for thermostat or sensor replacement:
1. In the event of replacing a thermostat or sensor, a qualified operator is not allowed to operate until the transformer
is powered off and discharge is completed.
2. Qualified operator: for example: an engineer with a corresponding electrician qualification or a staff member of the
manufacturer who has sufficient knowledge of transformers and thermostats.
IV. Operation protection for thermostat:
1. The thermostat is an industrial instrument and able to work reliably for a long time. Dust shall be cleaned regularly
depending on site environment, if practical.
2. The thermostat shall be maintained based on a one-year cycle, if it is practical to further detect. Check that the
output contact points are normal. Manually start the fan to observe whether it can start properly. Enter Function Code 1012
to simulate the operations of fan, over temperature, malfunction contact output (note: Function Code 1012 does not support
to stimulate tripping). Please see Appendix 2 for 1012 simulation operations. Use the special high-accuracy resistor to
detect the temperature accuracy of the thermostat and confirm whether there is a deviation problem, as further detection.

Note: 1. In order to avoid accidental tripping, it is not allowed to stimulate over-temperature tripping upon detecting the output
state!
2.Models G and I do not have the function to stimulate malfunction output, meaning Steps 8 and 9 are not applicable.
3.All the parameters shown in the table are reference value and the specific setting value are subject to the product label.
