 Potion of land for mangoes =
 Total land for the three fruits = + + (01 Mark)
= (01 Mark)
= (01 Mark)
 Remaining portion of land = 1 − = (01 Mark)
Therefore, the fraction of the land remaining for oranges is (01 Mark)

2. (a) Mass of sand in tonnes delivered at the end of the journey

= 7.10 tonnes −210 (01 mark)
= 7.10 tonnes −0.21 tonnes (01 mark)
= (7.10 − 0.21) tonnes (01 mark)
= 6.89 tonnes (02 mark)

3. (a) Given perimeter of a square plots as 240m

x
Let be the length of one side of a square.
But P= + + + = 4 01 Mark
=4 01 Mark
→ 240 = 4 01 Mark
∴ = = 60 01 Mark
∴ The length of its side is 60 01 Mark

(b) (i) To draw shape of a figure described by a goat tied by a rope 7m long is a circle
with radius 7m which is;

7m
o Where O is center of a circle. ( )

(ii) To find area of a circle described by a goat above.

But = (01 Mark)
= × 7 × 7 = 154 ( Mark)
∴Area of land = 154 (01 Mark)

4. (a) Given length and width of a rectangular field as shown below:

( − 1)

( + 6)

To express perimeter, P in terms of

∴ P= 2 + 2 ( )
= 2( + ) = 2( + 6 + − 1) = 4 + 10 ( )
∴ = 4 + 10 ( )

(b) Given roots of a quadratic equation as =2 =3

To formulate the quadratic equation.
 Forming the factors
=2 →⇒ −2=0 (01 Mark)
=3→ ⇒ −3=0 (01 Mark)
Page 2 of 7
But a quadratic equation is the product of the two linear factors equated to zero.
. ( − 2)( − 3) = 0 (01 Mark)
To expand
( − 2)( − 3) ⇒ ( − 3) − 2( − 3) = 0 (01 Mark)
⇒ −3 −2 +6=0
⇒ −5 +6=0
∴ −5 +6=0 (01 Mark)

5. (a) Given that Hussein, Rajabu and Iddi shared amount of money in the ratio 2:3:4.
Also Rajabu’s share is 6900
Let be total amount of money = ( 01 Mark)
⇒ 6900 = . (01 Mark)
( )( )
∴ = = 20700/= ( 01 Mark)

 Hussein’s share = = (20700) = 4,600/= ( )

 Iddi’s share = = (20700) = 9,200/= ( )

∴ Hussein received Tsh 4,600/= and Idd Tsh 9,200/= ( )

(b) Given buying price Tsh 80,000/=

Selling price Tsh 96,000/= of wooden table.
(i) To find profit made.
But, profit made = selling price – buying price. (01 Mark)
= 96,000 – 80,000 ( )
= 16,000
∴ Profit made = Tsh 16,000/= (01 Mark)

(ii) To find percentage profit.

But, percentage profit = × 100% (01 Mark)

,
= ,
× 100% ( )

∴ Percentage profit = % (01 Mark)

6. (a) Given representing cost of 1 kg of onions.

representing cost of 1kg of potatoes.
(i) To formulate two linear equations from the given information of total cost.
+ 5 = 2,800
∴ (01 Mark)
2 + 5 = 3,600
(01 Mark)

Page 3 of 7
(ii) To solve for in the equations formulated in (i) above by any
method
+ 5 = 2,800

2 + 5 = 3,600
By Elimination method (A student can use any)
+ 5 = 2,800
− (01 Mark)
2 + 5 = 3,600
− = −800
∴ = (01 Mark)
2 + 5 = 2,800
Also
1 2 + 5 = 3,600
2 + 10 = 5,600

2 + 5 = 3,600
5 = 2000
= (01 Mark)
∴ = 800 = 400

(b) (ii) To find the slope of the line with equation + 2 = 6

To write the equation in standard form = +
∴ = −2 + 6 (01 Mark)
Compare = + , where is slope. ( )
∴ = −2 (01 Mark)
(ii) To draw the graph of the line + 2 = 6. by either using table of values or
intercepts (A student can decide any methods. Since + 2 = 6 is same as
= −2 + 6.

7. (a) To show that ° = 1 by laws exponents; we devide the same power.
= = ( )

∴ = ….. ()
× ×
But = =1×1×1=1 ( )
× ×

∴ = 1…… ( )
Equating eqn (i) and eqn (ii) we get:
= . Hence, shown. ( )
NOTE: A student can think of any power with base m having the same exponent
before dividing by itself.
(b) Given =
To re-write it in logarithmic form.
∴ = log ( )

8. (a) From the figure given in the question paper, the two similar right – angled
triangles are as shown below:
N

40˚ 40˚
P N P M

(b) (i) To find number of sides of a regular polygon having an interior angle 108°.
Since; exterior angle + interior angle = 180° (for regular polygon) ( )
⇒ + 108° = 180°
∴ = 180° − 108° = 72° ( )
°
But, = , where is number of sides ( )
°
⇒ = =5 ( )
°

∴ 5 ( )
(ii) A regular polygon with 5 sides is “PENTAGON” ( )

a= 6 km
C=?
( )
By Pythagoras theorem, =√ + ( )
Thus: = √6 + 8 ( )
Starting point
= √36 + 64 = √100 = 10 ( )
∴The man is 10 from his starting point ( )

(b) Given a ladder 5m long leaning against a vertical wall.

l = 5m ( )
Wall

a = 2.5m

Calculate angle ,
By definition of trigonometric ratios:
sin = ( )
.
⇒ sin = = 0.5 ( )
∴ = sin (0.5) = 30° ( )
∴ = 30° ( )

10. (a) Given heights of 10 students in a class

131, 144, 136, 130, 140, 138, 130, 141, 130, 135 in cm.
To identify number of shortest students.
∴ There were 3 shortest students whose heights were 130cm each.

(b) By Venn diagram, the given information is filled in.

( )

Participants ate fish

Participants ate Meat 25 25 35

Total similar participants = ( ∪ ) ( )

= 25 + 25 + 35 ( )
= 85 ( )

ALTERNATIVELY

Let ( ) = 50, ( ) = 60, ( ∩ ) = 25 ( )

Using formula:
( ∪ )= ( )+ ( )− ( ∩ ) ( )
= 50 + 60 − 25 ( )
= 110 − 25 ( )
= 85
∴ The total participants attended the seminar were 85 ( )
