A. General
(1) This CMM provides information on the AmSafe V23 seatbelt airbag system (herein
referred to as the system). Read this CMM in its entirety. Refer to the table of contents
for a list of topics in this CMM.
(2) Procedures in this CMM should be implemented into a maintenance program and
should be used by maintenance personnel for aircraft seating equipped with the system.
(3) This CMM applies to the components, aircraft owner/operator and aircraft on the title
page. Should the aircraft owner/operator change, the aircraft owner/operator should
contact AmSafe for the latest CMM and to obtain training (if necessary).

A. Description
(1) The system (Figure 1 thru Figure 7) provides seat occupants with protection from
serious head-impact injury during a survivable aircraft crash and enhances the seat
occupant’s ability to egress the aircraft. The system does not interface with any aircraft
systems, including the aircraft power supply. The system consists of the following
components that are described in subsequent paragraphs. No component in the system
is a line replaceable unit (LRU).

(a) The inflatable restraint system assembly assembly consists of two primary
subassemblies the inflatable connector half assembly and the inflatable buckle
half assembly. Other information about the inflatable restraint system
assembly is in Table 2

(b) The inflatable connector half assembly (Figure 8) consists of an end fitting plate
assembly, webbing, fabric hose subassembly, airbag and connector assembly.
The end fitting plate assembly attaches to the seat or aircraft structure. The
fabric hose subassembly connects to a 45° fitting assembly or 90° fitting
assembly that connects to the inflator assembly. The airbag, fabric hose
subassembly and webbing are contained in a cover with a tear seam that opens
when the EMA activates the system and gas flows from the inflator assembly

the inflatable restraint system assembly is snug by pulling on the free end of
the webbing.
(b) (Kit assembly P/Ns 510274 and 510509) To release, lift the metal latch on the
buckle and remove the connector from the buckle. (The system is not
deactivated when the connector subassembly is disconnected from the buckle
assembly.
(c) To release, depress the button on the buckle and remove the connector from
the buckle. (The system is deactivated when the connector subassembly is
disconnected from the buckle assembly.)
(d) (Except kit assembly P/N 511347) The inflatable shoulder harness assembly
fastens to the inflatable connector half assembly by slipping the connector over

between the two link connectors on the inflatable shoulder harness
assembly (Figure 13).
4 Route the connector of the lap belt link half assembly through the
connectors of the inflatable shoulder harness assembly, crotch strap
assembly and into the latch assembly on the lap belt buckle half
assembly. Move the latch down until it snaps into place.
5 Use the adjuster to adjust the length of the inflatable shoulder harness
assembly, lap belt assembly and crotch strap assembly for a snug fit.

deactivate the system when used for persons of extraordinary stature.

PARTS LIST.) THE BELT EXTENDER WILL NOT DEACTIVATE THE

(7) Lap-Held Children

(a) The system is not operationally-restricted for lap-held children during taxi,
take-off, landing and/or in-flight operation on United States-registered aircraft.
(b) The extension assembly must not be used as part of a lap-held child restraint
system when the aircraft is operating under United States (FAA) operating
rules.
NOTE: AmSafe does not recommend allowing lap-held children with any type
of restraint system. Allowing lap-held children is strictly the decision
and responsibility of the aircraft operator.

D. Course of Action for System Anomalies
WARNNG: IN THE CASE OF A SYSTEM DEPLOYMENT, DO NOT USE ANY SEAT WITH A
SYSTEM SHARING THE SAME EMA AS THE DEPLOYED SYSTEM. REMOVE AND
RETURN ALL COMPONENTS TO AMSAFE.
(1) In the rare case of an airbag deployment, do not use the seat with the deployed airbag
or any seat with an airbag that is controlled by the same EMA as that of the deployed
airbag. The seats must immediately become inoperable and unavailable for use, even if
the airbags in other seat positions did not deploy.
(2) Immediately remove and replace the system on the seat with the deployed airbag and
any seat with an airbag that is controlled by the same EMA as that of the deployed
airbag. (Refer to Removal and Replacement.)
(3) Do not keep or reuse components. Immediately return all components to AmSafe.
(Refer to Storage.) Contact AmSafe Customer Service to submit a purchase order for
replacement components.
(4) Contact AmSafe Customer Service and provide information on:
(a) Incident information:
1 Incident date, time and location and aircraft information (e.g., make
and model).
2 Names and contact information of affected individuals, their seat
position and injury claims.
3 Names and contact information of personnel (e.g., witnesses, airline
personnel, flight personnel, maintenance personnel, FAA on-site
personnel, original equipment manufacturer (OEM) on-site personnel
and National Transportation Safety Board (NTSB) on-site personnel).
(b) System information:
1 When the airbag deployment occurred (e.g., in-flight, during
maintenance or during a diagnostic check).
2 System status (e.g., the restraint was buckled or unbuckled).
3 Damage to components (e.g., structures or in-flight entertainment).
4 Date, result and records of the last diagnostic test.

the seat is not installed on the aircraft.
(5) Check the SDT’s battery by turning the ON/OFF switch to ON. The SDT’s battery LED
illuminates green for acceptable power and red (for a low battery) or not illuminated
(for a dead battery).
(a) If the SDT’s battery LED illuminates green, turn the SDT OFF and proceed to
step (6).
CAUTION: When replacing the SDT’s battery, do not allow debris or foreign
objects in the open battery compartment.
(b) If the SDT’s battery LED illuminates red or is not illuminated, remove the cover
on the back of the SDT, replace the battery and retest.
(6) Confirm all seat positions to be tested are unbuckled.
CAUTION: Disconnect the SDT immediately after testing. Do not leave the SDT connected
to the EMA; the SDT may drain the EMA’s battery.

(8) Remove the cap on the diagnostic connector (located on the interface cable assembly)
and connect the SDT.
(9) Turn the SDT on. The battery LED should illuminate green, the sensor LED should
illuminate red and the inflator LED should illuminate red.
(10) Buckle the seatbelt. All system validation LEDs should illuminate green for a “pass”
condition. If one or more LEDs illuminate red, the system failed the test.
(a) If the test fails, check all connections and retest. Remove and replace the failed
component (indicated on SDT) until a “pass” condition is met. Remove and

replace components following the procedures in Removal and Replacement.

Retest after replacing each component. Remove and replace as follows:
1 Battery LED – remove and replace the EMA.
2 Sensor LED – remove and replace the EMA.
3 Inflator LED – remove and replace the inflator interface cable and the
inflator assembly.
(b) If a fail condition exists after replacing the EMA, inflator interface cable, or
inflator assembly, replace the interface cable assembly and retest. Remove and
replace components following the procedures in Removal and Replacement.
(11) Turn the SDT off.
(12) Unbuckle the seatbelt.
(13) Repeat steps (6) - (12) for the next seat position.
CAUTION: Disconnect the SDT immediately after testing. Do not leave the SDT
connected to the EMA; the SDT may drain the EMA’s battery.
(14) Disconnect the SDT from the diagnostic connector and replace the cap on the diagnostic
connector.

A. Description
(1) Cleaning is performed for passenger satisfaction and to prevent debris that could
interfere with system operation, shorten the life of the system or cause metal corrosion.

B. Personnel, Equipment and Materials
(1) Personnel should ensure components are visually examined and cleaned as required.
When the system is properly installed there is no risk or hazard to maintenance
personnel performing cleaning.
(2) Use the following equipment and materials as required. Equivalent alternatives are
permitted.
 Warm water in a spill-resistant container
 Soft, lint-free cloth
 Sponge or soft brush
 Mild soap (e.g., liquid dishwater soap or laundry detergent)
 Isopropyl alcohol (refer to the manufacturer’s SDS).
 Safety glasses

C. Procedure
(1) Visually examine the webbing, airbag cover and the visible portion of the fabric hose
subassembly for debris. Follow the below procedure if cleaning is required.
(a) Cover metal components with cloth.
CAUTION: Do not machine-wash, dry-clean or immerse in water.
Excessive moisture may damage components and may cause
components to fail. Excessive moisture causes webbing to
shrink, significantly changing its performance characteristics.
CAUTION: Do not use soap or water on metal components.
CAUTION: Test cleaning materials on hidden areas to prevent damage to
finishes or leather and color transfer.
1 Use warm water and mild soap to produce minimal suds. Use only
enough cleaning material to produce minimal suds.
2 Apply the cleaning solution with a damp cloth. Gentle scrubbing with a
soft brush is allowed.
3 Do not leave residue on cleaned areas. If necessary, rinse with clear
water and a damp cloth.

CAUTION: Do not dry in sunlight or near any source of heat.

(b) Air dry the inflatable restraint system assembly in a well-ventilated area.
WARNING: IF USING ISOPROPYL ALCOHOL, REFER TO THE SDS FROM THE
MANUFACTURER.
CAUTION: Do not use isopropyl alcohol on the webbing, airbag cover or fabric hose
subassembly.
CAUTION: Do not immerse in isopropyl alcohol. Excessive moisture may damage
components and may cause components to fail. Excessive moisture causes
webbing to shrink, significantly changing its performance characteristics.
CAUTION: Test cleaning materials on hidden areas to prevent damage to finishes or
leather and color transfer.
(2) Visually examine the inflatable restraint system assembly hardware and ensure
components are free of debris. If necessary, clean the hardware with a cloth moistened
with isopropyl alcohol.
(3) Visually examine the inflator assembly and interface cable assembly and LRU/inflator
cable interface (some systems) for dirt and debris. Follow the below procedure if
cleaning is required.
(a) Cover the EMA pigtail (Figure 4001) with cloth.

(b) Hand-wash the inflator assembly and interface cable assembly and LRU/inflator
cable interface (some systems). Use cold water and mild soap to produce

(1) Inspection/check ensures issues related to wear or damage are addressed.

(1) Continued or renewed airworthiness of the system is to be determined by means of an
inspection and may only be performed by the manufacturer or by agencies specially
approved by the aviation authorities. Inspection/check should be performed by
maintenance personnel. No special tools or equipment are required.

C. Intervals
(1) Inspection/check should be performed:
(a) A minimum of every 1000 flight hours or 12 months (whichever occurs first).
(b) On-condition (during system maintenance).
(c) Concurrently with the airworthiness inspection of the aircraft.
(d) Concurrently with any unscheduled inspection of aircraft involved in an
accident/incident.
(e) When a component has damage; refer to section D steps (3) - (11).
(f) Upon expiration of the storage/service life as defined in the following sections.

(3) Check the webbing for: cut or worn edges, damaged stitching, broken threads and holes
or tears; excessive wear, chafe marks or fraying; and illegible labels.
NOTE: Frayed webbing is broken filaments in either the warp (longitudinal) yarns or
the weft (transverse) yarns.
(a) Slight wear is permitted.
(b) A limited amount of fraying will retain sufficient strength necessary to meet the
required strength.
(c) Remove and replace the component if any of the following conditions are
observed.
1 Wear that progressed to cut or worn edges or illegible labels.
2 Webbing is cut or torn from the edge.
3 Frayed webbing obscures the identity of any yarn (i.e., the webbing
looks fuzzy) when viewed from a distance of about 8 inches.
4 Fraying exceeds 10 percent of the width of the webbing or 8 inches in
length.
5 Webbing is sufficiently frayed or distorted to cause improper
operation of a component.

6 Webbing has more than 15 broken yarns in locations other than the
edge.
7 The webbing has 15 or more torn stitches.
8 Labels are illegible.
(4) Check the system for dirt, oil, grease or other unwanted particles or substances and
clean if necessary. (Refer to Cleaning.)
(5) Check hardware (e.g., attachment points, buckle assembly or connector subassembly)
for cracks, dents, corrosion (typically light surface corrosion), burrs or nicks.
(a) Cracks, dents or corrosion must not affect the function of any component.
(b) If any cracks are visible or the component cannot be operated, remove and
replace the component.
(c) Dents must not affect the function of any component and must not damage the
finish.
(d) Burrs or nicks raised above the surface must not prevent components from
properly fitting together or operating.
(6) Check the airbag cover for damaged or unraveled stitching, broken fabric threads, holes
or tears, holes in the airbag cover or tear-away seam, excessive chafe marks or wear or
fraying, broken end-tacking stitching on the airbag cover connector, visible airbag and
illegible labels.
(a) Slight wear of the airbag cover is permitted.
(b) Remove and replace the component if any of the following conditions are
observed.
1 Excessive wear (i.e., cut or worn edges or lettering on labels is worn
off).
2 Any fabric is cut or torn from the edge.
3 Markings are not legible.
4 Any holes or tears in the airbag cover or its tear-away seam.
5 Cover end-tacking stitches (i.e., "O" or "V" stitching and horizontal
stitching at connector end) are undone or broken.
6 Compromised cover end-tacking stitches (i.e., airbag protrudes from
the airbag cover at the hose end).
(7) Check the fabric hose subassembly and interface cable assembly and LRU/inflator cable
interface (some systems) for fraying or thinning of material; abrasions, holes, excessive
wear or tears; or evidence of other degradation or excessive wear. Remove and replace
the inflatable connector half assembly if there is evidence of degradation or excessive
wear.
(8) Check the interface cable assembly and LRU/inflator cable interface (some systems) for
damaged cables or evidence of damage; broken or worn cable ties; exposed, sharp seat
edges; or tight cable connections.
(a) Replace cables that show significant signs of fraying or excessive wear.
(b) Replace worn or missing cable ties.

(c) Tighten or reseat connectors.

(d) Cover any exposed, sharp seat edges per the seat OEM’s instructions.
(9) Check the inflator assembly for loose hardware and loose connections (e.g., loose squib
connector subassembly).
(a) Tighten the bracket hardware following the seat OEM’s instructions.
(b) Secure the squib connector subassembly or loose hardware and connections.
NOTE: It is normal for the inflator assembly may have rust (typically light
surface corrosion). There is no requirement to remove and replace a
rusted inflator assembly.
(10) Check the SDT for loose connections or connectors, missing or broken hardware (e.g.,
LEDs and ON/OFF switch) and the date for its annual calibration (on the back of the
SDT). Return the SDT to AmSafe (refer to Storage).
(11) Check the EMA for a damaged housing (e.g., cracks) or missing or illegible labels.

E. Service Life, Storage Life and Refurbishment
(1) Refer to Removal and Replacement to remove and replace components. Refer to
Storage to dispose or return components.
(2) EMA
(a) Refurbishment
1 The EMA battery is not user-replaceable. The battery service life is
determined based on the following refurbishment requirements.
2 To determine when to refurbish the EMA, check the date of
manufacture (DOM) or expiration date on the EMA label (Figure 5002).
The label on a new EMA shows only the DOM; the label on a
refurbished EMA may show the ODM and the expiration date (MMYY).
3 Return the EMA to AmSafe for refurbishment when the total sum of
the years in storage and the years in service reaches seven (7) years
calculated from the DOM.
4 After refurbishment the EMA may be stored or placed in service for an
additional seven (7) years.

(b) Condemnation
1 To determine when to condemn the EMA, check the DOM or
expiration date on the EMA label (Figure 5002). The label on a new
EMA shows only the DOM; the label on a refurbished EMA may show
the original DOM and the expiration date (MMYY).
2 Remove and return the EMA to AmSafe when the total sum of the
years in storage and the years in service (i.e., the service life) reaches
14 years calculated from the DOM. The 14 years of service life includes
refurbishing the EMA at 7 years calculated from the DOM.
(a) Check the DOM on the inflator assembly label (Figure 5003).

A. Description
(1) Removal and replacement procedures provide instructions to safely remove and replace
the system (1-205) or its components.
(2) Contact for after-hours aircraft on ground (AOG): 602-432-6064.

B. Personnel, Equipment and Materials
(1) Trained personnel should perform removal and replacement.
(2) Use the following equipment and materials as required.
NOTE: Equivalent alternatives are permitted.
 Standard aviation tools
 Seat OEM’s installation documents and drawings
 Safety glasses
 Thread-locking compound (Loctite 242)
 Antistatic bag
 Safety tie

C. Removal
(1) Perform the following steps to accomplish removal.
(a) Read all removal procedures. Step (2).
(b) Ensure the system (1-205) is unbuckled, the buckle assembly and connector
subassembly remain separated and the cable tie (485) and caution tag (475,
480, 610) are secured to the inflatable connector half assembly (375-470),
inflatable restraint system assembly (245, 250) or inflatable shoulder harness
assembly (490-605). Step (3).
(c) Verify the system’s (1-205) condition and note part numbers. Step (4).
(d) Review documents and/or drawings. Step (5).
(e) Isolate the power source, which is the EMA (865) from the inflator assembly
(740-760). Step (6).
(f) Inflator assembly (740, 745): Remove the fabric hose subassembly from the
inflator assembly (740, 745). Step (7).
(g) (Kit assembly P/N 510274) Remove the inflator assembly (750) from the fabric
hose subassembly. Step (8).

(h) (All except kit assembly P/N 510274) Remove the fitting assembly (765-785)
from the inflator assembly (750-760) and remove the fabric hose subassembly
from the fitting assembly (765-785). Step (9).
(i) Cap or plug the opening on the fabric hose subassembly to prevent debris
entry. Step (10).
(j) Remove the inflator assembly (740-760) from the seat or aircraft structure by
loosening its mounting hardware and removing the inflator assembly (740-
760). Step (11).
(k) (All except kit assembly P/Ns 510297 and 511670) Remove the inflatable
shoulder harness assembly (490-605), inflatable connector half assembly (375-
470) and the inflatable buckle half assembly (635-720). Step (12).
(l) (Kit assembly P/Ns 510297 and 511670) Remove the inflatable shoulder
harness assembly (245, 250, 490, 495), the crotch strap assembly (625) and lap
belt assembly (630). Step (13).
(m) Remove the EMA (865). Step (14).
(n) (All kit assemblies) Remove the interface cable assembly (805-850). Step (15).
(o) (Kit assembly P/Ns 510274 and 510509) Remove the LRU/inflator cable
interface (795, 800). Step (16).
(2) Read all removal procedures.
 Kit assembly P/Ns 509423, 509818, 509969, 509992, 511347, 511348 and
511352, adhere to the following warnings:
WARNING: ENSURE THE INFLATABLE CONNECTOR HALF ASSEMBLY (375-470)
AND THE INFLATABLE BUCKLE HALF ASSEMBLY (635-720) ARE
UNBUCKLED FOR EACH SEAT POSITION AND REMAIN SEPARATED TO
MINIMIZE THE POTENTIAL OF INJURY TO PEOPLE OR DAMAGE TO
EQUIPMENT IN THE EVENT OF AN UNINTENTIONAL AIRBAG
DEPLOYMENT.
ASSEMBLY (375-470) AND THE INFLATABLE BUCKLE HALF ASSEMBLY
(635-720) DURING HANDLING, REMOVAL OR REPLACEMENT COULD
CAUSE THE AIRBAG TO DEPLOY. THE CABLE TIE (485) AND CAUTION
TAG (475) PREVENT BUCKLING OF THE INFLATABLE CONNECTOR
HALF ASSEMBLY (375-470) AND THE INFLATABLE BUCKLE HALF
ASSEMBLY (635-720). THE CABLE TIE (485) AND CAUTION TAG (475)
ON THE INFLATABLE CONNECTOR HALF ASSEMBLY (375-470) AND
THE INFLATABLE BUCKLE HALF ASSEMBLY (635-720) MUST NOT BE
PERMANENTLY REMOVED UNTIL THE SYSTEM (1-205) IS INTEGRATED
INTO THE SEAT AND THE SEAT IS INSTALLED IN THE AIRCRAFT.
WARNING: THE ONLY TIME THE INFLATABLE CONNECTOR HALF ASSEMBLY (375-
470) AND INFLATABLE BUCKLE HALF ASSEMBLY (635-720) SHOULD BE
BUCKLED IS WHEN AN OCCUPANT IS IN THE SEAT WITH THE
INTENTION OF FLIGHT.
WARNING: ALWAYS DISCONNECT THE FEMALE P3 AND P4 CONNECTORS ON THE
INTERFACE CABLE ASSEMBLY (805-850) FOR EACH SEAT POSITION

NOTE: The cable tie (485) and caution tag (475, 480, 610) are not present if the
inflatable connector half assembly (375-470), inflatable restraint system
assembly (245, 250) or inflatable shoulder harness assembly (245, 250, 490-
605) was previously installed.
(4) Verify the system’s (1-205) condition and note part numbers.
(a) Examine the system (1-205) for anomalies and end of service life.
1 EMA (865): look for damage to pins, damage to housing (e.g., cracks),
missing or illegible labels, or evidence of dropping or mishandling (e.g.,
dents, nicks and cuts). Check the service life and if necessary: remove
and refurbish the EMA (865) after 7 years from DOM; remove and
replace the EMA (865) after 14 years total service life.
2 Inflator assembly (740-760): look for loose hardware or connections
(e.g., a loose squib connector subassembly) and an improperly routed
or secured fabric hose subassembly. Check the service life (10 years
from the DOM) and remove and replace if necessary.
3 Fabric hose subassembly: look for holes, fraying, tears, pinching or
more than two, 90-degree twists.
4 Interface cable assembly (805-850) and connector subassembly or
LRU/inflator cable interface (795, 800): look for fraying, tears,
pinching, missing cable ties, exposed or sharp seat edges, tight
connections, damaged yellow connectors and the presence of an x-
tree clip (725).
5 Seatbelt hardware (i.e., end fittings, buckle assembly and connector
subassembly): look for cracks, dents or corrosion.
(b) Perform a system diagnostic check if one is due. (Refer to Testing and Fault
Isolation.)
(5) Review documents and/or drawings.
(a) Review the seat OEM’s installation documents and/or drawings.
(b) Note part numbers for use during replacement.
(c) Kit assembly P/N 510274:
1 Inflator assembly (750): note position and orientation, mounting
hardware and mounting to the seat or aircraft structure.
2 Fabric hose subassembly: note hardware and connections such as
connections to the inflator assembly (750).
NOTE: Hose routing is defined in the seat OEM’s documents or drawings.
(d) All except kit assembly P/N 510274:
1 Inflator assembly (740-760): note position and orientation, mounting
hardware, mounting to the seat or aircraft structure and the
orientation of the fitting assembly (765, 770, 775, 780 or 785).
2 Fabric hose subassembly: note hardware and connections such as
connections to the fitting assembly (765, 770, 775, 780 or 785).

(e) Interface cable assembly (805-850) and LRU/inflator cable interface (795, 800):
note location and method of securing to the seat, cable hardware such as the x-
tree clip (725) and cable connections such as connections to the EMA (865)
and/or the inflatable buckle half assembly (635-720).
(f) EMA (865): note position (aircraft forward), mounting hardware and mounting
to the seat frame.
(6) Isolate the power source, which is the EMA (865) from the inflator assembly (740-760).
NOTE: The EMA (865) is the power source.
(a) All except kit assembly P/Ns 510297 and 511670:
1 Locate the P3 and P4 connectors on the interface cable assembly (805-
815, 840-850) (Figure 12001). Disconnect the connectors by sliding the
red tab backwards to the unlocked position, depressing the yellow tab
and pulling the connectors apart (Figure 12002). If the connectors are
difficult to access, perform step 2 first and then perform step 1.

(b) Secure the fabric hose subassembly to the seat or aircraft structure with

perform this step when the inflator assembly (750-760) is in its mounting
bracket follow step 1-step 3.

2 Using a wrench on the fitting assembly (765-785) and soft-jaw pliers
on the inflator assembly (750-760), torque the fitting assembly (765-
785) onto the inflator assembly (750) 60±10 in-lb.
3 Replace the inflator assembly (750-760) within its mounting bracket.
Ensure the fabric hose subassembly is routed through the seat
structure such that there are no twists, no bends within 2 inches of
the fitting and no more than two, 90° bends.
(i) Secure the inflator assembly (750-760) within its mounting bracket such that
the inflator assembly (750-760) cannot move. Torque the mounting bracket
hardware in accordance with the seat OEM's requirements.
(8) Connect squib connector subassembly to inflator assembly (750-760).
(a) (All except kit assembly P/Ns 510274, 510297, 510509 and 511670) Seat the
squib connector subassembly on the connector subassembly from the
inflatable buckle half assembly (635-720) to the inflator assembly (750, 760)
until the squib connector subassembly locks into place (Figure 12030).
(b) (Kit assembly P/Ns 510274 and 510509) Seat the squib connector subassembly
on the LRU/inflator cable interface (795, 800) to the inflator assembly (750,
760) until the squib connector subassembly locks into place (Figure 12030).
CAUTION: (Kit assembly P/Ns 510297 and 511670) Ensure an antistatic bag is
secured over the 4-pin connector (P2) of the interface cable assembly
(820-835) prior to connecting the squib connector subassembly to the
inflator assembly (750, 755).
(c) (Kit assembly P/Ns 510297 and 511670) Seat the squib connector subassembly
on the interface cable assembly (820-835) to the inflator assembly (750, 755)
until the squib connector subassembly locks into place (Figure 12030).

(d) Connect the 4-pin connector (P2) to the EMA (865) ensuring there is no
resistance. If this connection is a blind connection or is difficult to make and a
proper connection cannot be assured follow step 1 – step 3.
1 (All except kit assembly P/Ns 510297 and 511670) Ensure the female
P3 and P4 connectors on the interface cable assembly (805-815, 840-
850) and LRU/inflator cable interface (795, 800) are disconnected. If
they are connected, disconnect by sliding the red tab on the connector
backwards to the unlocked position, depressing the yellow tab and
then pulling the connectors apart.
2 Remove the EMA (865) for clear visual access, connect the 4-pin
connector (P2) to the EMA (865) ensuring there is no resistance.
3 Secure the EMA (865) to the EMA bracket.

the 4-pin connector (P2) to the EMA (865) is the last electrical
connection, proceded to step (12).

UN (United Nations) tested and marked under UN
performance oriented packing (POP).

5 Use the original packaging if it is available and in a useable condition

or use new packaging of the same quality and size that conforms to
UN POP.
6 Use a minimum of three inches of cushioning material to prevent the
component from shifting in the packaging.
7 Ensure the label is legible, durable, and located and secured such that
it is will not be obstructed or lost when the package is shipped, closed
or opened. Ensure the label contains the following items.
 Customer address
 AmSafe’s shipping address
 RMA number
 Hazmat labels per 49 CFR §172.400 and 49 CFR §172.301
 Labels required by country of shipping origin
(c) Storage
1 Store the inflator assembly in its original packaging material.
WARNING: DO NOT STORE THE INFLATOR ASSEMBLY WITH A FITTING
ASSEMBLY ATTACHED. IF THE INFLATOR ASSEMBLY IS
DEPLOYED, INJURY TO PEOPLE OR DAMAGE TO EQUIPMENT
MAY OCCUR.
2 Do not store the inflator assembly with the fitting assembly attached.
WARNING: KEEP THE INFLATOR ASSEMBLY AWAY FROM SOURCES OF
THERMAL IGNITION. IGNITION MAY OCCUR IF THESE
SOURCES ARE PRESENT AND MAY RESULT IN DEATH OR
INJURY TO PEOPLE OR DAMAGE TO EQUIPMENT. AN
INFLATOR ASSEMBLY’S AUTOGAS RELEASE IS AT
APPROXIMATELY 239°F (115°C).
3 Store the inflator assembly so that it is protected from excessive
EMI/RFI/ESD.
4 Store the inflator assembly away from open flames.
NOTE: Failure to comply with all relevant dangerous goods
regulations regarding the system may result in civil or
criminal penalties.
5 Store the inflator assembly in cool and dry environment at ambient
temperature. Do not store the inflator assembly in environments that
exceed -40-185°F (-40-85°C).
6 Store the inflator assembly so that it is protected from sunlight, dust,
moisture, and other contamination.
7 The maximum storage period is 10 years calculated from the date of
manufacture.

DEATH OR INJURY TO PEOPLE OR DAMAGE TO EQUIPMENT

AMSAFE FOR DISPOSAL OR DELIVER INFLATOR ASSEMBLIES
TO A LICENSED DISPOSAL FACILITY.
1 Return the inflator assembly to AmSafe.
NOTE: AmSafe recommends returning the inflator assembly to
AmSafe for proper disposal regardless if the inflator assembly
was deployed or not deployed.
(6) SDT
(a) Handling
1 When handling, protect the SDT from shock, vibration, impact loading,
electrical or static discharge and temperature extremes.
(b) Returning for Calibration
1 Return the SDT to AmSafe for calibration by contacting Customer
Service and providing the SDT’s serial number, PO number, shipping
method (i.e., address and account number) and payment method.

disconnecting the 4-pin connector (P2) on the interface cable assembly from
the EMA (Figure 15016). Cover the 4-pin connector (P2)with an antistatic bag.

(c) (Kit assembly P/Ns 509423, 509818, 509969, 509992, 511347, 511348 and
511352) Ensure the system is not accidentally enabled and protect the buckle
from damage by folding the inflatable buckle half assembly on itself and
securing it in protective packaging (e.g., bubble wrap) (to prevent it from
unraveling).
(d) Ensure the inflatable connector half assembly and the inflatable buckle half
assembly are unbuckled and remain separated.
(e) Ensure the cable tie and caution tag are secured to the connector on the
inflatable connector half assembly to prevent buckling of the inflatable
connector half assembly and inflatable buckle half assembly.
(f) Any protective covering applied to the seat or monument (to prevent scratches
or marring) should be applied to the inflatable connector half assembly and
inflatable buckle half assembly to protect against accidental buckling due to
proximity.
