Narrative Writing: Journal Entry

Directions: Use your organizer to write a journal entry from Molly Whuppie’s point of view
narrating her experience with stealing the giant’s purse for the king. Be sure to keep it in first
person and include Molly’s thoughts and feelings throughout the event, as well as dialogue.
Separate the beginning, middle, and end, as this organizer directs. Check the anchor chart below
for criteria for success.

Beginning: The king sends Molly on her quest to steal the giant’s purse.
I was challenged by the king to steal the purse from the Giant's house. “But why do I need to
steal it” I said I was so worried. “Because if you do it Molly, I will let your second sister get
married” the king said. The giant had a big temper. But why am I still doing it, because my sister
wanted to get married to the king’s son.

Middle: Molly sneaks into the giant’s house and steals the purse as he sleeps.
I was sneaking to the giant’s room to steal the purse but the giant was asleep. But the giant
purse was under the pillow so I took out the purse slowly so the giant won’t hear it, So I got the
purse then the giant woke up after I escaped and I had to run then I jumped over the cliff then
the giant shouted at molly to get back here then i got the purse for the king.

End: Molly succeeds and presents the purse to the king.

I had brought the purse to the king then the king was delighted to see me with the giant’s purse
so the king said “Thank you for the purse now your second sister can get married by the second
son”. Then I was happy that my sister can get married to the second son of the kings. Then my
sisters got married by the king's sons and I got married too and the giant was so mad he lost his
sword and purse.
