CHAPTER III

METHODOLOGY

RESEARCH DESIGN

This study used the descriptive correlational method of research. Descriptive correlational method of
research is a type of research design that tries to explain therelationship between two or more variables
without making any claims about cause and effect. It includes collecting and analyzing data on at least
two variables to see if there is a link between them (questionpro.com).

A survey using checklist was used to find out the Influence of Facebook in Academic Performances of
SHS Learners of Kirayan National High School S. Y. 2023-2024.

This study was conducted at Kirayan National High School, specifically at the Senior High School building
situated at Barangay Naulid, Miagao, Iloilo. Kirayan National High School is surrounded by agricultural
land specifically planted with rice.

Approximately five kilometers away from Miagao Town Plaza. The Senior High School currently has two
(2) strands; The Humanities and Social Sciences Strand and the Technical Vocational Livelihood Strand.
At present there are eight teachers in Senior High School.

RESPONDENTS OF THE STUDY


The respondents of the study were the fifty (50) Humanities and Social Sciences (HUMSS)and Technical
Vocational Livelihood(TVL). Senior High School learners of Kirayan National High School S. Y. 2022-2023.

They were purposively chosen as respondents of the study. Respondents were from both the Grade 11
learners of the Humanities and Social Sciences and Technical Vocational Livelihood. Thirty-two (32)
respondents from Grade 11 HUMSS and eighteen (18) from Grade 11- TLl. They all met the requirements
needed by the researchers. The fifty (50) respondents were purposively chosen for the reason that all of
them have accounts across different social media platforms which was necessary for the purpose of this
study.

DATA RESEARCH INSTRUMENT


To gather necessary data to find the effects of Facebook in Academic Performances of SHS learners of
Kirayan National High School, , a 20 item check list was utilized.
For purpose of scoring, numerical weights with corresponding descriptions were assigned.

4. Agree

5 Strongly Agree

For the purpose of interpretation on the Effects of Facebook in Academic Performances of SHS learners,
numerical weights with corresponding descriptions were assigned.

Scale. Description

0.1-1.0 Very Low Affection


1.1-2.0 Low Affection

2.1-3.0 Moderate Affection

3.1-4.0. High Affection

4.1-5.0 Very High Affection

DATA GATHERING PROCEDURE

In order to conduct the study among the Humanities and Social Sciences and Techinal Vocational
Livelihood learners of Kirayan National High School, the researchers prepared a letter requesting for the
approval of Teacher in Charge. When the permission was granted, the instruments were distributed by
the researchers to the respondents. The researchers explained the purpose of the study and the manner
of answering the checklist instrument.

The data that were gathered for this investigation were encoded, categorized, tabulated,interpreted
using SPSS.

DATA ANALYSIS PROCEDURE

The data that were gathered in this study was subjected by computing, analyzing and interpreting
results through SPSS. The mean was used to determine the average result or checklist of the Facbbok's
effect to the Acedemic Performances of SHS learners.

DESCRIPTIVE ANALYSIS
Is a sort of data research that aids describing, demonstrating, or helpfully summarizing data points so
those patterns may develop that satisfy all of the
conditions of the data (QuestionPro 2023).

Mean. Mean scores was used to describe the Facebook ’s effects in the Acedemic Performances of SHS
learners of Kirayan National High School at home and at school.

INFERENTIAL STATISTICS
Is a way of making inferences about populations based on samples (questionpro.com).

t-test. t-test for independent sample was used to find out the significant difference of the Facebook s
effects in the Academic Performances of SHS learners of Kirayan National High School .

Pearsons’ r. The Pearsons’ r was used to determine if there is or no significant relationship that exist
between Humanities and Social Sciences
learners’ interpersonal skills at home and at school.
All statistical computations were usually compute with a level of significant
set of 0.05 alpha.
