Create a Punch List Item (Mobile)

In this video, you’ll learn how to create a punch list item on your iOS mobile device. While you
can also create a punch list item from Procore’s web application, we recommend using the
mobile application to easily and efficiently create items while on the jobsite.

As your project nears completion, you’ll want to ensure that all performed work complies to
standards of quality and safety. When you observe issues that must be addressed before the
project’s official close, you can create a punch list item to document, assign, and track an
outstanding issue.

Let’s say, while walking the jobsite, you notice that several electrical access panels are missing.
To create a new punch list item, you have a few options: you can navigate to the Punch List
tool on your iOS mobile device and tap the plus icon. From here you can either manually input
the punch item, or use Quick Capture. The Quick Capture allows you to take a short video of the
issue and speak to describe it. For example, ‘Missing Electrical Access Panel’. Procore will
automatically transcribe what you’ve said and fill the Title and Description fields. From there,
you can add a Location, Linked Drawing, Trade, Assignees, and Type. The Punch Item
Manager and Final Approver have been assigned to me, since I’m the creator.

The other way to create a Punch Item is to navigate to the Drawings tool, select the drawing to
which you want to add a punch list item, select the punch pin from the markup toolbar and tap
the location where you want to add the item.

Both options will bring you to this menu, where you have the option to Create a Punch Item
Without a Template or tap the appropriate category to select an existing Punch List Template.
While Procore provides a list of categories and templates at the Company level, these can be
customized at both the Company and Project level. By including default information, these
templates help standardize data entry for common punch list items and save you time when
logging recurring issues on the jobsite. It’s important to note that while these punch list item
templates are created on Procore’s web application, they are only available for use on Procore’s
mobile app.

Since we’ve noticed a recurring issue on our jobsite, we’ll use a template. Tap the Electrical
category and select Access Panel Missing/Damage.

As you can see, you can easily take a photo or add any relevant attachments. Because this
form pulls from a template, it will auto-populate certain fields, which you can edit as necessary.
The item’s ‘Due Date’ is also automatically set to three days after its creation. This is a default
setting that can be configured in the Punch List tool’s project level settings.

Since there is not a default Punch Item Manager or Final Approver, I, the creator, have been
automatically listed. Tap into each field to add the appropriate team member.

Then you’ll want to assign the punch item. Note, you can select multiple assignees. Then add
any distribution members you want included on this punch item.

Next, you can add a relevant Location, edit the item’s default trade and select an associated
Type. Then you can select a priority and decide if you want this item to be private, where it
would only be visible to the item's creator, assignee, distribution list members, and Admin users.
You can also include a Description of the item.

When you’re finished, tap Save to create your punch list item. You can tap the item to view, edit,
or send a PDF of the item to team members with your preferred application.

The status of your new punch list item will be set to ‘Draft’ until you send the item to the Punch
Manager, who will review and assign the item. Your new punch list item will also appear in the
Punch List tool’s display table. From here, you can tap the item to view, edit, or share the item
with key stakeholders. You can also send the item to the Punch Item Manager here.

Thanks for watching!
