Title: Effect of the internet on the mental well-being of youth.

Abstract: The pervasiveness of the internet in India has brought both ease and unintended
consequences, particularly among young adults who are prone to excessive phone use
and digital dependency (Chóliz M., 2012). While the internet undeniably facilitates
work and communication, it also presents a potential cost to mental well-being. This
study investigates the link between internet addiction and mental well-being among
university students aged 18-25 in India. Using a survey design and validated
instruments like the Internet Addiction Test, WHO-5 Well-being Scale, Beck's
Depression Inventory, and UCLA Loneliness Scale, we aim to assess the correlation
between internet dependency and mental health. The findings will contribute to a
deeper understanding of the impact of digital dependence on young adults' mental
well-being in India, potentially informing interventions and promoting healthy digital
habits.
