Discussion Assignment

This discussion assignment leads the students to think of the qualities of a teacher which are
instrumental in the reinforcement of a positive environment in a classroom.

Standard Directions: In the discussion forum, you are expected to participate often and
engage in deep levels of discourse. Please post your initial response as early in the unit as
possible and continue to participate throughout the unit. You are required to post an initial
response to the question/issue presented in the Forum and then respond to at least 3 of
your classmates’ initial posts. You should also respond to anyone who has responded to
you.

Think about a classroom situation in your past where a teacher used an

ineffective discipline method.

 Why was it ineffective?

 Based on your readings, what changes could have been made to improve the
discipline process and create a more positive classroom climate?

In your responses to three of your peers, compare and contrast your views with your
classmates.

Discussion Requirements

Your Discussion should be a minimum of 200 words in length and not more than 500
words. Please include a word count. Following the APA standard, use references and in-
text citations for the textbook and any other sources. Cite your work and provide
references at the end. Once you’ve completed your initial post, be sure to respond to
the posts of at least 3 of your classmates and rate their posts.

Discussion Responses:

It is your responsibility to respond to three classmates by providing comments, asking

questions, or having a conversation about their main post. Feedback should be
appropriate, meaningful, and helpful. For instance, refer to how your own experience
supports/contradicts the opinions developed by your peers. If you think they are too
general or not rooted enough in personal experience, you may also ask for more
detailed examples supporting these opinions. In particular, make sure that the
examples provided are properly referenced and that you are able to access them.
Overall, your comments should contribute positively to the conversation by broadening
or clarifying it. Feedback should be at least 3-4 complete sentences (at least 100 words).
