1. Introduction
Thank you for purchasing our newly developed lighting tower.

The Operator’s Manual is designed to guide you through the correct procedures needed

to operate and maintain your lighting tower.

This manual “safety precautions” must be read and understood prior to operating this

machine and it must be kept with the light tower at all times for later reference.

Operating this machine must follow this manual’s instructions and some other related

safety regulations. The user-friendly design of this lighting tower can guarantee your

safety in loading, unloading, operation, and maintenance if all the steps are carried out in

compliance with this manual.

We reserve the right to improve this lighting tower. If there is any technical improvement

without change in its structure and function, this manual will not be modified.

The lighting tower can only work within the operating range specified herein. Any use out

of this range is prohibited and any consequence result from this use is the user’s

responsibility.

Operation is forbidden, if:

The user has replaced its spare parts randomly.

The safety device is incomplete or ineffective.

The operator’s manual is not fully understood.

References are made in this manual that explains relevant information using a clock

reference. In these instance the drawbar is considered to be at the 12 o’clock position.

Also the ‘left’ is considered to be at the 9 o’clock position and ‘right’ is considered to be the

3 o’clock position. When using the term ‘front’ it refers to the 12 o’clock position and ‘back’

refers to the 6 o’clock position.

2. Safe operation
Careful operation is your best assurance against an accident. Read and understand this

section carefully before operating the lighting tower. All operators, no matter how much

experience they may have, should read this and other related manuals before operating

the lighting tower. It is the owner’s obligation to provide all operators with this information

and instruct them on safe operation.

Safety instructions
Be sure to observe the following safety operations.

Read and understand carefully this “OPERATOR’S MANUAL” and “LABELS ON THE

LIGHTING TOWER” before operating the lighting tower.

Learn how to operate and work safely. Know your machine and its limitations. Always

keep the machine regularly serviced as per manuals service instructions.

DO NOT modify the machine. UNAUTHORIZED MODIFICATIONS to the machine may

affect the function and life span of this machine, if the machine does not perform properly,

consult your local Lighting Tower Distributor first.

Carefully read the all safety symbols attached to the lighting tower and observe all

messages that follow the symbols to avoid possible injury or death.

Precautions against electrical shock


⚫ This lighting tower has provision for producing high voltage electricity (up to 230

volts) that can produce a fatal shock to a person who accidentally places himself in

the electrical circuit.

⚫ Beware of a cut or damaged power cord and replace it immediately.

⚫ Shut down the machine when repair and carrying out maintenance.

⚫ Troubleshooting and maintenance as regards high voltage AC system must be

carried out by a Qualified and Trained electrician.

⚫ Disconnect electrical power and turn off engine before removing protective electrical

covers on high voltage enclosures.

⚫ Only use a Multimeter (or voltage meter) with two well-insulated probes rated for 750

volts.

⚫ Keep one hand in your pocket when touching the multimeter probe to hot conductor.

This will prevent electricity from passing into one hand and out the other, a path that

takes the electricity across the heart.

⚫ Inspect the ground cable between the generator set and the frame. If damaged,

replace immediately.

⚫ Use tools with insulated handles when working within the reach of live conductors,

and remove any metal jewelries such as watchbands or bracelets that might make an

inadvertent electrical contact.

⚫ Concentrate on the task unit the danger from high voltage is removed.

Wear personal protective equipment (PPE)

⚫ Safety goggles and working gloves should be required.

⚫ Do not operate light tower after taking alcohol or drugs or some medicines causing

dizzy.

Safe control for fuel, keep away from fire

⚫ Fuel and lubricant are flammable liquid, keep away from the fire.

⚫ Do not refuel or fill up lubricant before stopping the engine.

⚫ Do not smoke or allow any flame or spark around your working area.

⚫ Do not refuel any gasoline or alcohol into fuel tank. Both of them might cause fire

and

engine problems.

⚫ Do not start the engine and operate light tower instance leakage of fuel or hydraulic

oil or engine lubricant or coolant.

⚫ Do not use poor or dirty fuel, hydraulic oil and lubricants.

⚫ Obey regular safety standards, rules and etc.

Cautions against burns & battery explosion

⚫ Do not touch some hot components, such as engine exhaust, muffler, radiator,

engine

body and etc., during the engine running or it has been stopped within a hour.

⚫ DO NOT open the radiator cap while the engine is running or the engine stopped

less than 30 minutes, the hot coolant might spray out to cause some injury.

⚫ Keep the battery away from fire and hot conditions.

⚫ The sulfuric acid in the battery might cause skin and eye injury. Please wear

personal protective equipment.

⚫ If acid get the skin or into the eyes, rush to water tap and water the portion injured

immediately, then going to emergency care as soon as possible.

Keep hands and body away from rotating parts

⚫ Avoid hands or body to touch the rotating parts.

⚫ Do not check or adjust the belt tension before stopping the engine.

⚫ Keep hands and body away from rotating components or parts, such as alternator,

fan, fan V-belt, charging alternator, pulleys, flywheel and etc.

Safety precautions against operation

⚫ Please read the operate manual before operating the lighting tower.

⚫ Protect children by keeping them at a safe distance from the machine.

⚫ In accordance with the guidance of instructions to operate the lighting tower.

⚫ Always ensure that only qualified people operate the lighting tower.

⚫ Check the grounding.

⚫ Stay away from any moving parts.

⚫ The machine should not be used in a potentially explosive atmosphere.

⚫ DO NOT remove or disconnect any of the safety devices.

⚫ Only one operator at a time to operate the lighting tower and it is only to be operated

from the main control panel.

⚫ Always make sure that the stabilizing legs are secured and the machine is level and

stable before operation.

⚫ Ensure that all appropriate measures are taken with the legs to avoid a trip hazard.

⚫ Never start the lighting tower when it is short of fuel, hydraulic oil, water or lubricants.

⚫ DO NOT use hard water as coolant water.

⚫ All doors and caps that can be locked must be locked or fixed before starting the

machine.

⚫ Running with overload is forbidden.

4. Brief introduction of the light tower


TN9 series light tower is a kind of portable lighting equipment with the generator set,

luminaires, telescopic mast, trailer and canopy. It is designed for harsh environment. The

trailer with a height adjustable towing coupler allows it to be drawn by different kinds of

vehicle. It can extensively be use in mining, construction, events, emergency rescue & etc.

TN9 series is the latest designed and manufactured light tower with the telescopic mast.

The operation is simpler than other series lighting tower. And compact design for loading

more units.

The general features:

1. Japaneses KUBOTA motor with Italian MECC ALTE alternator.

2. Metal halide luminaire or optional LED.

3. Durable chaise with 1500 kg leaf-spring axle can meet harsh road.

4. 4 extendable stabilizing legs can against 20m/s wind.

5. 330°rotatable mast with pin lock device.

6. The bottom lock of mast is for its safe standing, just tread its pedal to release it.

7. 45 gal (173 liters) fuel tank, fueling once per 2 weeks for TN9-R4000 running regularly.

The battery fluid contains sulphuric acid which is extremely corrosive and harmful

to the skin. Touch it must be extremely careful.

5.4 Fuel

NOTE

There isn’t fuel in the fuel tank when you got the new light tower from the

manufacturer.

Please protect the environment, don’t spill out the fuel on the ground.

6. Transportation, towing & placement

The compact designing for this series of light tower is really convenient for

transportation, towing and placement.

6.1 light tower towing

Please follow the below process before the light towers should be towed:

1. Check all the tire and make sure the tire pressure are normal.

2. All the stabilizing legs have to be retracted completely.

3. The mast have to be retracted completely.

4. The lights mounting bracket has been to be horizontal.

5. Twist the top handle of jockey wheel until the wheel supported ground (Below picture

left), then move the towing bar and hang up towing coupler to the hook of vehicle.

6. Then retracting the jockey wheel (Above picture right).

7. Pull out the pin (Below picture left) and rotate jockey wheel to horizontal (Below

picture right).

6.2 light tower placement

When light tower has been towed to get the final destination, please operate
as procedure below to place it for ready to work.
1. Pull out the pin and rotate directive wheel to vertical (Below picture left), then twist its
top handle until the wheel supported ground (Below picture right).

2. Drop off the towing coupler from the hook of vehicle.

3. Please lay the stabilizing legs.

4. Adjust four stabilizing legs until the lighting tower is level.

5. Must be carefully for raising up the mast.

6.3 Light tower transportation


In order to load more light towers into container, some components have to be

disassembled before loading.

Operate as below process:

1. The mast has to be retracted completely.

2. The lights mounting bracket has to be horizontal.

3. Disassemble all of the lights from the lights mounting bracket, and put them into

suitable containers or boxes.

4. Disassemble towing bracket with its accessories from the chaise of light tower.

5. All the stabilizing legs have to be retracted completely.

6. Move the light towers into container, there are side forklift slots for quick

and precise movement and placement;

7. Chock the tires and bundle up the light towers with ropes or other stuff tightly.

7.Operating guide
7.1 Checking list before operation
◼ Read the light tower, engine, alternator & controller manuals or guides before

operating the light tower;

◼ Check the fuel, engine lubricant and coolant, make sure all of them have been

normal;

◼ Check the electrical control box, wire harness, electric parts, components, plugs

and other connections, make sure all of them have been normal;

◼ Check the wire ropes and ensure they are intact.

◼ Turn on battery switch;

◼ Make sure emergency stop button has been release.

Note: There isn’t fuel in the fuel tank, and there aren’t lubricant or coolant in the engine

when you get the new light tower from the manufacturer.

7.2 Refer 6.2 process for light tower placement

7.3 Raise up the mast, adjust light direction and angles

WARNING
:
✓ Do not extend the mast before the stabilizing legs have supported on

ground and light tower has been adjusted to the horizontal completely.

✓ Do not retract the stabilizing legs when the mast has been raised up.

✓ Please retract the telescopic mast when the wind is over 72km/h.

◼ Rotate the handle for adjusting the lights shooting angles ;

◼ Rotate the handle A clockwise for raising up the mast, otherwise rotate it

counterclockwise for retraction;

◼ Rotate the handle B clockwise for raising up the mast, otherwise rotate it

counterclockwise for retraction(picture A);

◼ Pull out the pin and rotate the handle of the mast plate for adjusting the shooting

direction of the lights.

7.4 Start engine


◼ Push the green button, the engine is going to start, and the light will come on

when the brake is closed.

8. Maintenance of light tower


8.1 Wire maintenance
Please check whether the wire harness and connectors are normal after long use.

WARNING:

Whenever open the control box or check electric wiring,you must be carefully to

avoid touch the part that might cause electric shock accident. Only qualified and

trained operators are able to check or repair system of light tower.

8.2 Engine maintenance


Regular Maintenance
The maintenance circle is determined by running time and mainly divides into daily,

after 100 hours, after 500 hours maintenance. And for more detailed information please

refer to engine maintenance manual.

Daily maintenance
(1) Check to see if there is any leak of fuel, lubricant oil;

(2) Check water quantity in water tank;

(3) Check amount of the fuel and coolant;

(4) Check dust in air cleaner dust cup.

Maintenance after 100 hours


(1) Cleaning of air cleaner element;

(2) Cleaning of fuel filter;

(3) Clean or replace oil filter cartridge (or after 200 hours);

(4) Replace cooling water when not clean;

(5) Check of fan belt tightness.

Maintenance after 500 hours


(1) Check of radiator hoses and clamp bands;

(2) Replacement of oil filter cartridge (depending on the oil pan)

(3) Check of intake air line;

(4) Replacement of fuel filter element;

(5) Removal of sediment in fuel tank;

(6) Cleaning of water jacket (radiator interior);

(7) Replacement of fan belt.

NOTE:

For more information please refer to the engine’s manual and the generator’s manual.

8.3 Mast maintenance


(1) Always keep the mast clean and free from dust and rain. Wrap it with plastic paper

when not used;

(2) The mast should not be hit;

(3) When cleaning the mast, do not use acid or alkali liquid and do not let the liquid flow

inside the mast.

8.4 Wire ropes maintenance


The wire ropes used raising and lowering the masts on the lighting tower are probably

some of the most important mechanical parts in day-to-day operation of the machinery. It

is therefore very important that the cables are inspected on a frequent basis (before

operating the lighting tower) for wear and tear, and immediately in the event of possible

damage due to operator error in using the winch, or possible damage from other

equipment.

(1) The wire rope should be regularly maintained in order to get rid of the damage

caused by rust or dirt;

(2) The groove of the reel and pulley should ofen be cleaned, if there is damage, please

repair or replace them promptly;

(3) In the course of using wire ropes, please avoid contact with dust, sand, coal sand,

and acid-base compounds;

(4) When the lighting tower is unused, the wire ropes shoud coat anti-rust oil every six

months.

DANGER:

If any nicks(partial strand cut through), kinks(permanent bends), or weld spatter on the

cable(from field service) are observed, the suspect wire rope should be changed

immediately.

8.5 Luminaires maintenance


(1) Cut off the power source and wait until the lamps is cooling before maintenance;

(2) When the light goes out suddenly, you should first check all the lines and

connections to see if they are tight and function well, otherwise the light may expire and

has to be replaced;

(3) When changing lamps, please choose the appropriate lamps according to the

manufacturer's instructions.

9. Trouble shooting Guide


List below are the most common trouble when using the light tower.

ANOMALY: Push green button, the starting motor doesn’t work.

CAUSE REMEDY

Master battery isolating switch is off. Turn on it.

The battery is disconnected. Check battery connection.

The battery is discharge . Recharge the battery.

The battery is defective. Replace the battery.

The emergency stop button has been on. Twist button clockwise for resetting it.

Electric wires and connections problems. Check wire harness and connectors.

Motor solenoid relay failure. Contact Kubota service or supplier.

The starting motor doesn’t work. Contact Kubota service or supplier.

ANOMALY: Starting motor running, but engine can’t be started.


CAUSE REMEDY

There is not fuel in the tank. Refuel diesel.

Fuel filter congestion. Replace new one.

Fuel hoses or connectors problem. Check them and tighten all connectors.
Check the pump wire connection, contact a
The fuel pump doesn’t work.
Kubota service if it’s normal.

ANOMALY: Start engine difficultly.


CAUSE REMEDY

Air filter is dirty. Clean up or replace it.

Fuel filter congestion. Replace new one.

Fuel hoses or connectors problem. Check them and tighten all connectors.

ANOMALY: Speed & voltage wavy.


CAUSE REMEDY

Fuel hoses or connectors problem. Check them and tighten all connectors.

ANOMALY: Engine stopped by low oil pressure fault.


CAUSE REMEDY

The lubricant level is low. Check the level and fill up some lubricant.

The pressure switch is failure. Replace new one.

ANOMALY: Engine stopped by high coolant temperature fault.


CAUSE REMEDY

The coolant level is lower. Check the coolant in radiator.

Radiator congested. Clean up radiator.

Radiator fan doesn’t work or work well. Check the fan or its belt.

ANOMALY: One or more lights doesn’t work.


CAUSE REMEDY

Electric connection fault. Check wire harness and coil cord or its

connectors.

Circle breakers fault. Check it and fix it or replace new one.

Light connector fault. Check it and fix its problem or replace new

one.

Light failure. Check it or replace new one.

ANOMALY: Low fuel level after refueling.


CAUSE REMEDY

The fuel level sensor doesn’t work or failure Check it & its wire connection or replace it

ANOMALY: Alarm by battery charging fault.

CAUSE REMEDY

The battery is failure. Replace new one.

The engine charging alternator is failure. Check its belt or contact a Kubota service.

ANOMALY: The telescopic mast doesn’t raise or retract.

CAUSE REMEDY

Light tower is not horizontal. Adjust stabilizing legs.

Some section of telescopic mast got stuck. Shaking the mast and try again.

Check all of the cables and fix the problem,


Some steel cables got stuck.
then try again.

ANOMALY: Unable to stop engine.


CAUSE REMEDY

Electric connection fault. Check wire harness or its connectors.

Cut off air intake or oil supply immediately

Engine racing. to stop the engine, and check engine and

wire harness.
