Answer the following Questions
Question 1 (10 Marks)
a. State the basic components of NC system.
b. What is the role of MCU in NC system? and state the methods of data input to MCU.
c. With neat sketches only, illustrate tool offset setting in CNC M/Cs using G42 and G41.

Question 2 (30 Marks)

Write a G-code program with automatic tool
offsets for the shown part to:
a. Mill the outer profile with full depth from
P1 in CCW direction.
b. Mill 2 slots with full depth.
c. Drill 4 through holes using suitable
Drilling Canned Cycle.
d. List the used tools.

Question 3 (20 Marks)

Using subprogram call, write a G-
Code Program to mill the three
identical H- slots in the shown part.

b. With aid of neat sketch: -
1. Compare between three types of check surface’s motion modifier words.
2. Basic movements in the turning machine.
3. GOFWD/L1, PAST, 2, INTOF, C1.

Question 5 (30 Marks)

a. Write a complete part program using APT to mill
the outer profile, starting from the bottom left-
hand corner in counterclockwise direction, of the
given part using feed of 0.8 mm/rev, speed 1150
rpm (CCW), and Postprocessor call statement is
MACHINE/MILL, 07. Use flat type end mill of
Ø10 mm.
b. Write a part program using APT-MACRO to drill
the 6 through holes, Ø8 mm in the part, use twist
drill of Ø8 mm. (Part thickness is 20 mm).

Question 6 (20 Marks)

The component shown in the Figure is to be machined using a CNC lathe. Prepare the part
program to completely machine the part from a rolled stock of diameter 100 mm and length 200
mm using turning canned cycles. Clearly show the program zero, axes on the drawing, and
assume a proper value of process parameters.
