• Invasion of the host with microbial species

• This will result in a disease.

1- According to causative agent → Viral

→ Fungal
→ parasitic

2- According to onset of symptoms and signs
→ Chronic
3- According to virulence of the microbe i.e. “the ability of
the microbe to produce symptoms”
➢ Apparent infection.
➢Silent or subclinical infection.
➢Latent infection
