COLOMBO - The 62nd anniversary of the establishment of Afghanistan-Sri Lanka


diplomatic relations was celebrated at the Afghan embassy in Colombo on Sunday.
On this occasion, Sri Lankan Prime Minister Mahinda Rajapaksa said in a tweet that
the leadership of both countries are committed to continue and further strengthen
“our friendship and bilateral relationship to mutually bene t both our nations.”
Afghan ambassador in Sri Lanka, M. Ashraf Haidari, said in a statement that in the
modern era, Afghanistan and Sri Lanka established non-resident diplomatic
relations on November 1, 1958.
“As two democracies in South Asia, the fast-growing relations of Afghanistan and Sri
Lanka enjoy the strong and unreserved support of our two governments’
leadership,” he said.
The Afghan envoy says the two countries could build strong economic and trade
relations.
According to him, the Afghan embassy in Colombo was opened in 2013. (TOLO
