Introduction Prime RES III model kit
CLM Pro has released a brand new model called Prime RES III.
Prime RES III is an upgraded version of Prime RES II model. The new version has two spoilers and slimmer fu-
selage, completely new wings, which brings it to lower weight and is working with the flow better. The wing
is constantly an elipsis throughout its length which gives the model good stability and easy handling during
flight.
The model is designed to be an all-round model for weather conditions from low thermals to strong winds.
The model is designed and optimized to the last detail and it all comes together perfectly. Most importantly,
when flying and competing, adjustments can be done quickly on the spot (ballast, hook etc.)
All parts are precisely laser-cut from balsa and aero plywood, all carefully selected high-quality materials.
Due to its aerodynamic design and excellent performance, it is very stable and is a joy to fly.
The model is designed and produced for competitions according to FAI F3L RES competition rules.
Compared to the previous version, the new model has several improvements and features, such as:
* wing halves that connect on the sides of the fuselage - V dihedral in the middle of the wing - better stability
* an adjustable hook: you can change the position of the hook (forward-backward) in the field in a second
* ballast is in the center of gravity of the model and is placed between the wings, so it can be easily manipu-
lated from the upper side of the fuselage.
* new carbon tailboom which is longer than in previous versions
* canopy has a mechanics with magnet for easier and faster closing
* other details worked out to the last bit
Kit includes:
- detailed drawing in color
- detailed building manual with step-by-step images
- CNC cut jig from styrofoam (underside of wings) for easier wing glueing
- laser cut ribs and all other required parts
- templates for gluing the first ribs at angles
- carbon tailboom
- carbon tube for mainspar
- set of ballast with a total weight of 90 gr. + 29 gr steel joiner
- carbon wing joiner
- steel wing joiner for more ballast
- adjustable tow hook, including all necessary parts
- rudder horns, u-nuts and various bolts for mounting
- various magnets for the canopy, spoiler, ballast box and other
- bowdens and controls for connecting moving surfaces
- other carbon small parts and accessories
Additional details for each segment of the model can be found below.
Wings:
Due to better stability the wing is designed with multiple segments. The wing is constructed in two pieces
which are connected to the fuselage in the middle.
The wing also has a centerpanel with a dihedral angle in the middle, while the middle panel and tip panels
are angled.
Each of the segments (tip panel, mid panel and center panel) are built with an angle, including the two
halves which are connected to the fuselage with an angle as well.
3
Wings:
The wing is constantly an elipsis throughout its length which gives the model good stability and easy handling
during flight.
The wings are joined with carbon joiner or steel joiners (ballast) and have pre-prepared pins so that every-
thing fits together perfectly.
To ensure even stronger connection and to transfer the load better from middle panels of the wing onto the
center panel, a wing carbon joiner made at an angle is included to connect the wing components together.
Kits also includes a carbon tube which is used as mainspar, and is reinforced with kevlar where wing seg-
ments are connected.
You also get a CNC cut styrofoam jig for easier wing glueing.
The main construction of the wings is built with full balsa ribs, plywood for trailing edge and reinforcements
where needed, while composite materials are used for leading edge and mainspar according to FAI F3 RES
rules.
All parts are laser cut and fit together perfectly. There is minimum rework needed, you only have to assem-
ble everything and bond according to the manual.
The centerpanel comes with a two separated spoilers with built-in magnets so it’s perfectly closed when in
closed position.
Fuselage:
As our every fuselage, this fuselage is also made with aerodinymical shape with smooth transitions. Again, all
parts are laser cut out of balsa and avio plywood.
The fuselage is reinforced on strategic spots with selection on material which gives it more strength.
One of the main features is also adjustable tow hook which is made of several parts which allows you to
change the position of the hook (forward-backward) in the field in a second.
Special attention was also given to the ballast, which is integrated within a box in the pod, with a few reserve
ballast modules, which can be changed in the field literally in seconds without disassembling the model.
The total weight that can be used for the ballast included with the steel joiner (only an option as an increase
in ballast) is 119 grams.
Ballast contains 4 steel squares, dimensions 10x10 mm, length 29mm, each weighing 22.50g, which means a
total of 90g. The steel joiner weighs 29g, so the total is 119g.
Ballast is in the center of gravity of the model and is placed between the wings, so it can be easily manipulat-
ed from the upper side of the fuselage/wing.
The ballast comes with balsa of the same diameter, so if you only want 22.5g of ballast, fill the rest with balsa
so that everything looks nice and compact in the box and doesn’t run away.
Canopy is designed in a way that there is enough space to easily manipulate with all components in the fuse-
lage, allowing the battery to be inserted and connected easily, improving usability on the field.
The canopy has a mechanism with magnet for easier closing and making sure that it will not fall off during
flight.
The tappered carbon tailboom is made from several carbon types. Materials are strategicaly oriented, so the
boom has maximum strength and minimum weight.
4
Tail:
The tail is also designed having aerodynamics in mind. It is a construction of laser cut balsa components.
If needed, there is an option to reinforce the elevator with carbon rectangular rod for stiffness.
Horizontal stab/elevator is tied to the tailboom via pylon which has a built-in nut so the tail can be dissasem-
bled for easier transport.
Vertical fin has pre-prepared carbon pins which are inserted into drilled tailboom and is easily tied to the
fuselage.
Carbon tailboom has predrilled holes for mountint the rudder/elevator which contain carbon rods.

- bond together Pos. 55 (card D1-3) and Pos. 55-1 (card A-3)
- bond together Pos. 50 (card E-3) and Pos. 50-1 (card A-3)
- bond together Pos. 49-R (card E-3) and Pos. 49-1R (card A-3)

Step 1.1:
Step 2:
- place and Pos. 46 (card F-3) onto trailing edge and attach with pins
- place and Pos. 46-1 (card A-3) to Pos. 46 and attach with pins to the base to follow the profile of the wing
Step 2.1:
Step 3:
- place ribs Pos. 56, 59, 62, 65, 68 (card D-3) and Pos. 71 (card E-3) onto the drawing and fix with pins
Step 4:
- At the junction of the segments of the center panel and the middle wing panel, the carbon mainspar is
wrapped with aramid for additional strength - before positioning the carbon tube in the ribs, check the first
few ribs where the reinforced part goes, how the fit is in the ribs and, if necessary, sand a little
Step 4.1:
- to slot the carbon tube into position, start by inserting the tube from rib 71, and place the inter-ribs
70, 69, 67, 66...57 then diagonals 56-1, and all the way to the rib 51
Note:
- slightly rotate the carbon tube during insertion for easier installment
Step 4.2:
- bond the previously prepared rib Pos. 51 on a base of balsa and plywood
- move the carbon tube further by the rib and glue the previously prepared rib Pos. 50
- move the carbon tube further by the rib and glue the previously prepared rib Pos. 49
- move the carbon tube further by the last rib and glue the previously prepared rib Pos. 47
Note:
- when gluing, make sure that the ribs are pressed down on the base
Step 4.3:
- when the mainspar is in its position, align all inter-ribs and rib diagonals
- fasten the leading edge of the ribs onto the template
Note: before bonding, check if end-ribs, Pos. 71 are straight with a straight object. This is
important for later for better fitment between the sections. Also check the angles of aforementioned ribs
- bond the main spar with cyanoacrylic adhesive
Step 5:
- place leading edge/carbon rod Ø 2.5 mm onto the drawing
- fasten with pins at one end
Note:
- bond the leading edge to first 3 ribs and then slowly bend the leading edge to follow curvature and bond
to the rest of the ribs
- insert and bond the aluminum tube Ø 7 mm into which the wing joiner will later go

Step 6:
Note:
- when gluing the magnet, make sure that the upper side of the spoiler box is flat so that the spoiler can fit
all the way into the box
Step 6.1:
- before bonding, sand the rib a little at an angle so that it fits better in position
Step 6.2:
Step 6.3:
Step 7:
Step 8:
- first rib Pos. 47-R and 47-L (card A-3) bond to the side of the center panel
Note:
- pay attention to the left side of 47-L and the right side of 47-R
Note 1:
- when bonding, insert a wing joiner to center the holes
Note 2:
- the lower side of the ribs should be aligned
Step 8.1:
- when gluing, pay attention that the lower sides of the ribs are aligned and flat
- on the upper side, the first rib should be higher to thicken the plank that is subsequently glued
Step 9:
Note:
- do not bond, yet
Step 9.1:
- center the holes from the previously inserted Pos. 77 to match perfectly
- when the holes match, fasten everything together to the fuselage with an M4 screw
Note:
- do not bond, yet
Step 9.2:
- separate the wings and bond Pos. 77 on the first ribs of the wing
Notes:
- when the wings are joined, do not bond them to the first ribs so they don’t bond to the fuselage
Step 10:
Notes:
- note that Pos. 48-1 when bonding pressed all the way to the leading edge
Step 10.1:
- dry sand the transition between trailing edge and Pos. 48 to get a smooth transition to the trailing edge
Step 10.2:
- prepare the spoiler Pos. 74 (card G-3) and two magnets Ø 3x2 mm
- to know the magnet polarity, put the on the magnets that are already bonded on the spoiler box
- bond the magnets onto Pos. 74 on such a way that the magnet is visible
Step 11:
Step 12:
Step 12.1:
- use vitroplast joiners to help and reinforce the connection of the two segments
- first dry-fit the segments together to make sure everything fits together
- the angle of the wing tip should be 11°, or 55 mm from the bottom plane
Step 12.2:
- once everything is checked and fits together, bond the two segments with two-component epoxy
adhesive and fasten them with clips
Step 12.3:
- with a fine file, lightly clean the end of the carbon mainspar on the middle wing and center panel so that
the carbon joiner fits into the carbon tube more easily
- lightly sand the carbon wing joiner that is at an angle so that the glue adheres to it better
Step 12.4:
- use angled carbon wing joiner to help and reinforce the connection of the two segments
- first dry-fit the segments together to make sure everything fits together
- the angle of the wing tip should be 6°, or 44 mm from the bottom plane
- once everything is checked and fits together, bond the two segments with two-component epoxy
adhesive and fasten them with clips
