Foreword

This Singapore Standard was prepared by the Technical Committee on Personal Safety and Health
under the purview of the General Engineering and Safety Standards Committee.

The standard is based on ISO 14567 : 1999 ‘Personal protective equipment for protection against falls
from a height – Single-point anchor devices’ and ISO 16024 : 2005 ‘Personal protective equipment for
protection against falls from a height – Flexible horizontal lifeline systems’. It replaces SS 402 : Part 2
: 1997 – ‘Specification for industrial safety belts and harnesses, Part 2 : Permanent anchors’.

In preparing this standard, reference was made to the following publications:

1. BS 7883 : 2005 Design, selection, installation, use and maintenance of anchor devices
conforming to BS EN 795

2. BS EN 795 : 1997 Protection against falls from a height – Anchor devices –

Specification for personal protective equipment for protection

against falls from a height – Single point anchor devices and
flexible horizontal lifeline systems

1 Scope
This standard specifies requirements, test methods, user instructions, marking, labelling and
packaging, as appropriate, of permanent, temporary single-point anchor devices and flexible
horizontal lifelines systems, exclusively for the attachment of personal protective equipment (PPE) for
protection against falls from a height for fall arrest, work positioning and travel restriction (work
restraint).

It is applicable only to anchor devices for PPEs that conform to SS 528-1, SS 528-2, SS 528-3 and
SS 528-5.

Anchor devices are rated to sustain a maximum (dynamic) arresting force of 6.0 kN, and a maximum
(static) loading of 1.0 kN (assuming a person of 100 kg mass) in post-fall arrest suspension, work-
positioning mode, or restraint mode.

Anchor devices are intended for single person use only. A rescuer should not attach to the same
anchor device as a person being rescued, unless the anchor device has been specifically designed
for such purposes, and the instructions for use specifically permit this application.

Flexible horizontal lifelines systems for use at any one time by up to three persons.

NOTE – Vertical rigid or flexible line systems are not within the scope of this standard, but are covered in
SS 528-4.
