General Rules and Regulations of Swimming

Swimming is a fun and generally safe sport. It is essential to understand safety measures before engaging
in any sort of water activity. Additionally, it is essential to adhere to the swimming rules. By carefully
reading the pool rules posted next to the swimming pools, abide by them. These are for your protection.
The guidelines safeguard your safety and keep the swimming pool clean and germ-free. Follow these tips
for an injury-free swimming.

 Wear appropriate swim gear.


 Always warm up and stretch before swimming.
 Wear water-resistant sunscreen of SPF 30 or greater for outdoor practices and meets.
 Check that the pool is deep enough before diving in.
 Know the plan for emergencies.

To help prevent overuse injuries (also called repetitive stress injuries, or RSIs), swimmers should:

 Build up extra swimming time or distance slowly.


 Learn and use proper techniques.
 Do other sports that strengthen different muscles, especially core (abdomen) muscles.

Guidelines in using the pool:

 Walk, don’t run.


 Adult supervision.
 Swim with a buddy.
 Don’t push others into the pool.
 No foods or drinks in the pool.
 Don’t swim after eating.
 Don’t pee in the pool.
