Business Rescue Practitioners
In October 2016, SAIPA was accredited by CIPC as a regulator for Business Rescue
Practitioners (BRP). In order to be eligible for licensing as a BRP, there are a number of
additional, minimum requirements that members need to meet, including:
Academic requirements
A full member of SAIPA in good standing
Plus
A qualification in Business Rescue or Business Restructuring, or Insolvency and Liquidations
(from any recognised institution of higher learning).
Plus
Practical experience
An applicant must demonstrate, by providing a detailed CV with traceable references,
evidence of a minimum of 12 months experience in Business Rescue and/or Insolvency and
Liquidations; OR 24 months’ experience in Business Restructuring and Turnaround
Strategies.
Interested members are free to register with any of the above institutions. SAIPA is in the
process of collaborating with one of the institutes to develop a SAIPA-specific certificate
course.
Applicants that meet the above criteria will be provided with a confirmation letter which will
also be sent to CIPC who will ultimately issue the member with a licence to practice.
Continuing Professional Development for BRPs
Licenced BRPs will be expected to accumulate a minimum of four structured CPD hours in
Business Rescue, per calendar year in addition to the mandatory hours (i.e. mandatory hours
will be: Accounting 4 hours, Tax 4 hours (if not a tax practitioner), Ethics 2 hours, Business
Rescue 4 hours plus any other area 6 hours = structured 20 hours per year) as required for
full members.
Applications
Applications for Business Rescue Practitioners from members that meet the above criteria will
be accepted from the beginning of 2017. A once-off application fee of R513.00 (incl. VAT) is
payable to SAIPA on application.
