Your Elna Elnita is easy
to understand
The Instruction Manual is intended to make you
familiar with your Elna Elnita and its operation. In
addition, you can obtain Elna Sewing Booklets and
Brochures from Elna Distributors for a modest sum.
Here are its essential parts:
1 bulbs in your home.
3-position safety dial. Your Elna Elnita is delivered
with the dial set at the safe position, ” O “. In this
position the mechanism is locked. The machine
cannot be started inadvertently. The two other
positions are sewing ” { “ and bobbin winding “ IL“.
Turn the safety dial to the sewing position

4 Stitch selector—for Elna Elnita-sp (special) only
5 Rotary hook cover.
9 Built-in sewing light.
Input 15 W maximum.
You will find that everything is ready for your
everyday sewing jobs:
6 The sewing foot for the usual straight and zigzag
stitches.
7 A number 80 needle (medium size).
8 The thread tension at the “ Universal “ position, No. 5.
There is no longer any need to change the
pressure of the sewing foot since it is suitable
for both sheer and heavy materials.
10 Thread take-up lever.
11 Bobbin winder.

12 Retractable spool pin.
13 Flywheel.
14 Light switch.
15 Specification plate. Make sure that the voltage
(volts) is the same as that indicated on the light
16 Electric foot control and cord. Insert the plug into
the machine so that the cords lead towards the
rear of the machine.
Try out your Elna Elnita by running it for a few
turns without thread. The further you press down
the foot control's moveable button, the faster your
Elnita will run.

Service : Should you require any further information,

competent staff will be glad to answer your questions.
In accordance with the terms of the guarantee, he is
also the only person authorized to attend to any
mechanical adjustments on your Elna Elnita.
Safety:
In accordance with the recommendations of
electrical safety-, standards- and control
authorities, the sewing machine must be dis-
connected from the main supply by removing
the plug from the socket-outlet whenever:
— the machine is left unattended, -elnila

— the machine is being serviced,
— mechanical parts are changed,
— accessories are changed.

The accessories,
contained in a pouch, are as follows: Before starting
darning foot and plate 1 Sewing foot, already in place on the machine.

3 Hold the needle, with its flat against the index
finger (3 a) and push it as far as it will go into the

a soft cover, and (no need for a screwdriver). Use needles of the

"Winding the Bobbin
For the usual sewing jobs, you will do well to use a
thread of medium thickness.
More detailed information on threads, needles and
thread tensions is given on pages 20-21.
We advise you to read it carefully.
1 round to the front, at the angle illustrated (b).
Turn the safety dial to Bobbin Winding “ IL “.
Make sure that it is properly engaged.
Place the bobbin on the bobbin winder with the
holes on top.
3 Pull out the spool pin and place the spool on it.
Raise the thread guide and pass the thread through it.
5 Wind the end of the thread around the bobbin by
hand, in the direction indicated.
Wind by machine, while pressing lightly on the
spool with the left hand, so that the thread will
be stretched and the bobbin wound more evenly.
Important: — Watch the bobbin and stop
winding just before the bobbin is completely full.
Turn the safety dial to Sewing “{ “. It will
remain in that position as long as you use
the machine.
Inserting the Bobbin
8 There is no bobbin case. Drop the bobbin into the
rotary hook, with the holes facing upwards.
Retain the bobbin with the left index finger.
Pass the thread through the slot (a). Bring the thread

thread into the notch with a slight tug to the
rear. It then snaps into the tension spring
automatically.
Important check, to ensure that your Elna
Elnita will sew properly:
10 Open the rotary hook cover and check by
pulling the thread gently towards the rear.
It should not come out of the slot (8a) ; if it
does, repeat the operations as explained
under 8 and 9 above.
11 To change the bobbin, pull the extractor down
into the bobbin. When it is released, the bobbin is
automatically removed.

Threading the Upper Thread
The thread take-up lever and presser bar must be
raised. Hold back the spool with the tip of your
finger and pass the thread as shown in the illustration,
in the following order:
1 Thread guide.
2 Universal upper tension No. 5, give the thread
a slight tug upwards.
3 Thread take-up lever—pass the thread through the
rear of the notch in the cover, from right to left,
passing it around the thread take-up lever. The
thread will slip into the opening of the thread
take-up lever. :
4 Thread guide.
You are now ready to start sewing.
5 Needle clamp. Pull the thread well into the
clamp.
Note to 2: Universal Upper Tension
6 Needle, to be threaded from front to back.
7 Pull forward about 15 cm (6) of thread to the
front and hold it between the left index finger
and the edge of the needle plate.
8 To draw up the lower thread, the rotary hook cover
should be open and the thread take-up lever at its

highest position. Give the flywheel a full turn
towards you by hand, thus lowering the thread
take-up lever and then raising it to its highest
position. Free the loop of thread completely with
your fingers.
9 Make sure that the lower thread crosses the
bobbin correctly. Close the rotary hook
cover, pull both threads about 15 cm (6)
towards the rear, passing them under the
presser foot.
This tension will be suitable for all your everyday
sewing jobs. If, however, an adjustment is required:
— to increase the tension, turn the tension dial to
the wider marks, between 5 and 9.
