This tutorial should cover just about everything you'll need to know about printing with HP 51645a UV
cartridges.

The best hp printers for printing with the hp 51645a (in order of preference) are the photosmart p1000,
p1115, p1215, p1315. They are great because you can turn up the ink volume per print in the options
menu. They are discontinued so you'll need to get one used or refurbished on ebay. When searching also
try the model numbers without the p in front. (photosmart 1000, 1115, 1215, or 1315)

Some other models also compatible with the hp 51645a are (this is only a partial list)

Since these are all discontinued, you'll need to grab a used or refurbished off of ebay. They're cheap.

Now print your fronts and backs onto teslin with your regular printer first. It's 'very' important to let the
standard ink layer dry 'completely' and 'un-assisted' in a low traffic area of your choice. (This is golden
advice to follow between each and every ink layer printing. (standard or fluorescent' alike) If you rush it,
you can get moisture bubbles, scalded pearlex designs, or unsatisfactory bonding that requires so many
passes through the laminator that you'll vaporize the uv ink. Be patient. Good things come to those who
wait. Install mini hooks in your ceiling, then poke a small hole that it just wide enough for the hook to fit
through in the corner of your synthetic paper and allow it to 'hang out' for as long as you can resist
between each layer of print. No fans!! This will only propel dust, hair, and other unsightly debris onto your
wet ink, and then dry it in permanently ruining your hours of hard work.

Now, before you use your hp printer to print uv inks, take out the square piece of sponge located on the
right side if your facing it from the front. It's kinda a chore to get out, but tolerable. You'll need a flashlight.
Now rinse that thing out of all of it's years of nasty black ink build up. The hp rubs the tip of the cartridge
against it to clean it, but if it's filthy with black ink, well...that's not helping ya none. =) 'Let It Dry.' In fact if
there was only one sentence you could retain from this entire tutorial, I would want it to be 'Let It Dry.'

Technically, you can't print without both cartridges in. The printer wont let you. What you need to do is to
print a bunch of sheets in the three primary colors to drain the color cartridge bone dry. The cartridge just
needs to be present to print, but it need not have any ink in it. Be sure to clean the print head with alcohol
to ensure that you wont get any color ink streaks on your work. And of course..Let It Dry.

Now be sure to crank up the ink volume and dry time settings (if your using a photosmart) or any other
comparable settings for your model, to maximize ink out put. (Note: sometimes this will cause a red
cartridge to spit up excess ink because the particles are much smaller than the other colors. In this case
you should consider turning these settings way down.

Make your uv designs on the same exact 8-up temp you used for your standard ink layer to ensure proper
alignment. Now print yourself some great looking uv designs.

When HP 45 UV cartridges prematurely stop working:

When attempting to correct the issue, start by flipping the cart upside down with the print head up. Then
dip a soft paper towel into the purest alcohol you can scare up. Then gently glide across the print head in
the direction of the grain. (little parallel lines) Then, with the print head side facing downward, blot a few
times on a paper towel then try printing again. 99%
of the time this will solve the problem.

If still no joy, you'll need to buy an economy PRIME & fill tool. (also sometimes known as a bottom
filler..eeeww..lol) I use a machine to fill these, so they shouldn't need this, but shit can happen. An
example of the tool you need would be

You would also need a 10ml Syringe such as

http://www.quikshop.com.au/10ml-syringe-p-83890.html

Then you place into the tool nice and snug. Flip the cartridge upside down (print head up) insert the tip of
the syringe into the little hole located on the tool. Make sure that there is 'no air' inside the syringe. Now
'SLOWLY' and 'OBSERVANTLY' pull up on the plunger and the ink should start to bubble and spatter a bit
into the syringe. Continue to slowly pull, maybe even rotating the tip of the syringe counter then clockwise
a couple times to make sure there is no more air lurking inside, until you notice that there are no more
bubbles but just a steady stream of ink exiting the cart. Then stop and remove the cart from the tool. DO
NOT flip the cart back to normal upright position before removing the syringe or the cart from the tool!
Now repeat the entire paper towel & alcohol process up above again with the cart still remaining upside
down. NOW flip the cart over and slap it into your printer. Problem solved.

*** IF 'AT ALL' POSSIBLE, AVOID RUNNING YOUR PRINTER'S CLEAN OR PRIME CYCLES ***
