Introduction:

My name is Diyan Wafa Binti Jamly. I’m from Tasek Gelugor, Pulau Pinang. The
course that I’m taking is Diploma Food Service Management. This course is the
first choice for me to further my studies. I am very glad and lucky that I have been
chosen to be a part of Universiti Teknologi Mara Dungun. I hope I will pass with
earn one’s wings in all subject that I take.

This portfolio is created for the purpose of my Skill Study assignment under the
subject Skill Study (UED 102). In this portfolio, I will present notes from each topic
I have learned with the help of Sir Rahman Bin Abdullah, my the best one lecturer
who taught me for this subject.

In study skill that I have learned from week 1 in part 1 and this subject are very
profitable for students especially student who are in part 1 same as me to always
motivate themselves to focus what they want to achieve.

Topic 1: Get Ready To Learn
We as a student we need to know that or realize that we
have entered universe where we need to be independent and
to be wise in determining something whether good or bad.
We need to be more wisely to fix up our life in university
life. We also need to be more positive student and mind to
solve our routine correctly. We cannot to be too adolescent.
Owing to the fact that in university life no one will take
care of you, no family, no mom to watch you in close but
they always watch you in long distance. So lets make
oneself at home and lets ready to enter university life.
Furthermore, we need to know our intention why we came
to this university sample because of Allah swt and family.
This is because there are many differences between
university students and school students. Example:

I learnt learning style in my second week of my part 1. So I


prefer to use visual and auditory in my learning. This is a
few of skills I do in my learning. There are:
o I study while listening to music.
o I prefer to watching someone perform a task before I
try it.
o I enjoy studying in groups.
o I love to use mind maps in my notes.

Topic 2: Goals Setting

What is goals?
Life goals are what we want to achieve, and they're much
more meaningful than just 'what we need to accomplish
to survive'. You need to set your own goals to achieve to
keep you focused on were you want to end up.

Fixed Commitment Calendar

As a student, we must be fully committed to our studies


and our routine life. For example, we must hand in our
assignment before the deadline and we need to attempt full
classes and extracurricular in that current semester. This is
where “Time” is one of the most important factors where
we need to start have a proper grip on it. Make a full use of
your own time table so that your daily basis will be more
organized and neat!

Topic 3: Time Management & Organization Skills

Time management:
! The process of planning and exercising conscious control of
time spent on specific activities such as our daily life-
especially to increase effectiveness, efficiency, and
productivity.
! We as a student of course have a lot of assignment and
test for every course and automatically we will be stress. In
this case we must manage our time for our daily life to
become a productivity and reduce our stress.
! Benefits if we as student have a good time management,
for instance:
i. Improved academic performance
ii. Reduced stress levels
iii. Reach our goals
iv. Positive reputation
v. Improved focus

Organization skills:
!Abilities to manage time effectively, prioritize tasks, set
goals, and develop systems for achieving those goals.
! As student, we have a goal to reach, example to reach a
excellent point for GPA and we need to think how to reach
this goal, how to manage it and achieve it. So, we must do
the good organization and time management to achieve our
goal.
! Benefits if we have a good organization skills:
i. Help to focus our time
ii. Enhanced creativity
iii. Improved mental health
iv. Improved social skills
v. Better time management skills
vi. Improved self-esteem

Topic 4: Memory, Learning & Improving Concentration

Memory?
! Ability of someone to recall information and ability to remember
past experiences, learned facts, skills and habits.
! There are 3 types of memory:
i. Sensory memory > temporary memory
ii. Long-term memory > for a long period time
iii. Short-term memory > for a short period time
! The main reason to have memories strategies for student is to help
us for not forget any facts or information in short period of time.
! Every students need to have memories strategies in their life to
memorise especially course that have a lot of facts example, history
and fundamentals of islam. So we have to create memories
strategies to ease our brain to absorb everything.

! Ways to improve our memory:
i. Get enough sleep
ii. Use time wisely
iii. Have a full attention when doing something
Concentration?
The ability to think carefully about something you are
doing and nothing.
! Concentration very important for students in our studies.
These help us to boost our ability of focusing towards
something.
! Concentration strategies:
i. Avoid distraction
ii. Focus on the present task
iii. Study in quiet relaxing place
iv. Take breaks

Topic 5: Taking Lecture Notes

Taking notes in class are very important part of


academic success in college. When we actively taking notes
in class can help us to improve our focus and better
understand main concepts and what lecture teach for that
chapter.
! Why we need to take note?
i. Engages our mind
ii. Keeps alert
iii. Improve our organizational skills
iv. Aid our memory
v. Improve focus and attention to detail
! How to take lecture note,
i. While waiting lecture to come in class, we can write
down date and day, leave some space to write some
important information like date for submit
assignment.

ii. Prepare before taking notes like ask the lecture first
what topic we may read before class start. So, in
these case, we can prepare any questions that we
don’t know or understand.
iii. Become a good listener.
iv. Pay attention in class.
v. Ask question when confused.

Academic intergrity:
Acting in a way that is honest, fair, respectful and
responsible in your studies academic work.

Conclusion:
From doing this assignment, I have discovered my learning style of me. As the other
student were asked to take a questionnaire regarding learning style. By finding my
learning style I can now study the right way and enhance further my strategy skills. Not
only that, I also found different ways of taking notes and the Cornell method notes
taking. This matters because by knowing to do so it will help me to amplify my study
and retain the information in my memory longer. Other than that, I also managed to
make wonderful new friend.
