First and foremost, we are thankful and grateful to Allah the Most Almighty for His
permission. With His permission, we were able to complete this assignment successfully. Our
entire devotion and responsibility were put into carrying out the task by all group members.
We put in a lot of effort to create a decent assignment.

2.0 ORGANIZATION BACKGROUND

Founded by the International Church of Christ in 1991, HOPE works around the
world to transform lives through the compassion and dedication of staff and volunteers to
provide sustainable, high impact, community-based programs for the poor and vulnerable.
HOPE worldwide operates in more than 70 countries including Malaysia and assists more
than 1 million individuals a year. Its close relationship with the International Council of the
Churches of Christ (ICC) makes it easier to raise money and provides volunteers for the
organization.

In year 1993 – 1996 HOPE worldwide opens the Village of Hope leprosy colony in
India and Sihanouk Hospital in Cambodia, along with numerous other new programs in new
sites. The organization appoints nine regional vice presidents to oversee operations.
Government contracts and grants become an important source of funding.

Next, from 1997 to 2001 HOPE global continues to grow in terms of geographical
coverage and programmatic opportunities. In-kind contributions to its health care &
education programs are growing rapidly, while donations from individuals are growing at a
slower rate.

HOPE worldwide has been operating in Malaysia since 2000 as a non-religious

Charity Organization.

In a nutshell, HOPE worldwide is an international charity organization that focuses on

delivering various forms of aid and support to communities in need. It operates in many
countries around the world and engages in activities such as healthcare, education, disaster
relief, and community development.

3.0 ORGANIZATION OPERATES

HOPE Worldwide is an international charity that change people’s lives through

empathy and commitment of the staff and volunteers to distribute sustainable, high-quality
impact, community based services to the materially poor and needy. HOPE Worldwide serves
around 1 million people annually on every place in the world. For over 30 years, HOPE
Worldwide continues to be and organization who dedicates on serving, teaching, alleviating
burden, and loving the community who experienced disease, disasters and poverty.

There are five types of programs on how this organization focus on such as health
welfare, food, education, volunteerism and corporate shared values. HOPE provides free-of-
charge clinic to the urban poor community named Sentul Free Clinic of HOPE Worldwide.
Along with the free-of-charge clinic, they also provides a high-quality services that helps
people to make a monthly check-up for their health conditions. Not just that, HOPE also
provides Penang Free Mobile Clinic which is volunteered by the doctors and nurses. This
program helps Orang Asli Settlements, some urban poor communities in Penang, Bukit
Mertajam and Northen Perak. They bring medication, health care services and food aid to
them so that their health welfare well maintained.

Besides provides health services to the community, HOPE also organized food
distribution program. This programs provides monthly groceries and necessities to low-
income families. The program really helps the poor community because they don’t have to
worry about the groceries as we all know that they can’t afford to buy it. By organizing this
program, we can learn to appreciate more in our life.

There are many educational programs that provides by HOPE Worldwide to help the
community to improve their education’s level. For example, MY Reading Program that helps
underprivileged children learn English. HOPE will make sure the learning environment are
suitable for children like honics teaching, one-toone reading, doing exercises while playing
games. This will help children to develop brain cells as HOPE don’t use any violence or
unsuitable teaching method against them. HOPE also provides Cambridge English Syllabus
program, BLP Advanced Speech Class to the youths. According to HOPE, this program is
trying to help them developing skills and understanding in reading, writing, speaking and
listening. They also provides basic mental healthcare education to the community as they
taking care of their mental health. This program is mentoring via Zoom meeting platform.

HOPE also sponsors school sponsorship to the children and youths such as buying their
school needs. This program motivates them to achieve academic achievement.

5.0 DISCUSSION (MAIN FUNCTIONS OF MANAGEMENT)

5.1 ORGANIZING

In general, organization is a group of people who work together in an organized way

for a shared purpose. Organization also can be defining as a group or a business, or it can
refer to the act of forming or establishing something. A community association, a charity, a
union, or a corporation are examples of organizations. In company, organization is an
important essential in order to make sure the company running smoothly and efficiently.
Every company has its own level of organization. For instance, in a big company it has
lower-level management, middle-level management, and upper-level management are the
three management levels commonly used in most businesses. They are classified according to
their hierarchy and authority, and they can perform a variety of tasks aimed at achieving a
specific goal. A leader of the organization plays the most important role because the good
leader will organise the organization with good and all the work will run smoothly.

HOPE Worldwide Malaysia is one of the non-organization that have in Malaysia.

HOPE Worldwide Malaysia is best known as non-religious charity organization that help
people who in need and more focus on health, food, children education and volunteerism
program. As well as the other organization, HOPE Worldwide Malaysia has its own
organization chart which is start with country director name Darick Wong, executive director,
Katy Lee, clinic assistant, Moon Tan, finance and admin executive, Tay Sim Yee, program
manager, Caesar Teh, admin assistant, Yoke Ling, program coordinator, Yoke Ling (KL),
senior program manager, June Khoo and program coordinator, Susan Chin (Penang). These
people are one who in charge when this organization held some program. The division of
work has simplified the operation of all of this organization's programs.

Every organization will undoubtedly run into a number of issues that could negatively
affect it. Thus, in order to effectively address the issues at hand, the accountable parties
within the organization ought to assume a significant role. They also need to organize their
organization well and make sure all the employees or the members of the organization do
their task. HOPE Worldwide Malaysia organize numerous of programs. Due to the COVID-
19 pandemic, HOPE Worldwide Malaysia collaborated with personal hygiene brand
Lifebouy, and beauty and health retailer Watsons for the dinner treat. Forty disadvantaged
families were fed a delectable dinner infused with Malay and Middle Eastern culture, and
they were also educated on the significance of handwashing as a means of halting the

transmission of illnesses. Hope Worldwide Malaysia executive director Katy Lee explained
that it was crucial for the nation to uphold good personal hygiene in the (Covid-19) endemic
era. HOPE Worldwide Malaysia organize this event very well to make sure all the
participants who join this programs are aware enough about hygiene during the pandemic.

HOPE Worldwide Malaysia also organize “Mental Healthcare Awareness and

Education for Rural Community” on November 2023. The purpose of this programme is to
help community to cope with stress and challenges in life with positive mental attitude. The
workshop is divided into sessions for adults, teenagers, and pre-schoolers that were held
concurrently. Observing the community's happy faces was the highlight of the day. By being
empathetic listeners, encouraging self-expression, and imparting the advantages of adopting a
positive outlook, our volunteers effectively fostered relationships and fostered community
engagement. The volunteer members give the good corporation because throughout the
programme all the participants give the great responses.

To sum up, organization play an important role in a company or organization. The

well- managed organization will lead to the good result of work. Every employees or member
in the organization will do their task given by the leader. A good leader must to make sure all
of the members do their work with honesty and trust to produce good work.

5.2 PLANNING

Planning is known as the function of management that involves setting objectives and
determining a course of action for achieving those goals. By doing this, it helps to guide and
makes you achieve success, which can be help especially if you are one of the company
management team. This means, by learning how to plan effectively, it can help you to
achieve management goals. There are a few steps on how to plan effectively, such as
establish the company’s goals, identify resources you may need, assign tasks and timelines,
and so on.

Generally, every company that cares about the good performance must achieve their
goals so that their company can grow rapidly worldwide. Malaysia’s company need to focus
more on achieving circular economy so that they can protect the environment from destroyed
in the wrong hands. As we know, destroying the environment not only bad for human beings,
but the animals that live in the forest, jungle, under the sea, and so on. So, the smallest thing
that people can do is recycling the recyclables such as paper, plastics, glass, aluminum,
batteries, electronics, food, lawn materials and so on. As for HOPE Worldwide Malaysia,
they introduced Vertical Compost Tower (VCT) as their ways to help the community to
achieve circular economy through food compost and food security which is planting own
food to avoid harming the environment such as open burning. Their goals and objectives
from VCT are empower 1,000 families with the knowledge of Food Compost by using the
VCT and educate the families the importance of food waste compost and achieve “Circular
Economy”. According to HOPE Worldwide Malaysia, all funds raised will be donated to help
urban poor communities that marginalized in the areas of Health, Food & Education. This can
indirectly reduce the poverty rate of community.

Furthermore, as a non-organisation company, it is their responsibility to take care of

the welfare of the community as their business entity does not operate for profits. Instead, the
company pursues public benefits and community development, so they need to manage it
well. HOPE Worldwide Malaysia taking initiative from Sustainable Green Program as their
main ways to connect with the community more. HOPE Worldwide Malaysia announced that
they finally have the Urban Farm erected on the rooftop are of their centre in Boulevard
Sentul Raya. This farm is built to provide teaching, education and empowerment to the
community- the adults, youths, and students on sustainable agriculture. The harvest that have
been picked from the Urban Farm distributed to the community so that their SDG Goal #2
Zero Hunger successfully accomplished. HAVVA Agrotech Sdn. Bhd. has been HOPE

Worldwide Malaysia’s partnership in providing guidance and training to the Urban Farm
Program that indirectly strengthen the relationship with other companies to improves
productivity to their company.

Last but not least, planning will help you set the right goals, reduce future
uncertainties, achieve efficient use of human and material resources, engage employees, and
so on. Same goes for HOPE Worldwide Malaysia where they focused to plan attentively to
increase the company’s productivity. Not just that, they also get to influence people to set up
their own goals so that the human nature can manifest themselves.

Controlling involves the process of ensuring that organizational activities are aligned
with the predetermined goals. It is a crucial function that allows managers to monitor
performance, identify deviations from plans, and take corrective action when necessary. Its
main objective is to ensure that an organization’s activities are advancing as planned. The
control process that all managers have to implement consists of several steps. Each one of
these is equally important and plays a big role in effective management.

Among the control processes consist of basic elements and steps consisting of
Establishing goals and standards. The task of fixing goals and standards takes place while
planning but it plays a big role in controlling also, that’s because the primary goal of
controlling is to steer a company’s actions toward its objectives. If the people in an
organization know what they want to achieve, they’ll put all of their energy into achieving it.
When everyone is working towards the same objectives, it makes it easier for the
organization to thrive. Managers' objectives can be both tangible and intangible, as a leader, it
is essential for you to make your organization's objectives, standards and goals as clear as
possible. For example, HOPE Worldwide Malaysia set their vision is to help the urban poor
families and marginalized community through our community programs that focus on five
core areas: Health, Food, Education, Volunteerism and Corporate Shared Values.

In addition to that, Hope Worldwide Malaysia also utilizes performance measures to

define standards that allow for performance measurement using control functions.
Performance measurement refers to the process of assessing and evaluating how well an
individual, team, department, or an entire organization is performing against predetermined
goals, objectives, or standards. In the case of HOPE Malaysia, the purpose and objective of
the organization is to serve the urban poor family and the marginalized community. The
effectiveness and efficiency of the program, as well as the assistance provided to the
beneficiaries, is a benchmark for the success of HOPE Malaysia’s efforts.

To sum up, controlling is an essential management function that plays a critical role in
the overall success and efficiency of an organization. Control is the process of systematically
monitoring, evaluating, and adjusting an organization’s activities to bring them into line with
established standards and goals.

6.0 SUGGESTION AND RECOMMENDATION

I wholeheartedly recommend getting involved with HOPE Worldwide Malaysia

through volunteering. This organization stands at the forefront of meaningful change, striving
to improve the lives of the underprivileged across Malaysia. If you are looking for a way to
make a difference in the lives of those less fortunate, I strongly encourage you to volunteer
with HOPE worldwide Malaysia. They are committed to helping those in need through their
various projects in the healthcare, education, and community development fields. Your time
and skills can make a real difference and give hope to those who are in need.

In addition to direct involvement, another way you can make a difference is by

participating in HOPE Worldwide Malaysia’s advocacy efforts. I encourage you to spread the
