2. With ray diagram define critical angle. Obtain the relationship between RI 5

separated by a distance of 15 em.

4. Write the statement of the Fermat's Principle. Establish the laws of 2+3
refraction from the Principle.

aperture of a spherical surface. Deduce the spherical surface equation

(c) Two thin converging lenses of focal lengths 20 em and 40 em are placed 5
coaxially 20 em apart. An object is located at a distance of 48 em from the
first lens. Find (i) the position of the image (ii) the positions of the principal
points and (iii) the positions of the focal points. Indicate these positions in a
diagram.

1l.(a) Obtain spherical surface equation cancave towards the rarer medium. 7
(b) A small filament is at the center of a hollow glass sphere of inner and outer 5
radii 8 em and 9 ern respectively. The RI of glass is 1.5. Calculate the
position of the image of the filament when viewed from outside the sphere.
