Instruction: Identify the center and radius of the circle with the given equation in each item. Sketch its graph
and indicate the center.
1. 𝑥 2 + 𝑦 2 = 49 2. 2𝑥 2 + 2𝑦 2 − 14𝑥 + 18𝑦 = 7

Instruction: Find the standard equation of the circle which satisfies the given conditions:

1. Center at the origin, radius 2√2 2. Center at (15, −20), radius 9

3. Center at (5, 6), through (9, 4) 4. Center at (−2, 3), tangent to the 𝑥-axis

5. Concentric with 𝑥 2 + 𝑦 2 + 2𝑥 − 4𝑦 = 5, 6. Center at (−3, 2), tangent to the line 𝑦 = 8

radius is 7
(concentric means two circles have the same center)

Instruction: Answer the following word problems involving circles. Provide your solution in the space provided.
Use a separate sheet if necessary.
1. A single-lane street 10 𝑓𝑡 wide goes through a semicircular tunnel with radius 9 𝑓𝑡. How high is the tunnel
at the edge of each lane? Round off to 2 decimal places.

2. An archeologist found the remains of an ancient wheel, which she then placed on a grid. If an arc of the
wheel passes through 𝐴(7, 0), 𝐵(3, 4) and 𝐶(7, 0), locate the center of the wheel, and the standard equation
of the circle defining its boundary.

3. A seismological station is located at (0, 3), 3 km away from a straight shoreline where the 𝑥-axis runs
through. The epicenter of an earthquake was determined to be 6 km away from the station. Find the equation
of the curve that contains the possible location of the epicenter.
