26. Assuming that the mass ’M’ of the largest stone that can be moved by a (3)
flowing river depends upon ‘v’ the velocity, ’ρ’ the density of water and on
‘g’ the acceleration due to gravity. Show that M varies with the sixth power
of
velocity of flow.

27. From a circular disc of radius R and mass 9M, a small disc of radius R/3 is (3)
removed from the disc. Find the moment of inertia of the remaining disc
about an axis perpendicular to the plane of the disc and passing through the

its original volume, mass remaining unchanged. (M.I. of earth = 2/5 MR2) ?
28. Find a vector whose length is 7 and which is perpendicular to each of the (3)

29. A mass of 200 kg rests on a rough inclined plane of angle 300. If the
coefficient of limiting friction is 1/√3 find the greatest and the least forces in (3)

Three blocks are connected as shown below and are on a horizontal
frictionless table. They are pulled to right with a force F = 50 N. If m1 = 5 kg,

31. A child stands at the centre of a turntable with his arms outstretched. The turntable is

child if he folds his hands back and thereby reduces his moment of inertia to 2/5 times
the initial value? Assume that the turntable rotates without friction, (b) Show that the
child’s new kinetic energy of rotation is more than the initial kinetic energy of rotation.
How do you account of this increase in kinetic energy?

32. A body is projected with some initial velocity making an angle θ with the (5)
horizontal. Show that its path is a parabola. Find the expressions for
maximum height , horizontal range and hence show that maximum
horizontal range is four times the maximum height.
OR
State and prove parallelogram law of vector addition. Discuss some special
cases.
33. What is the need for the banking of circular roads/tracks? Describe the motion (5)
of a car on a banked road.
OR
(a) State and prove impulse-momentum Theorem.
(b) Prove that Newton’s Second law is the real law of motion.

SECTION – E
34 The centre of mass of a body or a system of bodies is the point which (4)
moves as though all of the mass were concentrated there and all external
forces were applied to it. Hence, a point at which the entire mass of the
body or system of bodies is supposed to be concentrated is known as the
centre of mass.
If a system consists of more than one particle (or bodies) and net external
force on the system in a particular direction is zero with centre of mass at
rest. Then, the centre of mass will not move along that direction. Even
though some particles of the system may move along that direction?
(i) Do centre of mass and centre of gravity always coincide?

(ii) Two balls of same masses start moving towards each other due to
gravitational attraction, if the initial distance between them is L. Then,
they meet at

(iii)Two bodies of masses 1 kg and 2 kg are lying in xy-plane at (-1, 2)
and (2, 4), respectively. What are the coordinates of the centre of mass?

35 A particle moves in positive x-direction according to law X (t) = 12t -t 2 m. (4)
