What I Need to Know

This module provides you different activities that will assist you in encouraging
the learners to use personal pronouns in sentences.
Please help the learners in sharing their ideas and knowledge from their
experiences so that there will be collaboration and learning will be easy.
Answers are written at the back of this module. Inculcate to the learners the
value of honesty while answering this module.

At the end of this module, you are expected to:

1. Identify personal pronouns that agrees with its antecedents; and


2. use personal pronouns in sentences.

What I Know

Look at each picture and read the sentence below it. Change the underlined
word into a pronoun, then blacken the circle of the sentence that corresponds to your
answer. Write your answers in your answer sheet.

Lesson

3 Using Personal Pronouns in Sentences

Using personal pronouns helps us to create a better sentence structures. In a


paragraph, personal pronouns are used to limit or to avoid repeating the use of
nouns. They help make our sentences clearer, easy to understand, and
smoother, too

personal pronouns.

3. Personal pronouns may be used as the subject of the verb or the object of a verb.

Discussion of Activity 1

Pronoun Antecedent Agreement

A Pronoun is a word that replaces a noun. The pronoun usually references


something that has already been mentioned (antecedent).

An Antecedent is the word a pronoun replaces.

Pronouns and antecedents need to agree in gender and in number-

Note that the second sentence shows the use of pronouns that agrees with its
gender. The pronouns were used as subjects.

Friends refer to more than one friend, therefore the antecedent is plural and
can be both masculine and feminine.
Friend refers to one friend, therefore the antecedent is singular and could be
masculine or feminine.
We use the pronoun it to replace the name of an animal or object.
I is a pronoun used for singular antecedent while We, Us and They are used
for plural antecedent.
