One day, a poor farmer heard cries for help from a swampy pit while he was working on his
farm. He went to find out where the cries came from. Soon, he found a frightened boy in the
sinking mud which was up to his waist. Farmer Fleming quickly pulled him up and took him
home to give him a bath. After that, the boy went home.
The next day, a well-dressed gentleman came in a beautiful carriage to visit the farmer. He told
the farmer that he was the father of the boy whom he had saved the other day.
‘I want to repay you for saving my son’s life,’ said the gentleman.
‘No, I can’t accept your payment. Anybody could have done what I did,’ said the farmer.
Just then, the farmer’s son came out from the house.
‘Is that your son?’ asked the gentleman.
‘Yes,’ the farmer replied.
‘Let me take him with me and I’ll give him a good education. I will make him a man that you’ll

My mum inspired me to learn classical music. I’ve developed a growing passion for it over the years
and decided to pursue it as my career. My piano idol is Frederic Chopin, a Polish composer. He gave
me the full emotional range of what a piano can express. I usually practise the piano after school on
weekdays for an hour, but I sometimes take a few days off.
Patrick
I was 10 when I started playing the violin. My parents are classical musicians, so they encouraged me
to play the violin when I was five. I have to attend violin lessons every day. I don’t really interested
in playing the violin because I think it’s boring. I just want to play football and go cycling with my
friends at the park.
Jamilah
I wanted to learn to play a musical instrument when I was seven. When I saw the school orchestra
playing in my school, I knew it was something I wanted to be a part of, so I joined the Music Club.
My parents took me to the shop to buy a trumpet. I picked up the trumpet, put it to my lips, and
I couldn’t make a sound.
